Providence guard Al Durham’s impossible reverse layup had Twitter in awe
How?!
Providence senior Al Durham couldn’t have been more ready for the Friars’ opening game of the NCAA Tournament.
He paced the team with nine points on a game-high 10 shot attempts in the first half of their Round of 64 game game against South Dakota State. He also chipped in a team-high five rebounds and three assists.
His scoring prowess isn’t new to anyone who’s watched Providence in its run to the No. 4 seed in the Midwest Region — his 13.4 scoring average is second only to Nate Watson’s 13.8. But one shot in particular from that first half was absolutely ridiculous and deserves a second look.

Driving across the lane from right to left, he threw up an impossible reverse layup with his right hand…while facing away from the basket. Conventional wisdom would say go up with the left, but apparently that would’ve been too predictable? Easy to defend?
Whatever the reason, you can’t argue with the results. Durham somehow found a way to get enough spin and height on the ball and people on Twitter were in awe.
Al Durham with a SportsCenter highlight. Ridiculous scoop with the right hand that falls. #pcbb

Michigan State is reportedly interested in adding a graduate transfer from one of their conference foes — guard Al Durham of Indiana.
Durham — who will be a graduate transfer — entered his name into the transfer portal on Monday, shortly after the news broke that Indiana was parting ways with head coach Archie Miller. Durham has already heard from a number of big time programs, including the Spartans, according to Andrew Slater of The Athletic. Along with Michigan State, Slater is reporting that Kansas, Duke, Villanova, Texas Tech, Providence, Nebraska, LSU, St. John’s and TCU have all contacted Durham.

Durham has been a full-time starter for Indiana in each of the last three seasons. He finished up his best statistical season this past year with an average of 11.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game.
Durham is the second player in the transfer portal in the past few days that Michigan State has reportedly shown interest in, with the Spartans also contacting Northeastern point guard Tyson Walker. Landing Durham would be a big get for Michigan State, but even if they don’t — it’s clear they’ll be bringing in at least one player via the transfer portal this offseason.
