The latest 2024 NBA mock draft from ESPN has Rob Dillingham to the Spurs

Imagine that Dillingham-Wembanyama pick-and-roll.

Kentucky Wildcats guard Rob Dillingham could become the point guard of the future alongside Victor Wembanyama on the San Antonio Spurs.

Dillingham is widely considered one of the top players at his position in this class. After averaging 15.2 points with 3.9 assists per game while shooting 44.4 percent on 3-pointers as a freshman, the SEC named him Sixth Man of the Year.

In our latest 2024 NBA mock draft, we had Dillingham selected by the Chicago Bulls at No. 11 overall. But since then, the Bulls have traded for former Oklahoma City starter Josh Giddey and may no longer want a guard.

Meanwhile, in the latest mock draft from ESPN, analyst Jonathan Givony had Dillingham going a bit higher to join Wembanyama on the Spurs at No. 8 overall. Here is what Givony wrote:

“Dillingham conducted his first visits of the pre-draft process this past week with San Antonio, before moving on to Detroit and also meeting with Utah. An ankle injury he suffered prior to the NBA draft combine prevented him from conducting any competitive workouts for teams.

Dillingham’s dynamic ballhandling, playmaking and shot-making prowess could be a natural fit for the Spurs with the creativity he offers in the open court and the pick-and-roll. Pairing him with a veteran mentor guard such as Chris Paul — whom Dillingham has known from a young age, having played for his grassroots EYBL team (Team CP3) — could make sense should the Golden State Warriors elect to waive Paul’s non-guaranteed contract prior to their June 28 deadline.”

According to Givony, there are several other names to watch for the Spurs, too. That includes Matas Buzelis as well as Dalton Knecht, Cody Williams, Tidjane Salaun, and Nikola Topic.

Givony added that other teams that could consider Dillingham include the Jazz (No. 10 overall) and the Heat (No. 15 overall) as well as potential trade opportunities.

Report: Houston’s Jamal Shead had predraft workout with Thunder.

The calendar has flipped to June, which means NBA teams are intensifying their predraft process and hosting players for workouts and visits. The 2024 NBA draft will take place from June 26-27.

The Oklahoma City Thunder enter this year’s class with a sole draft pick of the No. 12 selection. OKC was gifted the free lottery pick via the Houston Rockets.

The Thunder will host several meetings with draft prospects in the coming weeks. This includes players outside the lottery range as OKC will likely seek to add undrafted free agents or even buy back into the second round if it likes someone enough.

One possibility is Houston’s Jamal Shead. He had a predraft workout with the Thunder on Sunday, per Rookie Wire.

The 21-year-old played four college seasons from 2020-24 with Houston. He was a starter in his final three campaigns. The Cougars’ season ended in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Men’s Tournament.

In 37 games last season, Shead averaged 12.9 points on 40.9% shooting, 6.3 assists and 3.7 rebounds. He shot 30.9% from 3 on 3.8 attempts. At 6-foot, 200 pounds, he’s a bit small for a guard.

Shead is a potential undrafted free agent target. He has a shot to join the Thunder’s summer league squad and possibly be added to the G League’s OKC Blue for next season if he impresses enough.

The Oklahoma City Thunder enter this year’s class with a sole draft pick of the No. 12 selection. OKC was gifted the free lottery pick via the Houston Rockets.

The 19-year-old bypassed the traditional college route and spent last year in Australia with the NBL’s 36ers. He was a five-star recruit out of high school and was previously committed to Louisville.

In 18 games last season, Flowers averaged 5.2 points on 45.8% shooting, 2.9 rebounds and 0.4 assists. He shot 42.1% from 3 on 1.1 attempts. At 6-foot-9, 205 pounds, he has great size for a guard.

Flowers is a potential second-round option for the Thunder. Even though OKC doesn’t own a Day 2 selection, it can easily trade back within range if it likes him enough.

He’s likely a project and would spend much of the season with the G League’s OKC Blue. He’d be a developmental project.

Who should the San Antonio Spurs take with the No. 8 pick of the 2024 NBA draft?

