Andre Iguodala reveals Jordan Poole’s frustrations with the Warriors

The former Golden State Warriors champion revealed why Jordan Poole became frustrated with his role in the rotation.

Jordan Poole‘s tenure with the Golden State Warriors ended this summer following a messy year-long situation between him and Draymond Green. However, Poole also appeared to have trouble accepting his role within Golden State’s rotation last season and often appeared to be going off script.

During a recent appearance on JJ Redick’s “Old Man and the Three” podcast, four-time Warriors champion Andre Iguodala discussed Poole’s frustrations and why his role within Golden State’s rotation was a hindrance to the young guard. Iguodala also shared how he tried to give Poole some advice throughout their time together.

“It was a hindrance to Jordan Poole. Jordan was like, ‘Why can’t I go out and be free like them?’  Yeah, he doesn’t have four rings; he has one. But he won us a game in the finals. He did do that; he won us game five. And so he’s coming back like, ‘no, I’ve shown y’all that, give me some freedom. And I’m on the team in scoring. So, why should I be the guy that has to dial back?’

…He’s my brother, he knows this, I love him to death…It looked like it could have been a rebel in there. Like, nah man, I’m second on the team in scoring. When we first got into the league, if you was a bucket, you got to take off on the other end.”

Poole will now continue his career with the Washington Wizards, where he projects to have more freedom on offense as he bids to prove himself as a building block for the future.

Andre Iguodala defends James Harden in ongoing saga with Sixers

Former star Andre Iguodala believes the Philadelphia 76ers should be fined as well in the James Harden saga.

The James Harden-Philadelphia 76ers saga has been one that has taken the stage front and center in the 2023 offseason. The future Hall of Famer opted into his $35.6 million player option for the 2023-24 season looking to help facilitate a trade, not to remain with the team.

Harden has his eyes set on the Los Angeles Clippers, but the Sixers are not going to just trade him just to trade him. They have to do what’s best for them and get the most value in return for a guy who is still impactful out on the floor.

Harden then caused waves when he called out President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey as a “liar” and he said so twice. The NBA fined Harden $100,000 for the comments.

Former Sixers star Andre Iguodala hopped on “The Old Man and the Three” with former Sixers guard JJ Redick and he believes the Sixers should have been fined as well:

Teams should be fined as well when that player is fined. So when James goes and make these comments, and James is fined, we all know they changed the rules on when you can start negotiating with players before free agency because everybody had their deal done before free agency. We all know that James was told ‘You’re going to get this deal.’ Hush hush under the table. I wasn’t there. I don’t know what happened. I didn’t—James didn’t tell me this…but it’s always an assumption. The team can say it was an assumption. What did James do wrong to get fined? He said I was lied to. If I lie to you, I’m a liar in that moment. I may not be a liar, but I was a liar within that five seconds. So yes, James Harden made a true statement. So why would he get fined? I would prefer the team should be fined $5 million because come on now. Like yeah, we can’t prove it, but that happened. Like that happened and that’s where that’s where I get upset.

Obviously, nobody knows what Harden was promised or not promised. He’s obviously upset about what has transpired between him and Morey, but the Sixers still have to do what’s best for the organization. They would like to move The Beard, but they also have to make sure it’s for the right deal.

At the end of the day, the Sixers would like to keep Harden around. The duo of himself and Joel Embiid is one of the top in the league and the organization would welcome him back with open arms if he were to change his mind.

Warriors champion defends James Harden’s comments on Daryl Morey

The four-time Golden State Warriors champion doesn’t believe James Harden has done anything wrong.

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8170″]

Throughout the offseason, James Harden‘s future has been one of the biggest storylines in the NBA. The 2018 MVP handed in a trade request to the Philadelphia 76ers and recently accused Daryl Morey of being a liar in a viral video.

In a recent “Gil’s Arena” episode with Gilbert Arenas, four-time Golden State Warriors champion Andre Iguodala noted he doesn’t believe Harden has done anything wrong. Furthermore, Iguodala noted Harden’s decision to make the claim about Morey while in China was a calculated move.

