Report: Celtics governor Wyc Grousbeck to sell stake in team

Celtics governor Wyc Grousbeck is reportedly looking to sell his stake in the franchise.

According to a report from the Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach, Boston Celtics governor Wyc Grousbeck is planning to sell his stake in the franchise. Fresh off of winning the club’s first franchise in 16 years, change could be on the horizon in Boston.

Grousbeck joined Steve Pagliuca and others in purchasing the club in 2002 for $360 million, and last year Forbes estimated the team was worth $4.7 billion. According to Himmelsbach, the broader ownership of the team will not change. Still, Grousbeck is the principle owner of the club, and has been a big advocate for the team’s aggressive spending in recent seasons to build a championship-caliber club and help Boston return to the NBA finals. The Celtics are expected to have one of the most expensive rosters in the league over the next few seasons, and it will be interesting to see how a regime approaches these financial obligations.

Expect more updates on this to come in the next few weeks.

Woj: Derrick White agrees to four-year extension with Celtics

Derrick White and the Celtics have reportedly come to terms on a new contract extension.

The Boston Celtics have agreed to terms on a four-year, $125.9 million contract extension with guard Derrick White, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The deal includes a player option, but will keep White in Celtic green for the foreseeable future.

White first came to Boston from the San Antonio Spurs at the 2022 NBA trade deadline. Since then, White has emerged as one of the club’s most important offensive role players thanks to his reliable shooting and playmaking. On the other side of the action, the Colorado native is one of the league’s top defensive guards, and White has landed on the NBA All-Defensive Second Team for two straight seasons. Alongside Jrue Holiday, Boston owns one of the most defensively formidable backcourt its in the entire association.

In securing an extension for White, Boston has its core players all locked down for next season. The club will look to defend its title and become the first repeat champions in six seasons.

Celtics sign center Luke Kornet to new contract

The Celtics have reportedly inked Luke Kornet to a new deal at the opening of NBA free agency.

Center Luke Kornet is set to remain a member of the Boston Celtics, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Kornet is reportedly signing a one-year deal with Boston, avoiding free agency and instead returning to the Celtics as the team looks to defend its title.

Kornet averaged 15.6 minutes per game during the regular season last year as one of Boston’s key reserves. The Vanderbilt alum also shot 70% from the field and was a steady rebounder. Importantly, he also started in 7 games for the Celtics whenever both Al Horford and Kristaps Porzingis were sidelined. Given that the latter is set to miss the beginning of the 2024-25 season, Kornet’s flexibility and familiarity with how the team plays will be valuable. In his time with Boston, Kornet has also become something of a fan favorite thanks to his memorable celebrations and post-game press conferences

With Boston’s bloated payroll, the team isn’t likely to make many big splashes in free agency this summer, and re-signing Kornet takes away one of the few unknowns for the Celtics this summer.

Celtics reportedly sign Cleveland State forward Tristan Enaruna to Exhibit-10 deal

Enaruna put up 19.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.2 steals, and nearly a block per game in his final season with Cleveland State.

The Boston Celtics are reportedly filling out their 2024 Las Vegas Summer League roster with an eye towards perhaps landing a two way spot with the parent club or perhaps a spot with the Maine Celtics.

According to Draft Express Dot Com’s Jon Chepkovich, “Cleveland State’s Tristan Enaruna has agreed to an Exhibit-10 deal with the Boston Celtics.” An intriguing talent that would not have turned heads had Boston taken him at No. 54, Chepkovich adds that the “Dutch forward boasts an NBA-caliber physical/athletic profile at (6-foot-8 and one-quarter inch with a 7-foot-1) wing span and a (38-inch max vertical leap)”.

Enaruna put up 19.6 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.2 steals, and nearly a block per game in his final season at the NCAA level with Cleveland State, shooting 32.2% from beyond the arc, 49.8% overall, and 72.1% from the free throw line.

Get a glimpse of newest Boston Celtics forward Anton Watson’s game in these highlights vs. UConn

To get more familiar with his game, check out his highlights in the 2024 NCAA Tournament as his Bulldogs took on UConn, the eventual champs.

The Boston Celtics have made their second and final pick of the 2024 NBA draft at No. 54 overall, taking Gonzaga power forward Anton Watson. A 6-foot-8, 230-lb. swingman who hit 41.2% of his attempts from beyond the arc with the Zags last season, Watson is an older prospect at nearly 24 years old.

If Boston is looking to find a player to approximate some of what veteran big man Al Horford brings to the table, they did well with Watson. The Spokane native can also move the ball well, and can defend well, able to switch 1-5, close out on shooters, and protect the rim some.

He stands 6-foot-7.5 barefoot with a 7-foot wingspan and an 8-foot-9 standing reach and good hands near the rim. Watson can put the ball on the floor at the college level, but it could be a while before he sees the floor until his offense catches up to his defensive acumen.

