Browns: Amari Cooper breaks Josh Gordon’s single-game receiving record vs. Texans

There is a new man at the top of the single-game receiving record for the Browns after the historic day from Amari Cooper

The Cleveland Browns had a great Christmas Eve victory over the Houston Texans to get their tenth win of the year. And they did it largely behind the blazing-hot connection between quarterback Joe Flacco and wide receiver Amari Cooper. And because of that connection, the Browns have a new single-game receiving record as Cooper breaks the decade-long mark held by Josh Gordon.

Cooper finished the game with a massive 265 yards receiving and two touchdowns on 11 catches. In this game as well, Cooper also became the first Browns’ receiver to rack up back-to-back 1,000-yard receiving seasons in franchise history.

While there has been speculation that Cooper’s $20 million cap hit next year may price him off of the roster, the veteran receiver has made it abundantly clear: he is not simply replaceable.

Congrats to Cooper as he will now forever have his name in Cleveland record books and may go down as the best wide receiver to ever wear the brown and orange.

4 Downs: Browns have themselves a very Merry Christmas vs. Texans

The Browns pick up their tenth win of the season against the Texans, led by a Christmas gift from Joe Flacco and Amari Cooper

Believe it or not, the Cleveland Browns have now won their tenth game of the season with a rout of the Houston Texans. Minus a couple of garbage-time touchdowns that pulled the score closer to 36-22, the Browns, led by quarterback Joe Flacco and wide receiver Amari Cooper, had themselves a very Merry Christmas Eve on the road.

With the win, the Browns sit at 10-5 and have a firm grip on the fifth seed and top wildcard spot in the AFC. While they cannot officially clinch their playoff berth this week, they will have the opportunity to do so in front of their home crowd at Cleveland Browns Stadium on Thursday night against the New York Jets.

We are not looking ahead to that matchup just yet, however, as there is plenty to celebrate and discuss from this Week 16 beatdown of Case Keenum and the Texans. In this joyous 4 Downs filled with holiday spirit, here is what stood out the most from this dominant Cleveland win over Houston.

Amari Cooper joins Terrell Owens in elite receiver company

A 200-yard receiving game for his third franchise made Amari Cooper’s holiday

Amari Cooper had himself a day for the Cleveland Browns against the Houston Texans on Christmas Eve.

The wide receiver had 10 receptions for 252 yards and a pair of TDs with the bulk of the fourth quarter left.

The Browns led 28-7 and were on the verge of their 10th victory.

Cooper has reached the 200-yard mark for three teams, the Raiders, Cowboys, and Browns.

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas: Browns’ Joe Flacco and Amari Cooper cannot be stopped vs. Texans

Connecting for their second score of the game for the Browns, the Texans have no answer for Joe Flacco or Amari Cooper

The Houston Texans have had enough of quarterback Joe Flacco and wide receiver Amari Cooper. As the Cleveland Browns are on their way to their tenth win and a playoff berth, Flacco and Cooper connect for their second touchdown of the day as they continue to torture this Houston defense.

Without a kicker, however, the Browns were forced to go for the two-point conversion and failed.

Now up 28-7 on the day, Flacco has eclipsed 300 yards passing in three straight games. He now sits with 317 yards and three touchdowns in the third quarter of this game against the Texans.

Cooper has had himself a very Merry Christmas as well, becoming the first Browns receiver in franchise history to rack up back-to-back 1,000-yard receiving seasons. Having a career day, Cooper is already up to an eye-popping 220 yards and two touchdowns on eight catches on this Christmas Eve.

Merry Christmas, Amari! Cooper becomes first Browns receiver with back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons

The Browns have never seen a receiver with back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons until Amari Cooper eclipsed that mark

We have a new franchise mark hit today for the Cleveland Browns. Wide receiver Amari Cooper has become the first wide receiver in franchise history to hit 1,000 yards receiving in back-to-back seasons. This happened on the first play of the game as quarterback Joe Flacco found him for 53 yards.

After racking up 1,160 yards receiving and nine touchdowns a year ago, Cooper entered the game with 985 yards on the year. Last year was a career year for Cooper, his first in a Cleveland uniform, and it looks like he is going to set another new mark this year for the brown and orange.

While it seems quite unbelievable, the Browns have never had the consistent play at quarterback or wide receiver in the modern days of football to see this mark hit. With three catches, 150 yards, and a touchdown on the day, Cooper could just be getting started against the Houston Texans.

