A look at recent Oklahoma Sooners offer, 3-Star DL DeAndre Cook

The Oklahoma Sooners offered 2024 DL prospect DeAndre Cook.

The Oklahoma Sooners are working to build up their defensive line as they get ready for life in the SEC. To that end, Oklahoma has offered 2024 three-star defensive lineman De’Andre Cook.

Cook is 6-foot-4 and weighs 250 pounds. He plays high school football at Friendship Collegiate Academy in Washington, DC. He appears to be a player on the rise.

He has 23 scholarship offers with 17 of those offers from Power Five schools.

When you watch Cook’s high school tape, his talent is abundantly clear. He has great burst off the line of scrimmage and he displays really good athleticism. Cook shows really good technique, which allows him to get penetration and make plays in the backfield.

Cook is a perfect fit for an aggressive defensive line that Brent Venables wants to deploy. He has room to grow, especially in the weight room, but he already stands out and would be a great fit with the Sooners.

Oklahoma offers 2024 three-star defensive end Joe Barna out Illinois.

Oklahoma has offered 2024 three-star defensive end Joe Barna out of Wheaton, Illinois. While just a three-star prospect in the cycle, Barna’s on the radar of several Power Five schools across the Midwest.

He stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs 245 pounds. He also went to Wheaton North high school in Wheaton, Illinois. Oklahoma has offered him as his recruitment seems to be picking up steam heading into the summer ahead of his final year of high school.

He has 20 total offers with nine from Power Five schools. That number is going to increase because a school like Oklahoma offered him a day after Indiana offered him. He seems to be ascending in the recruiting landscape.

He has great technique and shows flashes of athleticism. Barna shows a strong propensity for getting into the backfield and disrupting the running game. As a pass rusher, he displays good hand usage and bend. He’s a relentless rusher, who confidently takes on double teams, sets the edge well in the run game, and is a hard hitter.

2024 four-star defensive end Nigel Smith sets official visit to Oklahoma

2024 four-star defensive lineman Nigel Smith sets his visit to Oklahoma.

2024 defensive end Nigel Smith has set up six visits for his finalists. Those finalists are Rutgers, Ohio State, Penn State, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, and Texas.

Oklahoma is in a very good position to land the 6-foot-4, 264-pound defensive end out of Melissa, Texas.

The Sooners officially offered Smith on January 27, 2022, and Bates has been the main catalyst in his recruitment. Smith attended Oklahoma’s Junior on January 28. Nothing is official yet, but On3’s recruiting prediction machine has the Sooners leading the way.

When you watch Nigel Smith’s Hudl, he jumps off the screen immediately. He has great speed off the edge for his size, and his strength also stands out. He’s athletic and explosive off the line and displays fantastic closing speed in pursuit.

Oklahoma should feel very confident about where they stand with Smith. He’s the type of player that Brent Venables wants on his defensive line. His versatility will give him the opportunity to contribute on the edge and as a three-technique defensive tackle, where his quickness and agility will give interior offensive linemen fits.

Oklahoma Sooners predicted to land Xadavien Sims by On3

An On3 prediction favors the Oklahoma Sooners in the recruitment of 4-star DL prospect Xadavien Sims out of Durant, Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma Sooners have been working to build a defensive line that can compete when they get into the SEC. One of the guys they’ve been pursuing is four-star defensive lineman [autotag]Xadavien Sims[/autotag] out of Durant, Oklahoma.

A recent prediction from SoonerScoop’s Josh McCuistion seems to indicate the tide is turning in Sims’ recruitment.

This signals a significant shift in the recruiting buzz surrounding Sims. Michigan State was seen as the favorite for a while, with early predictions having Sims heading to East Lansing.

Sims is a beast of a player on the defensive line. He’s 6 feet, 4 inches and weighs 280 pounds. He’ll only continue to refine his game and add strength to his frame when he gets to college.

Sims would be a huge get for Brent Venables, Todd Bates and the Sooners. They’ve made an emphasis on recruiting the state of Oklahoma, and Sims represents one of the best players in the state.

When you watch Sims on tape, his athleticism really stands out, especially at his weight. He has really good technique and jumps off the screen every time the ball is snapped with his burst off the line of scrimmage.

Michigan State is still hanging firm in Sims’ recruitment, but the Sooners seem to be closing the gap or taking the lead for the prominent defensive lineman from the Sooner State.

Oklahoma will have to contend with Michigan State, Oregon, TCU and Vanderbilt, who were included in Xadavien Sims’ top five that was released the other day. However, given the track record of production from defensive linemen under Venables, the Sooners are in a great spot to land one of the most talented defensive line prospects in the [autotag]2024 recruiting class[/autotag].

Xadavien Sims includes Sooners in top 5, announces commitment date

2024 four-star DL Xadavien Sims drops his top 5, including the Oklahoma Sooners and announced an upcoming commitment date.

