Alabama (5-2) will return to Coleman Coliseum for the first time in six days to play host to the Arkansas State Red Wolves (2-6). The Red Wolves are led by former Alabama assistant coach Bryan Hodgson.
Through the first eight games of the season, Arkansas State has struggled to find their footing. On the offensive end, the Red Wolves have averaged around 70 points per game. Meanwhile, their defense has struggled severely thus far. Opponents average over 80 points per game.
One of the bright spots for Arkansas State this season has been its backcourt presence. Guard Taryn Todd, forward Dyondre Dominguez, and guard Freddy Hicks average 13.0 points per game and have carried the weight on the offensive end. If they can generate some production on the offensive end, it could create some problems on Monday night.
The Crimson Tide have struggled mightily on the defensive end of the floor this season. Nate Oats and the rest of the coaching staff have prioritized performing at a higher level on defense.
In Game No. 8, I anticipate that Alabama will come out and make it difficult for the Red Wolves to put points on the board. This game will be a “get right” game for the Crimson Tide.
Arkansas State will present some challenges early on. However, I firmly believe that Alabama will pull away in the second half. My final score prediction is Alabama 95, Arkansas State 67.
