The 2023-24 season has been a long one for the Kentucky Wildcats women’s basketball team. They finished a tough season with a 12 – 20 record, including a 4 – 12 conference record. Then, after losing in the SEC Tournament, head coach Kyra Elzy was relieved of duty. On Wednesday, leading scorer Ajae Petty announced she would be entering the transfer portal.
Ajae Petty makes it official.
With the wording in this, it sounds like she will not be back. Someone out there is about to hit a home run in the portal. https://t.co/F3p0imDb7Q pic.twitter.com/MtpjaHczii

Petty was Kentucky’s leading scorer this season, averaging 14.2 points per game. She also led them with 10.6 rebounds and nearly a blocked shot per game as well.
Originally a member of the LSU Tigers, Petty came to Kentucky after the 2021-22 season. Last season, she averaged just under six points per game to go with three boards. This season, she drastically improved, and became the team’s leader.
There’s still a chance that Petty could change her mind and come back to the Wildcats. Kentucky will look to replace Elzy quickly, and then look ahead to 2024-25. They’ll look to be an improved team, and, for now, it looks like they’ll have to find a new leader on the floor as well.