“What is James’ safety net?” Iguodala said. “Daryl Morey has a history with China, where he can say something, and the backlash from what he says, it may not be any, because there is a history there with Morey and China. So, it was a great move out of leverage by James. … One, because it’s gonna be hard to discipline James, because what did he do wrong? And James will sell some shoes. That’s ultimately why he’s over there.”

Iguodala also went on to question why NBA GMs receive more protection and support than players do.

“They always put players in a certain light,” Iguodala said. “Because when we make mistakes, it’s usually against us. But when they make mistakes, we’ve never put ourselves in the position to use their mistakes against them as well. And I just think he had a perfect opportunity to repeat himself.”

Andre Iguodala heaps praise onto championship winning teammate

Andre Iguodala discussed why Draymond Green is so valuable to the Golden State Warriors.

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8170″]

Draymond Green isn’t the first name that comes to mind when you mention the Golden State Warriors. Playing alongside Steph Curry and Klay Thompson has ensured Green is often overlooked as a significant part of the Warriors’ championship roster construction. Yet, Green’s defense and ability to read the game have been integral to the franchise’s success over the past decade.

When speaking to Gilbert Arenas, as part of his appearance on the “Gils Arena” podcast, Andre Iguodala praised Green’s impact on the Warriors. Iguodala noted how Green’s desire and ability to figure out a way to win has been incredibly important to his team over the years.

“I don’t care what you say about him,” Iguodala said. “This dude will figure out a way to win at whatever he’s doing. I’ve seen him compete in so many things. … It may not show up on the stat sheet. It may not show up in a form, but he just figures out a way to win. And for him to be 6’5” and a half, to play the position he plays, and be able to get a triple-double without scoring two points — crazy stuff like that — you’ve gotta respect it. It’s very valuable. There’s leadership qualities to those type of guys, moreso than the guys with all the skills. We’re following Steph, but Draymond is going to take us to (a different) place.”

Green has evolved into the ultimate glue guy for the Warriors. A brilliant defensive IQ and exceptional ability to read the game have allowed Green to remain integral to a team that has consistently been among the best in league history.

Golden State clearly values what Green brings to the table, which is why it  recently signed him to a four-year $100 million extension. With Green committed to the Warriors for the remainder of his career, it will be interesting to see if he can help lead his team to a fifth, and possibly sixth, championship banner.

Andre Iguodala defends Jordan Poole’s final season with Warriors

Andre Iguodala believes Jordan Poole is getting too much blame for the Golden State Warriors shortcomings last season.

[anyclip pubname=”2123″ widgetname=”0016M00002U0B1kQAF_M8170″]

Since being traded by the Golden State Warriors, a lot has been said regarding Jordan Poole‘s effect on the locker room and how he performed throughout his final season with the franchise. Poole ended the 2022-23 season with averages of 20.4 points, 4.5 assists, and 2.7 rebounds, shooting 43% from the field and 33.6% from 3-point range.

According to Andre Iguodala, who was speaking on a recent episode of ‘Gil’s Arena,’ with Gilbert Arenas, Poole’s performances were not the problem last season. The four-time NBA champion also praised Poole’s ability to get to the free-throw line for his former team, noting how no other member of the roster was able to draw fouls consistently.

“He was the only one that got to the line for us consistently,” Iguodala said. “People act like he had a bad year. I’m like, a bad year? Ya’ll blame him for the year we had last year? He averaged 20.”

Poole is now starting a new chapter in his career with the Washington Wizards. After spending his first four years in the NBA learning from Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, Poole will now get the opportunity to shine in a bigger role for a rebuilding team that can give him the touches and shooting volume that he desires.

Nevertheless, there’s no denying that Poole’s presence on Golden State’s roster was a distraction. The altercation between Draymond Green and Poole ahead of last season ensured the Warriors never reached their usual level. Now, with Poole residing in the Eastern Conference, both sides have the opportunity for a fresh start and a new chance at success.

Warriors 4-time champion not expected to return

Andre Iguodala is not expected to return to the Golden State Warriors for the upcoming season.

Andre Iguodala was a vital piece in the Golden State Warriors’ championship puzzle during his seven-year tenure with the franchise. After winning three championships in six years, Iguodala moved to the Miami Heat, where he spent two seasons, before playing one final year with the Warriors in the 2021-22 season, in which he won his fourth championship.

