Browns Injury Report: Denzel Ward returns to practice, Dawand Jones remains out Wednesday

The Browns get set to take on the Steelers shorthanded at QB and at RT with Dawand Jones. However, Denzel Ward returned to practice.

The Cleveland Browns got some devastating injury news on Wednesday, as it was announced that quarterback Deshaun Watson will miss the rest of the season with a broken shoulder. That is not the only concern with the Steelers on deck as right tackle Dawand Jones remains sidelined. On a bright note, however, cornerback Denzel Ward was a limited participant in practice as the Browns get set to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers despite leaving the game against the Baltimore Ravens.

Ward is not the only player to show up on the injury list, however, as there is a laundry list from Wednesday’s practice. A handful of players were resting on the first day of practice this week, so a bit of sifting through the names has to be done.

Here is the long list of players who did not practice or practiced on a limited basis as the Browns look to advance to 7-3 on the season against the Steelers on Sunday with an opportunity to take hold of the top spot in the AFC North.

Browns Studs and Duds: 5 players who balled out in Ravens upset win

Cleveland Browns players Deshaun Watson, Amari Cooper, Greg Newsome II, Myles Garrett, and Jerome Ford shine in Browns’ upset victory over the Baltimore Ravens.

The Cleveland Browns’ thrilling last-second victory over the Baltimore Ravens has silenced the national media. The party hasn’t stopped in Cleveland as the Browns took the inside lane on winning the division. In Studs and Duds, we’re happy to shine a light on the five stars that delivered the Browns to victory.

There are no duds this week as every candidate redeemed their misfires later in the game. At the halfway mark, the Browns have at least proved they’re a mentally tough team that will gladly battle through adversity when other teams would quit.

The Browns had a tough start to the game, losing 17-3 by the end of the first quarter. The team methodically chipped away at the Ravens’ lead, bringing the Ravens within 8 points at halftime. After the Ravens scored on a 40-yard pass to Odell Beckham Jr., the defense locked the Ravens down.

The Ravens were only able to score off a muffed punt and multiple penalties that prolonged a red zone drive. Meanwhile, the Browns’ offense started to find its groove as they rolled for three more scores, including the 4-minute and 55-second drive that ended with a 40-yard game-winning field goal.

The Cleveland Browns showed a lot of heart and resilience in Baltimore on Sunday. It took a complete team effort to win in Baltimore. Here are the five studs who stood out the most.

PFF’s 10 highest-graded Browns’ offensive players vs. Ravens

Things seem to be starting to click for this offense

It was a terrible start for the offense of the Cleveland Browns this week with the pick-six on the first series as well as struggles to finish drives with touchdowns in the first half. But as the game went on, especially in the second half quarterback Deshaun Watson and the passing offense started to click thanks to some help from Amari Cooper. Running back Jerome Ford also had his best game as the starter.

This was the first time that it felt like the offense could go and get points when they needed them with the game on the line. The offensive line was without their top three offensive tackles and yet had one of their best games overall, especially in the run game.

Hats off to Ford in this game it was by far his best as a pro, he displayed good vision, patience, and decisiveness as a runner. It gives you a lot of hope for what this team can be if the offense continues to improve.

Here are the top 10 performances from this week according to PFF.

Ravens defense looked fatigued in Browns’ 33-31 comeback win

The Baltimore Ravens defense spent 75 total plays on the field in Week 10, a strong indicator of potential fatigue.

A deeper analysis of the Cleveland Browns’ comeback win over the Baltimore Ravens in Week 10 may point to time of possession being a key factor. The Ravens defense spent 75 total plays on the field, a strong indicator of potential fatigue.

Coordinator Mike MacDonald’s unit held the Browns offense to just nine first-half points yet had less luck stopping quarterback Deshaun Watson in the second half.

Quarterback Lamar Jackson struggled passing the ball, and the Ravens offense was not able to sustain drives. Perhaps opting for the run could have shortened the game. Instead, the Ravens opted to go for explosive plays, losing the time of possession statistic 34:15 to 25:45.

The fatigued Ravens defense had no answer for the intermediate passing game with wide receiver Amari Cooper and scramble runs of Watson. The Browns rushed the ball on 36 of their 75 offensive plays, using physicality to tire out the Baltimore defense.

In Week 10, only four teams allowed more points than Baltimore, and only the New York Giants defense was on the field for more plays.

3 bold predictions as Browns look for revenge vs. Ravens in Week 10

Thing got ugly for Cleveland the first time they faced the Ravens, but they’re looking for revenge on the road this Sunday.

Things didn’t go great for Cleveland when Baltimore came to town in early October as they started Dorian Thompson-Robinson and lost 28-3. It was the first bad game the Browns defense had, and you could see Baltimore just wearing them out in the second half.

