Kentucky softball’s Ally Hutchins drives in the game winning run as the Wildcats beat Michigan.

The 2024 Kentucky softball season didn’t go exactly as planned, as the Cats ended on a tough note. However, they did make the NCAA Tournament field and on Thursday, met the Michigan Wolverines in the first round.

Michigan scored first, but Kentucky took the lead in the fourth on a Grace Lorsung homerun. A Wolverines homer gave them the lead back, but the Wildcats answered again, tying it in the fifth.

The game would come down to the final inning. In the seventh, Ally Hutchins would come up huge, singling to right field to drive in the game winner, as the Wildcats win 4 – 3.

The win was a team effort. No Kentucky batter had more than one hit, or more than one RBI. Hutchins was the hero, but contributions came from everywhere, including on the mound. Stephanie Schoonover pitched a complete game, giving up just two earned runs.

Kentucky’s next game will be on Saturday at 1:00 PM. They’ll play either Oklahoma St or Northern Colorado.