Since then, Iguodala has been out of the NBA. However, Golden State has maintained the door is open for their championship-winning veteran, should he choose to return. Yet, it would appear that stance has softened over the summer. As part of an exclusive interview with NBC Sports Bay Area on the “Dubs Talk” podcast, Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy cast doubt on Iguodala re-joining the team for another shot at a championship.

“My sense is Andre’s probably got some other stuff going,” Dunleavy said. “But he has my number. The phone is always on. … We’ve communicated some this summer already. We’ll see. We’re not going to close the door on anything. … But my guess, and my belief, is that he won’t be back.”

Iguodala would be entering his age-39 season if he were to make a return to Golden State ahead of the new season. Furthermore, the veteran forward would likely find minutes difficult to come by at this late stage in his career.

As such, it makes sense that Iguodala remains away from the NBA, so he can focus on other business ventures, including his current podcast with former NBA forward Evan Turner.

NBA draft rewind: Sixers take Andre Iguodala with 9th pick in 2004

Back in 2004, the Philadelphia 76ers selected Andre Iguodala out of Arizona with the 9th overall pick.

The Philadelphia 76ers are without a draft pick in 2023, so it’s a good time to look back at some past draft picks the franchise has made.

Entering the 2004 NBA draft, the Sixers were coming off a disappointing 2003-04 season. Franchise legend Allen Iverson played only 48 games due to injury, and the Sixers finished 33-49. Randy Ayers was fired as coach after a 21-31 start and Chris Ford went 12-18 in the interim.

Their misfortune landed them with the 9th pick in the 2004 draft. With that selection, the Sixers landed Andre Iguodala out of Arizona. The high-flying athletic forward made an immediate impact. He averaged 9 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3 assists while starting all 82 games.

He helped the Sixes make the playoffs, where he averaged 9.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.8 steals. While Iguodala played well, the Sixers fell to the defending champion Detroit Pistons in five games in the first round.

Iguodala went on to have a successful time with the Sixers. He played eight seasons in Philadelphia, averaging 15.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.9 assists while being named an All-Star in 2012. He was sent to the Denver Nuggets before the 2012-13 season in the blockbuster Andrew Bynum deal.

Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala react to Jayson Tatum’s performance in Game 7 vs. Sixers

Following Jayson Tatum’s scoring 51-point performance in Game 7 against the Sixers, Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala took to Twitter with reactions.

After the Los Angeles Lakers put an end to the Golden State Warriors’ season with a win in Hollywood in Game 6, the NBA’s attention turned to Game 7 in the Eastern Conference between the Philadelphia 76ers and Boston Celtics.

In a win-or-go-home scenario, Jayson Tatum torched the Sixers on the way to punching the Celtics’ ticket to the Eastern Conference Finals. Tatum went ballistic, scoring a scorching 51 points on 17-of-28 shooting from the field with six made triples to go along with 13 boards, five assists and two steals in 42 minutes. Behind Tatum, the Celtics cruised past the Sixers, 112-88 on Mother’s Day.

Tatum’s performance took over the NBA community on Sunday with a pair of members from the Golden State Warriors taking to Twitter with reactions. Both Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala chimed in on Twitter following Tatum’s performance against the 76ers.

Warriors’ Andre Iguodala has left wrist fracture, to undergo surgery

Golden State Warriors veteran Andre Iguodala has a left wrist fracture and he will undergo surgery.

The Golden State Warriors received some tough news on Wednesday when they found out that they would be without yet another piece on their roster.

While they await the return of Andrew Wiggins who is still out due to personal reasons, the Warriors found out that veteran Andre Iguodala now has a left wrist fracture and he will undergo surgery in the coming weeks.

Iguodala has only played eight games in what is expected to be his final season in the NBA and he’s averaging only 2.1 points and 2.4 rebounds in14.1 minutes per night, but considering how short-handed Golden State is at the moment, this is bad timing for the Dubs as they need bodies at the moment.

While the Warriors continue to wait for Wiggins to return, they now brace for Iguodala to be out for an extended period of time. Luckily, Stephen Curry is back from his injury and he and Klay Thompson are more than capable of carrying the team.
