Chris Paul’s 7 best steals in a Thunder uniform

Chris Paul has proven he’s one of the best pickpockets the NBA has ever seen — further cementing that in the Thunder’s win on Sunday.

Last season, while he was still with the Houston Rockets, Chris Paul worked his way into the top-10 NBA All-Time Steal Leaders, bumping out Karl Malone (2,085). He also surpassed Alvin Robertson (2,112) to enter the 2019-20 season as No. 9 all-time.

In his first year with the Thunder, Paul has surpassed Hakeem Olajuwon (2,162) and, most recently, Clyde Drexler (2,207) on the list. He is now seventh all-time in steals.

Scottie Pippen (2,307) is Paul’s next target, but he that’ll have to wait until 2020-21. (With 25 games left in 2019-20 and Paul needing 100 steals to pass Pippen, he would need to average four steals a night for the rest of the season to move into sixth place all-time by the end of 2019-20.)

Given he’s now seventh all-time on the NBA Steal Leaders list, it only seemed fitting to look at the seven best steals he’s had since he joined the Thunder:

7. Back on December 18, Paul had two steals in OKC’s 126-122 with over the Memphis Grizzlies — one of his 25 multi-steal performances of the season.

He best steal came late in the fourth. This one was a display of Paul’s ability to clog the passing lanes, even when it may seem like he’s lost sight of his man.

Chris Paul moves into 7th on All-Time steals list

Paul recorded his 2,208th career steal on Sunday against the Spurs, moving him past Clyde Drexler, up to No. 7 on the all-time steals list.

Chris Paul’s box score from the Thunder’s victory over the San Antonio Spurs shows only one steal. But that one was one for the record books.

Paul moved into seventh place on the NBA’s all-time steals list on Sunday night, surpassing Clyde Drexler.

The historic moment came late in the second quarter of Oklahoma City’s 131-103 beat down of the San Antonio Spurs. It happened when Paul swiped the ball away from DeMar DeRozan with 1:28 remaining in the half.

The 2,208th career steal puts Paul within 100 steals of No. 6 on the list, former Chicago Bulls great, Scottie Pippen.

He is still 1,057 steals behind John Stockton, who holds the career record of 3,265, although Paul does top the steals list for all active players.

He came into Sunday averaging 1.5 steals a game, the lowest average of his career.

The six-time steals champion led the league in back-to-back seasons in 2007-08 and 2008-09 when he averaged 2.7 and 2.8 steals per game, respectively.

He then led the league in steals for four straight seasons between 2010 and 2014.

For his career, Paul is averaging 2.2 steals per game.
