Eddie House: Play made by Heat’s Caleb Martin neither malicious nor suspension-worthy

A lot of people understandably got upset by the play made by Caleb Martin at the end of the Celtics’ 114-94 win over the Heat in Game 1

A lot of people understandably got upset by the play made by Miami Heat wing Caleb Martin at the end of the Boston Celtics’ 114-94 win over the Heat in Game 1 of their East first round series. The Miami forward sent star Celtics swingman Jayson Tatum flying as he seemed to attack the cup for a rebound. Many questioned the intent of his actions on the dangerous play, some even calling for his suspension.

Speaking after Boston’s win, former Celtics (and Heat) shooting guard Eddie House took a different tack on the physical play while working as a broadcaster for NBC Sports Boston.

Instead, house suggested that while very aggressive, Martin’s play was neither malicious nor suspension-worthy.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear House’s case why he thinks this to be true.

What should we take away from the Boston Celtics’ Game 1 win vs. the Miami Heat?

We saw the sort of strong, focused play from Boston for 3.5 quarters — should Celtics fans worry about the half-quarter they slumped?

What should we take away from the Boston Celtics‘ Game 1 win vs. the Miami Heat in the NBA’s 2024 Eastern Conference Playoffs’ first round on this past Sunday (April 21)? We saw the sort of strong, focused play from Boston for three and half quarters — should Celtics fans worry about the half-quarter they slumped?

And what about the Heat’s physical play in the win for Boston? Is it by design, or just playoff basketball? And did it cross the line into dirty play at times, or are we just not used to postseason ball so early in the playoffs?

The hosts of the CLNS Media “Garden Report” podcast, Bobby Manning, Josue Pavon, Jimmy Toscano, A. Sherrod Blakely and John Zannis, weighed in postgame on Sunday. Check it out below!

Tatum has notched his first ever triple-double in the postseason, and helped the Celtics overcome the “Heat Culture” approach to the game.

Star Celtics forward Jayson Tatum has notched his first ever triple-double in the postseason, and helped the Celtics overcome the so-called “Heat Culture” approach to the game, which seems to lean on physicality to the point of being borderline dirty play. Celtics dominate Game 1 vs. Heat as Caleb Martin gives hard foul on Jayson Tatum

The Celtics knew that they would have a physical matchup on their hands when they played the Heat in Game 1.

The Boston Celtics knew that they would have a physical matchup on their hands when they played the Miami Heat in Game 1 of their first round series against their Eastern Conference rivals. And that is what they got in their 114-94 blowout of the Heat on this past (April 21) Sunday afternoon.

Hard screens set by the likes of Miami big man Bam Adebayo sent Celtics point guard Derrick White flying, sprawled across the parquet floor. What are the biggest Boston Celtics concerns heading into the 2024 NBA Playoffs?

Will Boston be exploitable in familiar ways?

What are the biggest Boston Celtics concerns heading into the 2024 NBA Playoffs? The Celtics start their first round matchup with the winner of the league’s 2024 play-in tournament, the Miami Heat. That ball club is sure to raise the hackles of fans still smarting from losing to the Heat in the 2023 Eastern Conference Finals. But this is not that Miami squad, with a weaker supporting cast and a Jimmy Butler dealing with a knee injury.

Will Boston be exploitable in familiar ways? Will their health and focus stay where the team wants it to? And what else might Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra have cooked up for this iteration of the Celtics?

The eponymous hosts of the CLNS Media “Bob Ryan, Jeff Goodman, and Gary Tanguay!” podcast weighed in on their concerns ahead of the postseason on a recent episode. Check it out below.

The Boston Celtics will face the Miami Heat in the first round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs

As good as Boston has been in the 2023-24 regular season, can we trust them to defeat Miami?

The Boston Celtics will face the Miami Heat in the first round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs after the Heat defeated the Chicago Bulls in the play-in game to decide the eighth seed set to face Boston at the No. 1 seed.

The knee injury to Jimmy Butler looms large ahead of the rematch between the two storied ball clubs when they met in the 2024 Eastern Conference Finals, Miami advancing. Full Boston Celtics first round 2024 East NBA Playoffs schedule vs. Miami Heat

The question of who the Boston Celtics will face in the first round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs has been settled after the Miami Heat defeated the Chicago Bulls in their second game of the league’s 2024 play-n tournament. And with that certainty, we can begin to analyze the matchup in earnest.

The Heat are not the team that sent the Celtics packing in the 2023 Eastern Conference Finals, playing worse and likely without star forward Jimmy Butler as he deals with an MCL injury. And while we can’t say for certain that Boston will make short work of Miami, they should if they come with the proper discipline and focus.

But one thing we do know for certain is when and where the games will be played, so let’s take a look at the Celtics’ first round playoffs schedule.

Celtics catch a break in terms of health heading into the 2024 NBA Playoffs

Did the Celtics dodge a bullet matching up with the Miami Heat?

Had the Chicago Bulls been the team to advance to the full postseason to face the Boston Celtics in the first round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs, they would have had to play against the Eastern Conference’s best team down several of their best players.

But instead, the Miami Heat won the contest and the right to face the Celtics — and they too will likely have to do so without one of their best players in star forward Jimmy Butler. Likely out for multiple weeks with an MCL injury, the loss of Butler will make the series a tough one for the Heat, even with the paranoia of many Celtics fans due to previous series vs. Miami.

The hosts of the CLNS Media “How Bout Them Celtics!” podcast, Jack Simone and Sam LaFrance, weighed in on how injuries will shape Boston’s first round of the 2024 NBA postseason. Check it out below.