To get more familiar with his game, check out his highlights in the 2024 NCAA Tournament as his Bulldogs took on UConn, the eventual champs.

Celtics draft Anton Watson from Gonzaga with No. 54 pick

The Celtics just drafted Gonzaga’s Anton Watson with the No. 54 pick in this year’s NBA draft.

The Boston Celtics used the No. 54 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft to select Anton Watson from Gonzaga. The 23-year-old joined Baylor Scheierman as the latest players to join the Celtics orbit.

Watson played five seasons with Gonzaga, establishing himself as a smart passer and a reliable deep threat. He shot 41.2% on 3-pointers during the 2023-24 campaign for the Bulldogs. At 6-foot-8, Watson has earned comparisons to Al Horford thanks to his versatility on the offensive end and his intelligent, patience play on defense. It is unclear at the time of this writing how much time, if any, Watson will spend in Boston, but he could end up being a high-impact player with the club’s G-League affiliate, the Maine Celtics.

The NBA’s Las Vegas Summer League kicks off next week, and will give fans a chance to see Watson and Scheierman in Celtic green.

Porzingis to miss ‘5-6 months’ after successful offseason surgery

Kristaps Porzingis underwent successful surgery on his left ankle and will be sidelined for several months.

Boston Celtics big man Kristaps Porzingis recently had surgery on his injured foot, according to ESPN’s Tim Bontemps. It is expected he will be sidelined from basketball activities for “5-to-6 months,” the team told Bontemps.

Porzingis suffered a torn medial retinaculum in his left foot in Game 2 of the 2024 NBA Finals. This is a tissue that keeps in place several important tendons and ligaments in the ankle. and as a result of the initial injury, Porzingis also dislocated his posterior tibialis tendon. He was able to to play limited minutes of Game 5 of the series, but surgery was always expected given the nature of the injury. The initial timeline could see Porzingis make his return around Christmas, but it is too early to know for certain.

Boston was 21-4 with Porzingis sitting during the regular season this past year.

Celtics select Baylor Scheierman in first round of 2024 NBA Draft

The Boston Celtics have selected Baylor Scheierman with No. 30 pick on day one of the 2024 NBA Draft.

The Boston Celtics selected Baylor Scheierman from Creighton University with their first round pick at the 2024 NBA Finals. Boston owned the No. 30 selection after winning 64 games in the regular season.

At 6-foot-6, Scheierman played five seasons at the college level after beginning his NCAA career at South Dakota State University. He spent two seasons at Creighton, leading the Bluejays to the Elite Eight in 2022-2023. The following season he earned Third-team All-American honors. Scheierman combines size and touch, and is particularly good rebounding the ball. He can shoot the ball, too. If the 23-year-old he can provide value on defense, Scheierman could end up cracking Boston’s rotation sooner rather than later.

This is the first year where the second round of the draft will be held across two nights. At the time of this writing, Boston owns the No. 54 pick for round two of the 2024 NBA draft.

What is an ideal 2024 NBA offseason for the Chicago Bulls?

There are a lot of things in need of being addressed – but what takes precedence?

What is an ideal offseason for the Chicago Bulls? We all know that the Bulls hope to trade veteran guard Zach LaVine to any team willing to return something of value to the Bulls, and that the team also has some decisions to make about the free agency of veteran wing DeMar DeRozan and rising forward Patrick Williams.

And then there is also the issue of what the Bulls are going to do with their sole pick of the 2024 NBA draft. Will they pick a player ready to help now? One they will need to develop? Or could they deal away the pick for an established player to add to the team?

The folks behind the “Bulls Central” YouTube channel recently put together a clip highlighting what an ideal offseason might look like from their point of view.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear exactly what shape that would take.

What are the Chicago Bulls’ biggest decisions for the 2024 NBA offseason?

What about the Bulls’ No. 11 overall pick of the 2024 NBA draft?

What are the Chicago Bulls‘ biggest decisions for the 2024 NBA offseason? The Bulls’ front office certainly has no shortage of things in need of attention on their very lengthy to-do list. And perhaps one could make the case that the first order of business is trading away veteran combo guard Zach LaVine.

But is moving on from the oft-injured UCLA alum really the most important thing that Chicago needs to do before the start of the 2024-25 NBA season? What about the Bulls’ No. 11 overall pick of the 2024 NBA draft? Could they pick a critical player out of a fairly weak draft? Or use it as part of a package to land a star player? And what about the free agency of rising forward Patrick Williams and veteran win DeMar DeRozan?

We could probably think of more if we tried, and the hosts of the “CHGO Bulls” podcast took some time to tell us what they think they are in the clip embedded below.
