Some guys are into stylish watches and timepieces, while others are into wine, clothes, cycling or fishing. Scotty Cameron has been a car guy, especially American muscle cars. Over the years, names like Fastback (which is a name given to slant-back Mustangs) have been used for putters, and automobile-inspired visuals have been added to putters, as well.

Now comes the H24 Limited Phantom 9.2, a limited-edition mallet putter that will be offered for $900 at select Titleist-authorized shops on Dec. 13.

The H24 Limited Phantom 9.2 comes standard at 34.5 inches in length and with 3.5 degrees of loft and a 70-degree lie angle. The Phantom 9 head has been given a a plumber’s neck hosel that creates one shaft’s-width of offset.

The head itself is milled from 303 stainless steel, but a larger portion of the bottom has been milled out and then covered by a 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum sole plate.

What makes the H24 Limited Phantom 9.2 special are the tour-black finish and the little details that Cameron has added. On the dual-milled face, golfers will see racing stripes running across the Scotty Cameron logo, complementing the race-car inspired, triple-milled orange and gray sight lines on the crown. The 15-gram weights in the heel and toe have even been given laser-etched checkerboards that echo the flag waved as the winning car crosses the finish line. The whole package creates a look that Steve McQueen would have loved and that gearheads will gush for.

Gear: Scotty Cameron Xperimental GoLo 6.2 LTD putter
Price: $800
Specs: Milled 303 stainless steel with a 6061 aluminum sole place and adjustable sole weights.
Available: Sept. 27

Who it’s for: Deep-pocketed golfers with a moderate-arc putting stroke who want more forgiveness and a club that stands out from the crowd.

What you should know: The limited-edition Xperimental GoLo 6.2 is a mid-size mallet designed to create moderate toe hang and a solid feel thanks to a higher moment of inertia and a new face milling pattern.

The Deep Dive: Scotty Cameron Xperimental GoLo 6.2 LTD

The first Scotty Cameron Super Select putters were released in early 2023, and they were all blade-style offerings, but a few months later, a line extension brought mid-size mallets, including the Del Mar, Fastback 1.5 and a pair of GoLo 6 putters. Over the last few seasons, more and more pros have become open to the idea of using a mallet putter because they offer two distinct advantages over blades: mallets are almost always more stable on mis-hit putters, and their larger size allows for more extensive, easier-to-use alignment systems.

Many of Scotty Cameron’s putters are created with feedback from PGA and LPGA pros, so after seeing the trends and listening to feedback, Cameron and his team developed the limited edition Xperimental GoLo 6.2 LTD putter, and it should be in select stores in about two weeks.

Scotty Cameron Xperimental GoLo 6.2 LTD
The Xperimental GoLo 6.2 LTD has a plumber’s neck and single black alignment line. (Titleist)

Based on the shaping of the Super Select GoLo 6.0, the Xperimental GoLo 6.2 LTD is milled from a block of 303 stainless steel and features a semi-circular design with a single black alignment line in the back flange. The putter has moderate toe hang thanks to its plumber’s neck hosel, making it ideal for golfers who have a slightly-arced putting stroke.

Unlike the standard Super Select GoLo 6.0, the Xperimental version has been made with a unique face milling pattern that Cameron refers to as “chain-mill.” In addition to the milling marks created by two passes of the circular milling bit, there is a chain link pattern extending from heel to toe. According to Scotty Cameron, the pattern creates a softer feel associated with his deep-mill patterns but with more consistency.

The Xperimental GoLo 6.2 LTD putter has a gold-tone finish that Cameron refers to as chromatic bronze, and it is created during a proprietary process after the topline and the face are hand-buffed.

A portion of the steel has been removed from the sole and is covered by a 6061 aluminum plate. This shifts more of the overall weight to the heel and toe areas, which boosts the moment of inertia (MOI) and makes the Xperimental GoLo 6.2 LTD more stable on mis-hits.

The sole weights in the heel and toe are designed to allow fitters to increase or decrease the putter’s swing weight based on its length or a golfer’s preferences.

