Twitter reacts to Auburn landing Alex McPherson

Auburn landed its next kicker … and the last name isn’t Carlson.

Alex McPherson sealed the future of the kicker position for Auburn football Tuesday night after he announced via social media that he will be joining Bryan Harsin’s program.

The Auburn fanbase was excited by the news. Anytime a school picks up the number one player in a recruiting class it becomes a big deal. The Tigers have been able to rely on solid kicking for years, specifically, Auburn has been able to rely on a kicker with the last name Carlson. Both Daniel and Anders Carlson have been a constant on Auburn’s special teams since Daniel took the field in 2014. McPherson, the Fort Payne (Ala.) standout is ready to take the reigns on The Plains.

Twitter was buzzing in response to McPherson’s announcement.

Auburn football lands nation’s top placekicker

Auburn has landed another top kicker.

Alex McPherson will kick for the Auburn Tigers.

The nation’s top placekicker announced that he will play for Bryan Harsin’s squad on Tuesday. The Fort Payne (Ala.) phenom appears to be the next in line to join a long run of successful kickers that have played at Auburn. As the Tigers prepare for life after Anders Carlson, McPherson was a priority target in the 2022 class.

Auburn’s next kicker, McPherson, is listed at 5-feet-10, 153 pounds. His older brother, Evan McPherson was a kicker at Florida.

McPherson’s announcement comes at a good time for the Tigers as the fanbase was getting concerned over only having three commits as part of the 2022 class going into Tuesday.

McPherson grew up an Auburn fan and spent the first weekend of the contact period on an official visit last month. He was 10-16 on field goals last season.

Auburn now has four members of the 2022 class. They are quarterback Holden Geriner, cornerback Jarell Stinson, and linebacker Powell Gordon.
