WATCH: 49ers close out Raiders in OT thanks to big defensive stop

The 49ers defense struggled Sunday, but it came up with a huge stop in the biggest moment.

The 49ers closed out the Raiders in overtime thanks to their defense, which had struggled for most of Sunday. Defensive end Nick Bosa carried the left tackle back into QB Jarrett Stidham, who couldn’t follow through on his deep throw up the left sideline. The result was a fluttering ball that landed easily in the hands of safety Tashaun Gipson.

Gipson nearly iced the game himself. He raced up the right sideline before getting pushed out of bounds at the 7. A penalty on the Raiders on the return pushed the 49ers up to the 4, setting up a short Robbie Gould field goal for the win.

This is why San Francisco leans so heavily on its defense. Even on a day where they struggled badly, they still managed to come up with a stop in the game’s biggest moment.

49ers stock report: Who’s up, who’s down after win over Raiders

A look at which #49ers saw their stock rise, and who saw their stock fall in the final preseason game.

A new three-game preseason put more urgency on the third game for the 49ers as they continue figuring out their best 53-man roster and what their depth chart is going to look like.

While the Raiders sat virtually all of their starters, the 49ers had plenty on the line Sunday as it pertains to what the team will be working with going into the regular season.

In a 34-10 win there aren’t many players seeing their stocks drop significantly, but a slew of players had their stocks ticking up with just a couple days to go before final roster cuts.

Everything we know from 49ers’ preseason finale

Here’s a quick rundown of what we know after the #49ers win over the Raiders.

The 49ers’ preseason slate ended Sunday afternoon at Levi’s Stadium with a romp over the Las Vegas Raiders.

This is what we know in the aftermath of the last exhibition game of the season:

49ers vs. Raiders: Quarter-by-quarter observations from 49ers 34-10 win

The #49ers thumped the Raiders to finish their preseason. Our quarter-by-quarter observations.

The 49ers wrapped up their preseason slate with a 34-10 romp over the Las Vegas Raiders.

There were some interesting wrinkles in San Francisco’s quarterback usage, and their roster battles at several positions. Here are our quarter-by-quarter observations of Sunday’s blowout win:

WATCH: Raiders defense forgets about 49ers QB Trey Lance, who scores touchdown

WATCH: Trey Lance with Kyle Shanahan might be unfair. #49ers go up 2 TDs on Raiders.

Trey Lance won’t score many easy touchdowns in the NFL, but he got one early in the second quarter of the 49ers’ preseason finale against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Lance and the 49ers were inside the Raiders’ 5, and Kyle Shanahan dialed up a pretty nasty look with Lance flanked by RB Trey Sermon in the shotgun. WR Jalen Hurd came across in motion. Lance faked a power run to Sermon and kept it to rush around the right side for a walk-in touchdown.

It was a display of how effective the 49ers’ rushing attack can be when the defense has to account for the quarterback as a runner. Expect this play to be a staple for San Francisco.

The Las Vegas Raiders will meet the San Francisco 49ers in Week 3 of the NFL Preseason on Sunday from Levi’s Stadium.

The Raiders come into this game with a 2-0 record so far after knocking off the Chargers and the Seahawks as they go for their third straight win. As for the 49ers, they are coming off a win over the Chargers as we got to see more of their draft pick Trey Lance and we should see some more of him this afternoon.

What to watch in 49ers’ preseason finale vs. Raiders

Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo headline what to watch in the #49ers’ matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Some of the drama was eliminated from the 49ers’ preseason finale when head coach Kyle Shanahan and QB Jimmy Garoppolo made it relatively clear who’s going to start under center in Week 1. There’s still plenty on the table for San Francisco though with an unsettled roster that’ll be trimmed to 53 players by Tuesday at 1:00pm Pacific Time.

Sunday’s dress rehearsal at Levi’s Stadium will be the final opportunity for the coaching staff to assess their roster in a game setting. With that in mind, we’re skipping the typical offense/defense splits and just looking at the roster as a whole, and the seven things we’ll be keeping a close eye on during the 49ers’ third preseason contest.
