247Sports predicts rise in recruiting rankings for Florida football

247Sports is predicting a rise in the recruiting rankings for the Florida Gators if a trio of Orlando-area commits announce this weekend.

247Sports is very optimistic Florida football’s upcoming recruiting weekend will be a massive success.

The Gators are the No. 23 team in its rankings. With 12 recruits committed to the Gators, Steve Wiltfong is predicting the Orange and Blue to rise into the top 15 by this time next week.

The Gators have missed on blue-chip prospects lately, most recently with four-star linebacker [autotag]Malik Bryant[/autotag] opting to head to Miami instead of staying closer to his Orlando home. This weekend’s events are expected to play a part in remedying the in-state talent going elsewhere.

Friday is the Gators’ annual Friday Night Lights recruiting event in which players get one-on-one work with Florida coaches and staff inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Saturday is Florida’s highly anticipated cookout for recruits.

Wiltfong is particularly high on a trio of potential future Florida Gators from the Orlando area. 247Sports composite four-star prospects [autotag]Aiden Mizell[/autotag] (wide receiver, Orlando), [autotag]Ja’Keem Jackson[/autotag] (cornerback, Kissimmee) and Jordan Castell (safety, Winter Garden) are all projected by the 247Sports’ crystal balls to end up playing their college ball in Gainesville.

Landing all three in-state, blue-chip recruits less than a two hours drive from campus would be a massive victory for [autotag]Billy Napier[/autotag] and his staff. It would make the recruiting weekend an unmitigated success and would be the momentum boost needed on the trail that would ease the recent concerns of the fan base.

Here’s when this 4-star in-state WR plans on announcing commitment

Friday on YouTube — mark the date and time for this blue-chipper’s big announcement.

It has been an eventful week so far for Florida football as high school prospects continue to stream into Gainesville to visit the campus while others have announced their commitments. Unfortunately, the Gators have been on the short end of the stick when it comes to the latter but there are still plenty of opportunities ahead for Billy Napier and Co. to add on to their debut 2023 recruiting class.

Among those making their intentions known in the coming days is four-star wide receiver [autotag]Aidan Mizell[/autotag], an in-state target out of Boone High in Orlando. The highly-sought pass-catcher announced his plans to reveal his school of choice — which also includes the Tennessee Volunteers and Alabama Crimson Tideon the 247Sports YouTube channel Friday at 2:30 p.m. EDT.

“I’m really just tired of waiting,” Mizell said Tuesday according to Swamp 247. “I’m really trying to get it over with.”

Here is what 247Sports’ scouting report says about the 6-foot-2-inch, 180-pound rising senior.

“One of the fastest wide receivers in the class of 2023 given long speed. Size is unverified, but looks to be over 6-foot-1 and gifted with longer limbs… Is quick to stem and stack defensive backs. Agile enough to create separation as he works his way up the field. Owns a surprisingly large catch radius and has shown that he can win 50-50 balls in some situations, but ability to simply catch the football without breaking stride more times than not might be the most promising attribute. Could probably make a living just running go routes one day, but has shown that he can also produce chunk plays via quick bubble screens, at least at the prep level. Has been utilized primarily as a perimeter player on Friday nights and should continue to line up on the outside for the college of his choice given his size and ability to take a top off a defense.”

Mizell is currently ranked No. 72 overall and No. 13 in his class nationally according to the 247Sports composite, while the On3 consensus has him at Nos. 93 and 15, respectively. The Gators hold three crystal ball predictions from 247Sports while On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine also favors Florida with a 91.3% chance of signing him.

Florida is staying in contact with this in-state 4-star WR

Four-star wide receiver Aidan Mizell grew up watching the Gators, but that doesn’t mean he’s a lock for Florida.

Four-star wide receiver Aidan Mizell knows Florida football, and he’s the latest blue-chip receiver to catch the eye of Billy Napier and his recruiting staff, according to 247Sports.

Mizell’s parents both ran track for the Gators and he grew up wearing a Tim Tebow jersey. Now the central Florida recruit is talking daily with Florida’s staff as they attempt to convince him that Gainesville is indeed home.

The early returns are good. Mizell has enjoyed his talks with Napier and wide receivers coach Keary Colbert. In fact, he’s deemed Colbert as one of the top receiver coaches in the country. The only problem is Florida has yet to extend an offer.

“They said they are being patient,” Mizell said to 247Sports. “They said they wanted to get through the 2022 signing day and then they would be moving onto 2023 more. They haven’t said anything about an offer though. They have told me they like my speed and ability after the catch to make touchdowns though.”

An offer could come when Mizell makes it to campus. The plan is for him to stop by Gainesville in the spring or summer, but no dates are set just yet. Fortunately, Boone High School in Orlando is less than two hours from the University of Florida making it easy to plan a trip down the road.

Mizell wants to make his decision around the fall, but it’s not a given that he’ll pick the Gators if offered a scholarship. Still, it doesn’t hurt that he’s been watching Florida play since he was a kid.

“I grew up watching Florida and I always saw them on TV and I have been to few games over the years,” he said. “I have kept up with them as I was young growing up. Once I got to high school I started looking at colleges like a business decision, but 100-percent watched and followed Florida when I was younger.”

Making it a business decision is smart considering Mizell is ranked No. 172 overall on the 247Sports composite. He’s one of the top 25 wide receivers in the class of 2023 and the No. 31 recruit out of Florida.

Florida has looked at many receivers early on, and it can afford to sign multiple players at the position in the 2023 class.
