How many times are the Pittsburgh Steelers scheduled for prime-time?

The Steelers were granted four nationally televised prime-time games on the initial schedule, not counting Week 18. Later in the season, their games could potentially be flexed to Thursday, Sunday, or Monday night.

The games the Steelers are currently scheduled on prime-time are:

  • Sun., Oct. 6: Home vs. the Dallas Cowboys, 8:20 p.m., NBC/Peacock
  • Sun., Oct. 20: Home vs. the New York Jets, 8:20 p.m., NBC/Peacock
  • Mon., Oct. 28: Home vs. New York Giants, 8:15 p.m., ESPN
  • Thurs., Nov. 21: Away vs. Cleveland Browns, 8:15 p.m., Prime

What Pittsburgh Steelers games are eligible to be flexed to/from prime time?

A tweet from independent NFL reporter René Bugner breaks down all NFL prime-time games with flex potential. The Steelers have just two games that could be flexed from their current spots: Week 5, home versus the Dallas Cowboys and Week 7, hosting the New York Jets.

The NFL doesn’t flex Monday Night Football matchups until starting Week 12, so there’s no threat to their Week 8 game versus the New York Giants being bumped.

Similarly, flex scheduling for Thursday Night Football starts Week 13, keeping Pittsburgh’s Week 12 game against Cleveland in its current slot.

Did the NFL load the Steelers schedule intentionally for ‘Hard Knocks’?

The Steelers have a brutal stretch run this season, and it will all be televised on HBO’s “Hard Knocks.”

I am not a conspiracy theory guy, but sometimes things just don’t add up. When the NFL released the regular-season schedule, we were puzzled about why the league decided to backload it so much for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Steelers play all six of their AFC North matchups in the final eight games with showdowns against the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles thrown in for good measure.

Crazy, right?

Maybe not. Maybe it was all a plan. HBO is doing something unprecedented with their “Hard Knocks” docuseries as they will feature all of the AFC North, including the Pittsburgh Steelers, in the in-season version of the show. It begins on Dec. 3 and runs through the end of the season.

Why does this matter? This will mean the series will show the Steelers during the final five games of the season, which includes one game against each of Pittsburgh’s division foes, and those two games against the Eagles and Chiefs.

Was this all orchestrated so HBO gets one of the most popular teams in the NFL during what could be a spiral after a strong start? These shows are all about ratings, and it feels like a behind-the-scenes look at a struggling Steelers team would translate to huge viewership.

Steelers WR Calvin Austin III says no more ‘lip service’ by the offense

Calvin Austin says it’s all business for the offense this season.

There’s no arguing the Pittsburgh Steelers offense has underperformed. Not just last season but over the last several years, this group was definitely more show than go at times. Going all the way back to when the team had the Killer Bs of Ben Roethliebrger, Le’Veon Bell and Antonio Brown, this group underachieved.

But wide receiver Calvin Austin III gave us a sliver of hope that maybe, just maybe the light has come on for the team and it will be less talk and more action this season. Austin met with the media at his locker after OTA practice on Monday.

Austin is one of those players who could really help the Steelers if he can just put it all together. The Steelers drafted him because of his deep speed but after a season-ending injury, he hasn’t made it all the way back yet.

Pittsburgh’s offense will be the difference this season thanks to a nightmare of a schedule. Let’s hope Austin is right and this group finally puts it all together for a full four quarters every week.

Steelers rumored to be headed to Atlanta for season opener

Arthur Smith could be headed to Atlanta in Week One to take on his old team.

According to WSB Atlanta sports director Zach Klein, the Pittsburgh Steelers will open their season on the road in Atlanta to take on the Falcons in Week One of the 2024 NFL regular season.

This one feels like it was completely planned to be a return to Atlanta for Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith. Smith joined the Steelers staff after being fired by the Falcons after two seasons as their head coach.

The Falcons made a huge splash this offseason when they signed free-agent quarterback Kirk Cousins to a massive contract to try and turn the franchise around. They then shocked us even more when they spent their first-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft on quarterback Michael Penix Jr.

The Steelers also rebuilt their quarterback room by adding Russell Wilson, Justin Fields and Kyle Allen. The NFL will release the full regular-season schedule on Wednesday, May 15.
