Oregon shortstop Maddox Molony named to First Team All-Pac-12

Oregon shortstop Maddox Molony becomes just the second Duck freshman to be named as a First Team All-Pac-12 player.

For the last time, the Pac-12 has announced its regular season awards and Oregon shortstop Maddox Molony leads a group of Ducks to be honored.

Molony becomes the second Duck freshman to be named to the All-Pac-12 First Team, following Kenyon Yovan in 2017. Molony has set a program record for most home runs by a freshman (10) while leading the team in hitting with a .368 batting average. He also has 12 multiple-hit and nine multiple-RBI games in his 32 starts.

Also honored by the conference to the All-Defensive Team was center fielder Bryce Boettcher and first baseman Jacob Walsh.

Boettcher was also named honorable mention all-league. The two-sport athlete leads Oregon in stolen bases (12), runs scored (42) and outfield assists (6) while batting .290 with 11 home runs, 33 runs batted in and seven doubles.

Walsh is Oregon’s leader in both home runs (17) and RBI (55), while batting .281 with 13 doubles and 37 runs scored. Already the program’s career home run leader with 39, he needs just one home run at the Pac-12 Tournament to tie the single-season home run record set last season by Sabin Ceballos.

Oregon had several other players named as an honorable mention such as starting pitcher RJ Gordon, starter Grayson Grinsell, catcher Chase Meggers, closer Logan Mercado, reliever Bradley Mullan and outfielder Mason Neville.

Oregon State’s Travis Bazzana was the Player of the Year and Arizona’s Chip Hale was the Coach of the Year.

Athlon Sports has 15 Ducks on their preseason All-Pac-12 squad

Athlon Sports have put out their all-conference teams for 2023 and a total of 15 Ducks have made the list.

The premier college sports magazine, Athlon Sports, have published their all-conference teams around the country and for the Pac-12, a total of 15 Ducks have made the list.

But it’s the quality of player that is on the Third and Fourth Teams shows how good and deep the Pac-12 will be in 2023. When you have a possible Heisman Trophy candidate in Bo Nix being relegated to the Third Team, this conference has to be one of the best and most competitive in the sport.

Two Ducks have made the First Team and three more on the Second Team. Kicker Camden Lewis gets some recognition he sorely deserves and transfer defensive lineman Jordan Burch is bound to have a big year in Eugene.

Three new offensive linemen were listed, but somehow transfer linebacker Jestin Jacobs wasn’t on the list for some reason. Here are the 15 Ducks that were listed on the various teams.

Seven Ducks receive all-conference baseball honors

Seven Oregon baseball players were honored by the Pac-12 Tuesday morning right before the postseason gets going.

On the day the Pac-12 baseball tournament begins, the conference announced their all-league selections and seven Oregon players were so honored.

Duck third baseman Sabin Ceballos, shortstop Drew Cowley and starting pitcher Jace Stoffal were on the all-conference team with centerfielder Colby Shade was named to the all-defensive squad.

Ceballos, a junior college transfer from Houston, sparkled in 2023 by hitting .349 with 13 home runs and 54 runs batted in.

Cowley led the Ducks with 15 homers and 60 RBIs while hitting .340. He also led the team with 70 hits, 19 doubles, 54 runs scored and two triples.

Stoffal was the ace pitcher for much of the season before suffering an injury. He finished the regular season with a 6-2 record and a 2.82 earned run average. Oregon hopes to have Stoffal’s services back for the postseason.

Closer Josh Mollerus, right fielder Rikuu Nishida, left fielder Tanner Smith and Shade were honorable mentions.

Stanford cleaned up on the awards as Albert Rios was the Player of the Year, Quinn Mathews was the Pitcher of the Year, Malcolm Moore the Freshman of the Year and finally David Esquer was the Coach of the Year.

The postseason begins today with the Pac-12 tournament starting in Scottsdale, Ariz. Oregon opens up pool play with California at 7 pm. The Ducks will then face conference champ Stanford on Thursday.
