Brathwaite Jr. decides to leave football program

AJ Brathwaite Jr. has decided to call it quits with just over three weeks left before the season opener in Little Rock.

Western Kentucky transfer AJ Brathwaite Jr. has decided to leave the football program right as fall camp has gotten into full swing.

Brathwaite Jr., a redshirt senior, was set to at least be a key backup in the secondary at the nickel position before electing to call it quits.

He was originally committed to Florida International after leaving Western Kentucky and getting in the portal, but the Razorbacks flipped him.

Now he hurts the secondary depth and leaves a void to be filled with just a little over three weeks until the season opener in Little Rock.

Arkansas will most likely have to bring some young players along that they were planning on redshirting or not having play very much.

Western Kentucky DB commits to Arkansas during official visit

On Saturday evening, Sam Pittman and the Arkansas football staff snagged their 17th transfer commitment for next season.

Arkansas football received two transfer commitments on Saturday afternoon following [autotag]AJ Brathwaite Jr.[/autotag]’s decision. The Western Kentucky defensive back transfer posted to Twitter to announce his commitment during his official visit in Fayetteville.

Brathwaite previously committed to FIU on Monday, just four days ago, before taking his official visit to Arkansas this weekend. It appears his visit went very well as the Razorback coaching staff snagged their 17th transfer commitment of the off-season immediately following Brathwaite’s visit.

The sixth-year senior will have one season of eligibility after beginning his college career with Western Kentucky back in 2018. Brathwaite has appeared in 48 games for the Hilltoppers and actually played in Fayetteville during Chad Morris’ final game as Arkansas head coach in 2019.

In 2022, he logged 141 snaps at safety and recorded 15 tackles and one interception. For his career, Brathwaite has tallied 99 tackles, four tackles for loss, a sack, two interceptions, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery for a touchdown.

Brathwaite joins Alfahiym Walcott (Baylor), Lorando “Snaxx” Johnson (Baylor) and Jaheim Singletary (Georgia) as newcomers to the Razorback secondary for next season.
