Alabama baseball announces November scrimmage with prominent ACC program

Alabama will face one of the nation’s top programs in November.

The Alabama Crimson Tide baseball program announced an upcoming fall scrimmage with the Clemson Tigers on Thursday afternoon, which will take place Saturday, November 9.

On what is the same day the football program is in Baton Rouge to take on the LSU Tigers, the game against Clemson will begin at 12:00 p.m. CT, and will take place at Sewell-Thomas Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

A high-profile preseason showdown between two NCAA Tournament teams, Clemson was one of the ACC’s top programs a year ago, finishing the year at 44-16 overall, as well as 20-10 in conference play.

During that season, the Tigers reached the NCAA Tournament as the nation’s No. 6 overall seed where they advanced to the Super Regional round.

Alabama is coming off the first season of the Rob Vaughn era in Tuscaloosa, one in which the program finished with a 33-24 overall record. Also holding a 13-17 mark in SEC play, the Crimson Tide made the NCAA Tournament as well, falling in the Regional round.

Former Alabama baseball standout makes MLB debut

The former Alabama standout becomes the latest Crimson Tide player in the MLB.

A former standout outfielder for the Alabama Crimson Tide, Tyler Gentry has been called-up by the Kansas City Royals to make his MLB debut.

That debut came Sunday afternoon for Kansas City, where Gentry made only one at-bat for the Royals in which he did not get on base.

Selected by Kansas City in the third round of the 2020 MLB, Gentry spent a total of two seasons from the Crimson Tide from 2019-20 in which he ranked among Alabama’s top hitters both seasons. Over that span, Gentry slashed a combined .335/.420/.594 with 17 HR, 63 RBI, and nine SB across 73 games prior to being selected in the 2020 MLB draft.

The Royals No. 15 prospect according to MLB, Gentry has spent each of the last two seasons in Triple-A of the Kansas City organization, which includes 105 games this year. Across those 105 games, the outfielder has slashed .256/.346/.429 with 13 HR, 54 RBI, and five SB.

Gentry now joins Texas Rangers right-handed pitcher David Robertson as the lone former Alabama baseball players who are currently playing the MLB.

Alabama baseball’s season comes to an end with shutout loss to Stetson

The 2024 baseball season has come to a close for the Alabama Crimson Tide after losing 4-0 to Stetson.

In the Tallahassee Regional, the Alabama Crimson Tide lost two consecutive games, ending the team’s 2024 season. In head coach Rob Vaughn’s first season at the helm of the Alabama baseball program, the Crimson Tide finished with a final record of 33-24.

The season didn’t end on a good note, as Stetson managed to shut out Alabama, leaving a total of nine Crimson Tide players on base. The opportunities to score runs were there, but Alabama could not capitalize.

“The lasting memory of the 2024 Alabama baseball team is going to be a group of fighters, a group of tough kids and a group that pulled together to do some special things,” said Vaughn. “That’s the stuff these guys will take with them when the pain goes. I would much rather be hurting now (at a Regional). I’ve had teams that can’t wait for the season to end, but that’s the exact opposite of this team. It hurts to see this thing end.”

Alabama will look to regroup and build upon this season to become even more competitive in a challenging SEC baseball landscape.

Texas A&M sophomore superstar Jace LaViolette recaps doubleheader vs. No. 14 Alabama

“We knew it was going to be a really long day and we kind of prepared for that. We got some good sleep and hydration last night,” he stated.

The No. 1 Texas A&M baseball team took both games of a doubleheader at No. 14 Alabama on Friday, 10-5 and 18-9.

Leading the charge, as he has been all season, was sophomore Jace LaViolette. The superstar outfielder and the Aggies (35-4, 13-4 SEC) remained unphased when the Crimson Tide (24-15, 6-11) took a 5-0 lead in Game 1, going on to outscore their conference rivals 28-9 over the next 14 innings to clinch a series victory.

“We didn’t really have much talk in the dugout, we just kept doing what we were doing. We came out flat at the beginning but we knew once our bats got hot that we could do what we wanted as long as we stayed to our approach, which is what we did,” LaViolette explained Friday. “We knew it was going to be a really long day and we kind of prepared for that. We got some good sleep and hydration last night. It was just a mindset thing, coming to the park and knowing we were going to play two, a full 18 and try to do our best to trust our process and see what the results came to be.

“It’s a lot of fun to be a part of this team, to be a part of this culture, it’s an unbelievable team to be around… I think we just do what we’ve been doing all season, trust in the process and what we’ve been doing. Opening Day mentality and just doing that same thing every day. It’s been working, so why not keep it going?”

Game 1 of Texas A&M vs. Alabama has been cancelled. Here is the updated schedule

Here is the updated schedule for Texas A&M vs. Alabama, as the Aggies are headed for a double-header starting on Friday

Due to storms in the area, Texas A&M baseball’s (33-4, 11-4 SEC) road series vs. Alabama (24-13, 6-9 SEC) has now been rescheduled. Game 1, which was slated to start at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, has now been moved to 11:00 a.m. on Friday mid-morning.

On its face, this is both a win and a loss for a hot Aggies squad that is looking to add to their five-game winning streak and increase their win total in SEC play, as added rest is always beneficial, but playing two games in a row could put added pressure on the bullpen is the starters can’t last through at least five innings in both games.

Slated to start Game 1, Aggies ace pitcher Ryan Prager has been stellar this year, posting an 8-1 record with a 1.98 ERA and 73 strikeouts. For Game 2, transfer pitcher Tanner Jones has been highly serviceable, holding a 7-1 record, a respectable 3.86 ERA, and 33 episodes.
