Mark McLaughlin makes professional debut, records hold in first appearance

Former Vol pitcher Mark McLaughlin makes professional debut and records a hold in first appearance.

Former Vol pitcher Mark McLaughlin was assigned to ACL White Sox of the Arizona Complex League Aug. 20.

He was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the seventh round (No. 221 overall) of the 2022 MLB draft.

McLaughlin made his professional debut Monday against former Vol Jordan Beck and ACL Rockies.

ACL White Sox defeated ACL Rockies, 4-1, at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Arizona.

McLaughlin pitched one inning, recording one strikeout and faced three batters. He earned a hold in the contest.

A hold is earned when a pitcher enters a contest with a lead of three runs or less and maintains the lead, while recording at least one out. A hold can also be earned when a pitcher enters a contest with the tying run on-deck, at the plate or on the bases, and records one out.

Beck went 0-for-2, recording one walk, in the contest. The former Vol extended his on-base streak to 10 games.