Gear: Scotty Cameron B3 Triple Black Design LTD putters
Price: $750 each
Specs: Milled 303 stainless steel with adjustable sole weights
Available: July 26

Who It’s For: Deep-pocketed golfers who demand a high level of precision and want a stylish, eye-catching putter.

The Skinny: This limited-edition run of Scotty Cameron blade putters blends the dual-milling design and shaping of the Super Select family with a black PVD finish, black shaft and black grip.

The Deep Dive: Scotty Cameron has immersed himself in the cultures of Southern California for decades, finding inspiration for his creations in things like the surf vibes of Encinitas and the American muscle cars that still cruise up and down the Pacific Coast Highway. At his studio in San Marcos, along with industrial sculptures that Cameron has made, you may also catch a glimpse of a vintage, tan Ford F100 that has a patina on the hood wheel wells.

The name of Scotty Cameron’s newest limited-edition putter line, the B3 Triple Black Design, draws inspiration from the world of automobiles, particularly convertibles. Just as a black car with a black interior and black top is often referred to as a triple black, Cameron’s putters come in a striking black PVD finish, with a black shaft and a black grip.

There are four B3 Triple Black Design putters, and all of the shapes will be familiar to blade putter aficionados — the Newport 2, Newport 2 Long Neck, Santa Fe and Catalina.

Scotty Cameron B3 Triple Black
The Scotty Cameron B3 Triple Black putters each have a single black alignment line and silver-toned “cherry bombs” on the back. (David Dusek/Golfweek)

Each putter starts as a block of 303 stainless steel before it is milled into shape. Adjustable sole weights in the heel and toe allow fitters to modify the swing weight of the clubs easily. If you are looking for a high-contrast alignment system, you won’t find one in the B3 Triple Black Design putters. The single alignment line in the head putter is black. However, instead of the customary red dots on the back of each head (which are often referred to as cherry bombs), the dots are silver-toned in the B3 Triple Black Design putters.

Like the Super Select putters that were released in 2023 and the Phantom mallet putters that dropped in January, the B3 Triple Black Design putters feature a dual-milled face. The first milled creates deep, circular grooves that help the clubs create a deeper, richer sound and feel at impact. The second milling cuts off the sharp peaks produced by the first milling, so more of the hitting area makes contact with the ball for an enhanced feel.

Scotty Cameron B3 Triple Black
The Scotty Cameron B3 Triple Black Newport 2 is a classic heel-toe weighted blade with a plumber’s neck hosel. (David Dusek/Golfweek)

The most familiar-looking putter in the B3 Triple Black Design line is the Newport 2, a classic heel-toe weighted blade with a plumber’s neck hosel. The Newport 2 Long Neck has the same head, but the extended-length hosel makes it face-balanced, so the Newport 2 Long Neck is more suited for players who make a straight-back, straight-through stroke.

The B3 Triple Black Design Santa Fe has a similar shape to the Newport 2, but the edges are more rounded and the lines appear softer when you look down in the address position. Instead of a plumber’s neck hosel, the Santa Fe has a short flared neck. The combination of the Newport-style head and flared neck has previously been a tour-only option.

Finally, the B3 Triple Black Design Catalina blends the Newport shape with an extended-length, single-bend hosel, once again creating a face-balanced design.

Each of the four B3 Triple Black Design putters comes with a black Pistolini Plus grip, a stepless steel shaft that includes a custom B3 Triple Black Design LTD shaft band and a special B3 Triple Black Design LTD headcover.

Gear: Scotty Cameron Long putters
Price: $499 each
Specs: 303 milled stainless steel with adjustable sole weights (Super Select Squareback 2) and 17-inch grip; 303 stainless steel and 6061 aluminum with adjustable sole weights (Phantom 11) and 17-inch grip.

Who They’re For: Golfers who want to reduce the hand and wrist action in their putting stroke while also gaining extra stability.

The Skinny: Each of the Scotty Cameron Long putters comes standard at 38 inches in length with a 17-inch grip and an extra-heavy head, creating a slightly counterbalanced putter that should reduce the hand and wrist involvement in the putting stroke and increase consistency.

