Riviera Country Club announced as 2028 Olympic men’s and women’s golf host site

Another big-time event for Riv.

A familiar stop on the PGA Tour will host the world’s best in 2028.

The International Golf Federation, alongside LA28, announced Friday that Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, California, would host the men’s and women’s golf competitions at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic games. Riviera is the site of the Tour’s Genesis Invitational, hosted by Tiger Woods.

“We are honored to work alongside LA28 and the world-renowned Riviera Country Club to host the golf competitions during the 2028 Los Angeles Games,” said Antony Scanlon, executive director of the International Golf Federation. “The Riviera Country Club will offer a prestigious and continuously challenging backdrop for golf’s most elite players, and we look forward to sharing one of the finest courses with our fans around the world.”

Founded in 1926 by the Los Angeles Athletic Club, Riviera ranks No. 4 on Golfweek’s Best list of private courses in California and is No. 17 on the list of classic courses in the United States. It has previously hosted the 1995 PGA Championship, 1998 U.S. Senior Open and 2017 U.S. Amateur. It’s also set to host the 2026 U.S. Women’s Open and the 2031 U.S. Open.

The course will celebrate its centennial in 2026.

Los Angeles will host the Summer Games for a third time (1932, 1984, 2028) and it will mark the fourth straight year of the Olympic golf competition returning to the calendar. The Opening Ceremony will be held on July 14, 2028.

Angel Reese said she hopes she and Caitlin Clark will be 2028 Olympians together

Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark playing in the 2028 Olympics together sounds *awesome.*

While appearing on ESPN on Wednesday, Chicago Sky star rookie Angel Reese painted a very exciting picture for basketball fans about the 2028 Summer Olympics.

While talking about playing with fellow rookie sensation Caitlin Clark in next week’s WNBA All-Star Game, Reese mentioned that she hopes both of them are playing for the United States women’s national team once the summer games head to Los Angeles in four years.

“It’s going to be really cool [to play with Clark in the WNBA All-Star Game]. I mean, I know so many fans are going to come out to watch both of us … We’re going to be playing together for a while,” Reese said in the interview. “Hopefully, 2028, we’ll be Olympians together, too.”

That is such a fun thought to have, as Reese and Clark have firmly established themselves as the faces of the next generation of WNBA stars.

As they contend for WNBA 2024 Rookie of the Year on separate teams, getting the chance to watch them play together on Team WNBA next week in Phoenix on July 20 is going to be a blast.

As Reese alluded, it won’t be the last time we get to see these two in action together, either. Perhaps the 2028 Summer Olympics will be on the horizon, too.

Rams to play all 2028 preseason games away from SoFi Stadium due to Olympics

With SoFi Stadium hosting swimming events for the 2028 Olympics, the Rams will have to get creative for their preseason games

The Los Angeles Rams will be looking for a new home stadium to host their preseason games in 2028 when the Summer Olympics are held in North America. That’s because SoFi Stadium will be used for swimming events that summer, forcing the Rams to play elsewhere.

Rams COO Kevin Demoff confirmed the Rams won’t have any home preseason games in 2028 because of this scheduling conflict, but luckily, it’s only the preseason and the Rams are scheduled to have just one home exhibition game that year.

They have plenty of time to come up with a contingency plan and Demoff is looking for suggestions from fans on where they can play their home preseason game in 2028. With Aloha Stadium in Honolulu being demolished, that’s not an option, though Demoff wishes it was.

Might the Rams consider going back to the Coliseum for a game? Or maybe the Rose Bowl? Luckily, there are a lot of options in California (and elsewhere).

Calvin Ridley wants a shot at Olympic gold in flag football

Flag football will be a sport in the 2028 Olympics and Calvin Ridley wants in.

The International Olympic Committee officially added flag football to the list of sports that will be part of the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles and Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Calvin Ridley wants to know where to sign up.

“I’d go to the Olympics and try to compete, for sure,” Ridley said Tuesday. “It’s the Olympics. If they want to go ahead and get me a gold medal — if I get on a good team, the U.S., I’d definitely be on the U.S. team, for sure.”

Ridley isn’t the only NFL player eying an opportunity to compete for gold in five years.

But the question is whether NFL players will be allowed to compete.

“That opportunity for athletes to represent their countries, we understand the desire,” NFL executive Peter O’Reilly said in a press conference Tuesday, via the Associated Press. “What we will continue to do is work with the players, [the NFL] Players Association, and the clubs in the time ahead to determine the process and then work with USA Football and IFAF on that.”

Ridley, who is 28 and will be 33 during the 2028 Olympics, said Tuesday that he grew up playing flag football and won a national championship in 7-on-7.

When asked if he thought NFL teams would allow players to participate in flag football, he didn’t see much downside.

“Why not? I mean, it’s flag football, it’s the offseason. It’s training, basically. Why not? I think it’d be cool.”
