Penn State football transfer portal tracker

The transfer portal is open. Stay on top of every Penn State transfer coming and going with our updated tracker.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Sure, the holiday season is in full swing, but the transfer portal for college football is officially open, and Penn State will once again look to be active in the portal activity in an attempt to bolster a couple of positions in need of improvement.

Of course, a number of players on the football roster will take this opportunity to explore some other opportunities to find a new environment that will allow them to embrace a fresh start, pursue more playing time with another program, or simply just move closer to home.

The first day of the transfer portal being open led to a couple of Penn State players entering their names in the transfer portal. And we are ready to keep track of all of the transfer portal activity this month.

The transfer portal opened on Dec. 4, 2023 and closes on Jan. 2, 2024. Here is a look at the latest developments with the portal and Penn State with a review of what players are currently in the transfer portal, who has committed elsewhere, and what players are coming to Penn State out of the portal.

Penn State transfer OL commit flips to Big Ten rival

Penn State commit from the transfer portal ends up signing with another Big Ten school in the early signing period.

It was looking like Penn State was going to land a coveted offensive lineman out of the transfer portal during the early signing period, but another Big Ten program swept in with a flip of a key commitment. [autotag]Alan Herron[/autotag], who had committed to Penn State in the transfer portal from Division 2 Shorter University, has been officially signed by Maryland.

Maryland officially announced the signing of Herron with a post on social media on Thursday afternoon, providing a bit of a surprise to those following Penn State’s transfer portal activity this offseason. Herron committed to Penn State less than two weeks ago leading up to the opening of the early signing period, but a visit to Maryland’s campus for the Georgia native proved to be a game-changer in favor of the Terrapins.

Herron is the second decommitment Penn State suffered on the offensive line in this recruiting cycle. Deryc Plazz, a three-star recruit from Jacksonville, FL, was the first and only decommitment for Penn State’s Class of 2024 before Herron’s flip. Plazz ended up staying a bit closer to home with a commitment to Miami.

Penn State adds coveted offensive line transfer

Penn State received a commitment from transfer offensive lineman Alan Herron.

Penn State received its first commitment out of the transfer portal on Monday. Offensive lineman [autotag]Alan Herron[/autotag] has reportedly committed to Penn State out of the portal, choosing the Nittany Lions over a couple of other Power 5 offers on the table.

Herron will come to Penn State from Division 2 Shorter, located in Georgia. The small-school offensive linemen received plenty of looks from Power 5 programs once he entered the transfer portal. In the end, Herron committed to Penn State over offers from Texas Tech and Clemson. Herron visited Penn State and Texas Tech before making his decision, and his planned visit to Clemson this coming weekend will no longer take place.

Penn State was among the early offers Herron received following his entry to the transfer portal. Penn State followed a few other Power 5 offers, including Maryland and Virginia Tech, and a number of FCS programs flooded his inbox with offers before his recruiting momentum grew.

Herron measures 6′-6″ and 310 lb, so he will be bringing some good size to the Penn State offensive line in 2024 immediately upon his arrival. Herron could quickly move into a key role on the offensive line, and he will have two years of eligibility remaining.

According to his profile on 247Sports, Herron is ranked as the no. 7 offensive tackle in the transfer portal this season. He is rated as a three-star transfer player.

Clemson transfer OL target commits to Penn State

One of Clemson’s top targets in the transfer portal has committed to Penn State.

Dabo Swinney and the Clemson football program have looked to be more active in the transfer portal this season, and they recently missed out on one of their top targets in the portal.

Transfer offensive tackle Alan Herron announced via social media that he has committed to play football at Penn State. The former Division II player out of Shorter University will join the Nittany Lions over schools such as Clemson, Auburn, Louisville, and more.

A miss for the Tigers, Herron was recently ranked the No.12 player in the transfer portal by ESPN. Clemson will have to look elsewhere in the portal as they attempt to bolster their offensive line.

Auburn is the latest school to offer Shorter OL transfer Alan Herron

He is the third transfer offensive lineman that Auburn has offered.

Auburn is looking for help along the offensive line and is turning to the transfer portal to address the need. The latest offer is to former Shorter University offensive tackle [autotag]Alan Herron[/autotag], who is one of the hottest names in the portal.

Since entering the portal on Nov. 16, he has already picked up over a dozen offers, including ones from Penn State, Miami and Clemson. Herron spent two seasons at Shorter and will have two seasons of eligibility at his next school.

He is ranked as the No. 30 overall player and No. 4 offensive tackle in the 247Sports transfer portal ranking.

Auburn has already offered two other transfer offensive linemen, former Southern Miss left guard Gerquan Scott and North Dakota transfer [autotag]Easton Kilty[/autotag], who has spent time at left tackle and both guard spots.