The Deep Dive: Last season, two of the most prestigious events in men’s golf—the U.S. Open and FedEx Cup—were won by players using extended-length putters fitted with extra-long grips. Just as recreational golfers notice what gear the pros use, other elite players see what winners use and decide to experiment with clubs built this way, too.

The vast majority of Scotty Cameron putters that have been used on tour and sold at retail over the last two decades have measured between 33 and 35 inches in length and been fitted with conventional-length grips, but Cameron has now released two extended-length putters to complement the previously released Super Select and Phantom lineups.

The new Super Select Squareback 2 Long and Phantom 11 Long both come with 25-gram tungsten sole weights in the heel and toe areas, which increases the head weight of the putters. They also both come standard at 38 inches long, although they can be purchased through custom orders at different lengths. Finally, both putters have a 135-gram, 17-inch grip.

Scotty Cameron Long putters
Scotty Cameron Long putters are designed to have a portion of the grip extend above your hands. (David Dusek/Golfweek)

That setup – combining a heavier putter head with a longer, heavier grip – not only increases the overall weight of the club but also creates a counterbalance effect. When a player addresses a ball and puts his or her hands in their normal position, a portion of the extra-long grip will protrude above their hands. This mass helps counterbalance the heavier head, reducing the use of hand and wrist muscles in the putting stroke for most players. This reduction can lead to more consistent putting strokes and improved performance.

Unlike the ultra-heavy counterbalanced putters that were released immediately after the USGA and R&A outlawed anchored putters in 2016, which many players struggled with on long putts, the Super Select Squareback 2 Long and Phantom 11 Long have a subtle counterbalancing effect. On short putts, these putters encourage players to rock their shoulders to make the stroke. However, on longer putts, when some wrist and hand usage can help generate power and get the ball to the hole, the extended-length shaft and grip do not impede the stroke.

The putter heads are identical to the previously released versions, except they are heavier and affixed to a stiffer steel shaft.

Scotty Cameron Long putters
The Super Select Squareback 2 Long has a dual-milled face. (David Dusek/Golfweek)

The Super Select Squareback 2 Long is milled from 303 stainless steel and is a heel-toe-weighted design that blade-style putter lovers will like. Compared to a Newport or Newport 2, the back flange is larger. Like the other Super Select putters, it features a dual-milled face. The first milling pass makes a deep cut into the hitting area and creates a circular pattern that softens the sound and feel before a second milling shaves off the points produced in the first milling. According to Scotty Cameron, flattening the milling points puts more surface area of the face in contact with the ball, amplifying the feel.

[afflinkbutton text=”Shop Super Select Squareback 2-Long” link=”https://worldwidegolfshops.pxf.io/4Pvzx1″]

The steel in a small portion of the sole was removed before it was covered by an aluminum plate, which increases the perimeter weighting and helps the Super Select Squareback 2 Long resist twisting on off-center hits. The putter has a black alignment line and a plumber’s neck hosel that creates about 30 degrees of toe hang, so the putter should be ideal for golfers who have a slightly arced putting stroke.

The Phantom 11 is a high-MOI mallet that has silver-toned 303 stainless steel and black-finished 6061 aluminum. It also has the same dual-milled face design found on the Super Select Squareback 2 Long for enhanced sound and feel.

Scotty Cameron Long putters
The Phantom 11 has several design elements incorporated in the shape to help you aim putts more easily. (David Dusek/Golfweek)

The Phantom 11 has a single-bend shaft that creates a face-balanced head, making it well-suited for golfers who make a straight-back, straight-through putting stroke.

The Phantom 11 also has several design elements to help players aim the face more easily, including a two-piece arrow that extends from the back of the head to the face and comes to a point in the ideal hitting spot.

Best new golf putters you can buy in 2024

Check out Golfweek’s list of the best putters available to purchase in 2024.

The big trend in drivers this season is adding stability and boosting the moment of inertia (MOI) so tee shots that you mis-hit fly straighter and farther. The big trend in putters in 2024 is similar — more forgiveness and stability.