Could it be Cholet Basket forward Salaun Tidjane? Or perhaps Crvena Zvezda point guard Nikola Topic?

Who should the San Antonio Spurs take with the No. 8 pick of the 2024 NBA draft? Could it be Cholet Basket forward Salaun Tidjane? Or perhaps Crvena Zvezda point guard Nikola Topic? Maybe Providence College floor general Devin Carter or University of Tennessee small forward Dalton Knecht?

We have even heard some distant rumbles of a potential drafting of University of Colorado small forward Cody Williams with the latter of the Spurs two selections in this year’s lottery (the other being San Antonio’s No. 4 pick). Or might they end up trading it away for a more established player to pair with star Spurs forward Victor Wembanyama?

Whichever way the team’s front office turns to find the right supporting cast for Wemby, there are already plenty of people with opinions about it.

Among them are the folks behind the “SSPN: A San Antonio Spurs Podcast” YouTube channel, who reviewed the options for San Antonio at No. 8. Check it out above!

New mock draft from FTW has the San Anonio Spurs taking Cholet’s Tidjane Salaun

A 6-foot-9 forward who is a frequent mock to the Spurs in range of their No. 8 pick, Salaun is just under 19 years old.

A new mock draft from our sister site For The Win that was put together by Bryan Kalbrosky has the San Antonio Spurs taking Cholet’s Tidjane Salaun in the 2024 NBA draft. A 6-foot-9 forward who is a frequent mock to the Spurs in range of their No. 8 pick, Salaun is just under 19 years old. But it might not just be his considerable potential as a player that has him on San Antonio’s radar as a potential lottery pick.

According to Kalbrosky, Salaun and star Spurs forward Victor Wembanyama “are represented by the same agency and the two have reportedly known each other since 2017.”

“Salaun has called Wembanyama an “inspiration” and … (reportedly) will work out for the Spurs,” adds Kalbrosky.

“He makes sense for San Antonio as a young and versatile forward with tremendous upside,” suggests the FTW analyst, and we can’t say that we disagree.

New FTW mock draft has San Antonio Spurs taking Stephon Castle

A popular pick in recent mocks to go in the range of the Spurs’ two lottery picks at Nos. 4 and 8, the former Husky wing is one of the best defenders in his class

A new mock draft from our sister site For The Win! put together by Bryan Kalbrosky has the San Antonio Spurs taking champion University of Connecticut combo guard Stephon Castle. A popular pick in recent mocks to go in the range of the Spurs’ two lottery picks at Nos. 4 and 8, the former Husky wing is one of the best defenders in his class, but also a bit of a project on the other end of the court when it comes to his jump shot.

Still, he can finish well at the cup, has solid floor vision, and reportedly prefers to play at the point, but it’s his defense that is the main attraction. “For a team that has an exciting future with Victor Wembanyama as a defensive anchor, they can solidify that identity by selecting Castle,” writes Kalbrosky.

“The NCAA champion and Big East Freshman of the Year allowed 0.69 points per defensive chance … which was the second-best of any player included on the latest consensus big board.”

“He also contested 75.8% of opposing jumpers,” adds the FTW analyst, which, taken together, is a fairly solid endorsement for the Spurs to take Castle.

If Zaccarie Risacher falls to No. 4, should the San Antonio Spurs draft him?

Should San Antonio’s front office take the prized prospect if he is still on the board?

The San Antonio Spurs have two picks in the 2024 NBA draft lottery at Nos. 4 and 8 overall, and rumor has it they are up to use them in any way that will put the best possible fits next to star Spurs forward Victor Wembanyama.

That of course could include one or two of the picks being used to trade for an established player, but it seems pretty likely that the Spurs will use at least one of those two picks to select a player in this year’s cohort of prospects. Among them is prized French forward Zaccharie Risacher, who is rumored to potentially fall to the Spurs range at No. 4 overall.

Should San Antonio’s front office take the prized prospect if he is still on the board?

The folks behind the “TSR Sports” YouTube channel recently did a deep dive on the possibility. Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what they had to say.