Now, fast forward to the second matchup and Baltimore looks like the best team in the NFL and the Browns seem to be finding themselves offensively. It is clear that the Ravens had a clear plan on how to attack the Browns’ run defense and they gashed them up and down the field. Jim Schwartz and his assistants have to find solutions and there’s no doubt players will want to redeem themselves after that nasty taste left in their mouths.

Deshaun Watson and the passing offense will need to take another step forward and show more improvement to win in Baltimore. Here are this week’s bold predictions as Cleveland is on the road in search of win number six.

Browns studs and duds: Top 5 players from win over Cardinals

The five best players from the Cleveland Browns victory over the Arizona Cardinals.

The Cleveland Browns shut down the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, dominating with a 27-0 victory. The team’s stars showed out in the shutout against the Cardinals, proving why they are among the very elite of the NFL.

Deshaun Watson looked extremely sharp in his return from the rotator cuff injury that made it nearly impossible for him to throw the ball, as demonstrated against the Colts a fortnight ago. On Sunday, Watson looked fully healthy and back to his normal self, seeking out contact. Wide receiver Amari Cooper jokingly told Watson, “Slide more” in their post-game press conference. The Browns’ defense once again regained their No. 1 ranking in most models after slipping against the Seahawks. It seemed like every defensive starter had a sack or tackle for loss as the Browns held the Cardinals to 58 yards in over 60 minutes.

Here are the five studs that advanced the Browns to victory. There are no duds in 27-point wins.

PFF’s 10 highest-graded Browns’ offensive players vs. Cardinals

The offense took a big step forward against Arizona

The Cleveland Browns got their franchise quarterback back on the field Sunday and unlike the game against the Colts, he looked healthy. It was a bit of a slow start for Deshaun Watson on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, but he looked more and more comfortable as the game went along behind Wyatt Teller and the rest of the offensive line.

He showed good poise in the pocket and he navigated it well when he was under pressure. It looked like he was processing the defense at a solid level and wasn’t afraid to check it down for cheap yards. Using the threat of his legs to open things up underneath as well at times, it was a solid game for Watson.

Amari Cooper continues to be worth his weight in gold and remains the most consistent threat on the offense. It was a battle for the running game that had its moments but overall it was just average. Here are the top 10 players on offense according to PFF in Cleveland’s 27-0 victory.

Browns: Amari Cooper tells Deshaun Watson to ‘slide sometimes’ in sideline interview

Amari Cooper tells Deshaun Watson to slide more after the Cleveland Browns trampled over the Arizona Cardinals.

Following the Cleveland Browns 27-0 victory over the Arizona Cardinals, CBS sideline reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala caught up with Deshaun Watson and Amari Cooper. The dynamic duo connected on all five targets for 139 yards and a touchdown. The pair drew up a route on a 49-yard pass play on the spot displaying their strong bond. Kinkhabwala was able to catch their great chemistry during her interview with the two.

Cooper echoed the sentiments of all Browns fans when he told Watson to slide more to avoid the hits. Watson is a dynamic running threat who has no fear when running the ball. Much to the chagrin of fans and teammates alike who fear for Watson. Watson missed the last month of football after suffering a bruise in the rotator cuff after colliding with a tackler. Cooper knows that the Browns can beat any team in the NFL with Watson running the offense. Watson knows that too telling Kinkhabwala that he listens to Cooper.

A football off of a defender’s helmet goes in the Browns’ favor this week

The Browns now have a two score lead!

Quarterback Deshaun Watson and wide receiver Amari Cooper are in full sync. After connecting on a massive 59-yard gain in the first quarter, the two link up again for a touchdown. Last week, a throw off of a defender’s helmet did not go in the favor of the Cleveland Browns. This week it did against the Arizona Cardinals.

This drive came off the heels of a Denzel Ward interception that flipped the field. The Browns then managed to run the football all the way down the field on the back of veteran Kareem Hunt. The Browns now sit with a 10-0 lead over the 1-7 Cardinals.

It has been up-and-down for Watson thus far in his return to the field after dealing with a shoulder injury. However, the Browns have not turned the ball over, and with this defense, they are a hard team to beat if they do not beat themselves.

Can they get to 5-3?

WATCH: Deshaun Watson connects with Amari Cooper for big 59-yard gain vs. Cardinals

The big gain gets the Browns into striking distance!

The Cleveland Browns got their offense cooking on their third drive after quarterback Deshaun Watson was able to connect with Amari Cooper for a massive 59-yard gain. The Arizona Cardinals had kept everything in front of them until that point as Watson and the Browns were unable to get any movement through the air. This led to a Dustin Hopkins field goal as the Browns got on the board first in this Week 9 matchup.

Cooper has been as consistent as advertised since coming to Cleveland from Dallas two summers ago. As Watson continues to look to get his footing under him after nearly six full weeks off (outside of a few drives against the Indianapolis Colts), turning to Cooper will never be a bad idea.

Through one quarter of play, Watson is sitting at 7-of-10 passing for 102 yards. Over half of that came on this play alone. Cooper has already racked up 62 yards on two catches thus far.