And to think, the Browns got Cooper for just the cost of a fifth round pick.

Browns, Texans trade huge scoring plays

The Browns and Texans traded big-play touchdowns in 13 seconds

Big plays were on tap in the game between the Cleveland Browns and Houston Texans on Sunday.

The Browns started the game with a long pass from Joe Flacco to Amari Cooper.

The pair connected again for a 75-yard TD pass that gave Cleveland a 14-0 lead.

It didn’t last long as Dameon Pierce took the ensuing kickoff and retuned it 98 yards for a score.

That made for 173 yards of action in consecutive plays as the Browns led, 14-7, in the second quarter.

You better watch out: Browns up two scores as Joe Flacco finds Amari Cooper again vs. Texans

Joe Flacco is coming to town

The Cleveland Browns are once again finding success through the air. And it has mostly to do with the elite connection between quarterback Joe Flacco and wide receiver Amari Cooper today. Connecting on a huge bomb on the first play of the game, the two have now connected for a massive 75-yard touchdown.

On the day, Cooper now has 150 yards and a touchdown on just three catches. Flacco now sits at 7-of-10 passing for 165 yards and a touchdown through the air with 11 minutes left in the first half.

The Browns since, however, have given up a kickoff return touchdown to running back Dameon Pierce. The game now sits at 14-7 despite a brief two-score lead. They will need Flacco and Cooper to continue to connect in this one as their run game has not been good in this one.

Can the Browns close this one out and make it three in a row?

Christmas lights ignite: Joe Flacco finds Amari Cooper deep on first play of Browns vs. Texans

The Browns strike quickly as Joe Flacco and Amari Cooper connect for a deep bomb on the first play of the game vs. the Texans

Quarterback Joe Flacco took no time at all to pick up where he left off last week against the Chicago Bears. As the Cleveland Browns look to put themselves in prime position to make the playoffs, Flacco connected with wide receiver Amari Cooper for a deep shot of 53 yards on the first play of the game against the Houston Texans.

The Christmas lights are already ignited in Houston.

On a run-action look, guard Wyatt Teller pulled to draw the eyes of the Houston defenders in, and Flacco was able to find Cooper over the top of the secondary for a massive start. This was off of the heels of a great kickoff return from running back Pierre Strong Jr. as well that put the Browns in a great field position.

The Browns then went on to score on a Jerome Ford touchdown run. They have taken an early 7-0 lead over the Texans on the road.

PFF’s 10 highest-graded Browns’ offensive players vs. Bears

It was a slow day for the Browns against the Bears offensively, until the fourth quarter explosion led by David Njoku and Amari Cooper

For a majority of the game, the Cleveland Browns struggled to find any consistency on offense, especially with the run game being non-existent. However, led by tight end David Njoku and wide receiver Amari Cooper, they exploded late.

They continued to battle until the fourth corner when Joe Flacco and the passing offense came alive. The key turning point was likely the bomb to Marquise Goodwin that hit him in stride, that play was the exact reason Goodwin was signed in the first place.

Flacco gave fans a performance to remember throwing for over 200 yards in the final quarter to guarantee the Browns their second winning season in four years under Kevin Stefanski. It is clear that no matter how many players are injured Stefanski has his team prepared and fighting until the last second.

The team needs to figure out a way to take care of the ball better because turnovers were the only reason the Bears were leading in the first place. Here are the top 10 performances on offense Sunday according to PFF.

Browns: Amari Cooper and David Njoku make history vs. Bears

A big day for the Browns passing attack after fourth quarter explosion

The second coming of the Kardiac Kids found a way to get it done yet again against the Chicago Bears in front of their home crowd. The Cleveland Browns got their fifth fourth-quarter comeback of the 2023 season to get the team’s ninth win. Joe Flacco struggled for most of the game before he turned it on in the fourth quarter. However, he could not have done it without tight end David Njoku and wide receiver Amari Cooper.

Flacco threw for over 200 yards in the final quarter where he made as good of a throw as I have seen in Cleveland in my life on the 51-yard touchdown to Cooper. Despite their struggles on offense, they rose to the challenge again with the game on the line late in the final quarter.

On the final two drives, both David Njoku and Amari Cooper went over 100 receiving yards being the first duo in Cleveland since Josh Gordon and Jordan Cameron who did it in 2013. The Browns are in complete control of the Wild Card race in the AFC right now with just three games to go.
