Offensive line continuity is a focal point, but not a concern for Jets head coach Robert Saleh

The New York Jets offensive line needs time…but there is no rush.

Gelling new names and players along the offensive line will be a priority for the New York Jets throughout training camp and into preseason.

Two big pieces of the Jets line, offensive tackle Morgan Moses and guard Alijah Vera-Tucker are expected to return to the field soon. Vera-Tucker in fact returned to the field on Friday.

The Jets acquired Moses in a trade this offseason and Vera-Tucker is entering his fourth year after being a first-round pick in the 2021 NFL draft.

“I don’t want to give you a definitive day because we’re taking it day at a time, but we’re looking for next week, but it’s going to be soon,” Saleh told reporters on Thursday.

“They’re very close, very close.”

But the issue for the Jets is going to be building comfort and continuity over the next couple of weeks.

Being able to get in sync with each other and with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, is something that the Jets will need to handle during camp and preseason.

“I’m not worried about it going that long. I guess that’s why I’m kind of calm about it, but they’ll be on the field together sooner rather than later, but they’re doing all the walkthroughs together,” Saleh said.

“So, they’re out in the walkthrough and they’re going through the communication and then just those types of reps, but soon enough they’ll be out in the live reps, hoping for next week.”

Jets sign Takkarist McKinley following minicamp tryout

The Jets signed DL Takkarist McKinley following his minicamp tryout

The Jets signed defensive lineman Takkarist McKinley, the team announced Thursday. McKinley was on a tryout with the team during minicamp this week and earned a roster spot heading into training camp.

The Jets could use some extra depth along the defensive line and McKinley reportedly had a nice showing during the two-day minicamp.

McKinley is a former first-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons who had 17.5 sacks in three-plus seasons in Atlanta and has 20 career sacks.

He last appeared in a game in 2022, playing in four games with the Los Angeles Rams and also spent time on the Dallas Cowboys’ practice squad.

McKinley has also played for the Las Vegas Raiders and Cleveland Browns.

Jets likely to have joint practice with Giants during preseason

As joint practices have become all the rage across the NFL to help teams prepare for the regular season during a shortened preseason, 2024 is no exception. The Jets will likely have a joint practice this preseason with the New York Giants during the final week of the summer phase.

During an OTA media session Thursday, Giants’ head coach Brian Daboll told the media about the team’s expected plans for their joint practices, one of which include the Jets.

The teams are expected to hold one joint practice leading up to their preseason finale on Saturday, August 24.

The Jets also will have preseason games against the Washington Commanders and Carolina Panthers. It is unknown as of yet whether the Jets will have joint practices during these weeks as well. The Washington game is set for Saturday, August 10 at 12:00. The Carolina game does not have a date yet but should be somewhere between August 15-19.