Twenty years ago on the PGA Tour, most players used heel-to-toe weighted blades like the classic Ping Anser, Scotty Cameron Newport and Odyssey #1. Then, in the mid-2000s, the Odyssey 2-Ball putters exploded and mallets found their way into more and more bags on tour and in local clubs. Fast forward to the mid-2010s, and TaylorMade’s Spider Tour putter, a mid-size mallet with a high MOI but some toe-hang for golfers who have an arced stroke, takes the putting world by storm. Odyssey’s #7 and Scotty Cameron’s Futura X 5, with stability-boosting extensions in the heel and toe became more popular over the last decade too.

Plenty of golfers still love the look and feel of classic blades, but mallets, often made with multiple materials, are here to stay because they allow designers to shift weight into performance-enhancing areas and create bolder alignment features.

The best putter for you is waiting at your local shop, and after going through a putter fitting that includes discovering your idea putter length, lie angle, loft and balance, you will know exactly what it is. The putters listed below can give you a starting point to learn more about clubs you might want to try.

Note: Putters are often released on two-year product cycles, which means updates are released every two years. For that reason, you will see several 2023 offerings alongside new 2024 putters.

Who It’s For: Golfers who want a mallet that is easy to align and aim while still getting the sound and feel of Scotty Cameron’s milled blade putters.

The Skinny: The Phantom putters for 2024 have been subtly tweaked so the entire head acts like an alignment aid, while the dual-milled face design enhances sound and feel in each of the five different head shapes.

The Deep Dive: Golfers who compete on the PGA Tour, LPGA and DP World Tour have loved the look and feel of Scotty Cameron blade-style putters for years, but the popularity of mallets increased over time. Today, about half of the Scotty Cameron putters you will see “inside the ropes” are mallets. But while most players add a mallet to their bag for extra forgiveness, they still want to maximize feel, get a pleasing sound at impact and like what they see when they look down at the club.

That’s why, besides Newport, Newport 2 and other blade-style putters, Cameron offers several different mallets in the Phantom lineup, which has been updated for 2024.

While recreational golfers typically see mallet putters as clubs offering more forgiveness, tour players usually see their most appealing feature as something else. Yes, larger putters tend to resist twisting on off-center hits more than blades, and the Phantom putters offer a higher moment of inertia (MOI) than the Scotty Cameron Super Select blades, but elite golfers often prefer mallets because they can hold bigger, more effective alignment aids.

Cameron wanted to make that the most significant point of emphasis in the 2024 Phantom family and worked with his team to make each head work as an alignment system.

For example, when golfers put a Phantom 11 putter down behind a ball, they see a pair of lines extending from the back of the head to the topline and forming an arrow. However, golfers may not even be aware that the topline edges in the heel and toe area have been angled inward toward the ball, while the back of the topline has also been angled toward the ball. The negative space between the wings in the back of the head also forms a second arrow. These features work together to aid a golfer in alignment, even if some of them are working subconsciously.

The Phantom 9 has two lines on the top, but while there is no arrow, the angles on the topline and the space between the wings in the back point the golfer’s eyes toward the ball and the target line.

In addition to subtly modifying the putter shapes, Scotty Cameron and his team have updated the milling pattern in the hitting area. Each Phantom mallet still starts as a block of 303 stainless steel that is milled into shape, and 6061 aircraft-grade aluminum has been added in the soles to reduce weight in the center and increase the perimeter weighting, but now the Phantom putters have come with the same dual-milling face that debuted in 2023’s Super Select family

During the process, a milling machine passes over the face, makes deep cuts in the hitting area and removes ribbons of steel. Then, a second milling pass shaves the points off the hitting area created during the first milling pass, flattening them. The result is a face that creates the sound and feel of a deep-mill pattern but also puts more steel on the ball at impact to enhance a golfer’s sense of touch.

Finally, Cameron gave the 2024 Phantom putters a new rubber grip. For years, Scotty Cameron putters have come with very slender or pistol-style grips, but the Phantom putters come standard with a paddle-style grip that is flat on the top and features minimal taper.

Below is a closer look at the 2024 Scotty Phantom 5, 7, 9, 11 and 12 putters.