When Brent Venables returned to Oklahoma, he made it a priority to recruit the state well and has the Sooners well-positioned to land one of the top players in the Sooner State.

Four-star defensive lineman Xadavien Sims announced the top five teams at this point in his recruitment. Sims included the Oklahoma Sooners, TCU Horned Frogs, Michigan State Spartans, and Oregon Ducks.

On Wednesday, Sims announced that he plans to commit on May 20 at C4 Sports Oklahoma’s Pro Day in Durant.

Though the Sooners are in a good spot for the No. 2 player in the state of Oklahoma, their biggest competitors to land a commitment from Sims appear to be the Michigan State Spartans and the Oregon Ducks.

Sims has incredible burst off the snap, using great strength and quickness to get into the backfield. He’s relentless in pursuit and does a great job working up the line of scrimmage to cut down on running lanes.

If Oklahoma were to land Sims, it would be a great start to what could be a great defensive line class for the Sooners.

Oklahoma Sooners offer 2024 4-Star DL Charleston Collins

The Oklahoma Sooners issued an offer to 2024 four-star DL Charleston Collins on Saturday.

The Sooners 2024 recruiting efforts are picking up steam as they head east of the Ouachita Mountains to Little Rock in their latest pursuit. On Saturday, they issued an offer to 2024 four-star defensive lineman Charleston Collins.

Collins is a powerfully disruptive player from the defensive interior. He’s able to win with a bull rush and has the quickness and athleticism to scoot past offensive linemen. He can be deployed as a three-technique defensive tackle, lined up between the tackle and the guard, in four-man fronts, or as a defensive end (five-technique) in a three-man front.

The Sooners will have a tough battle on their hands in this recruitment. LSU looks to have the early lead for Collins, but he’s also being pursued by Alabama, Georgia, Penn State, Tennessee, Michigan State, and Texas A&M. One wildcard is Colorado. Not a defensive line destination, but Deion Sanders has the gravitational pull to begin to make it such.

Charleston Collins’ Recruiting Profile

Projections

  • Only two Rivals Futurecasts have been submitted, and both favor LSU.
  • On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has LSU as the prohibitive favorite to land Charleston Collins.
  • 247Sports analysts are split on where Charelston Collins will land. The most recent predictions from November favor LSU.

Oklahoma Sooners extend offer to 2024 4-star DL Omar White

The Oklahoma Sooners extended a scholarship offer to 2024 four-star defensive tackle Omar White out of Georgia.

The Oklahoma Sooners had a busy weekend on the recruiting trail, extending offers to several players, including 2024 four-star defensive lineman Omar White.

White is a top 20 player at his position and lands inside the top 157 according to On3, 247Sports, and ESPN.

Omar White played up and down the defensive line in Lee County’s three-man front. He has the strength to be an effective player as both a nose tackle and a 3-4 defensive end. He utilizes a strong bull rush to set the edge when lined up as a defensive end, and it’s an effective pass rush move when lined up over the center.

White’s quickness off the snap jumps off the screen, especially when lined up as the nose tackle. White employs an excellent swim move and does a great job working through the “A-gap” between the guard and the center to get into the backfield. White does a great job in backside pursuit when the run is going away from him.

While he’s shown to be a versatile defensive lineman in high school, his best spot is at defensive tackle. As he continues to develop his strength, agility, and quickness, he could play either the 1-technique or 3-technique defensive tackle spots in Brent Venables’ defense.

Oklahoma Sooners offer 2024 defensive lineman Kavion Henderson out of Alabama

The Oklahoma Sooners offered 2024 defensive lineman Kavion Henderson out of Leeds, Alabama.

The Oklahoma Sooners are hosting the first of two junior days in March this weekend in Norman. While the juniors step to the forefront this weekend, Oklahoma’s defensive line coaches Todd Bates (defensive tackles) and Miguel Chavis (defensive ends) have been putting in work with the 2024 class.

The latest offer goes out to defensive lineman Kavion Henderson out of Leeds, Ala. Henderson played primarily on the edge for Leeds and was a disruptive player as a stand-up rusher or with his hand in the dirt.

Henderson displays good play strength, often pushing the tackle back into the play. He’s quick off the snap to engage the blocker but diagnoses the play quickly and works down the line on dive plays or maintains leverage on wide runs to his side of the field.

Whether taking on one or two blockers, Henderson is a disciplined player, showing good gap integrity, pursuit ability, and will chase down plays when he’s well out of the action.

He’s a physical player that will try to punish his opponent. He tackles a bit high too regularly, but because he’s so physically dominating, he doesn’t have to tackle with leverage. Though he may tackle around the chest and shoulders, he consistently wraps up the ball carrier to drive them to the ground.

Even as a sophomore, Henderson has a lot of tools that will make whichever school he decides to play his college ball at very happy. It’s still early in the 2024 cycle, so Henderson hasn’t been rated yet, but based on early returns, he’ll likely start the cycle as a four-star player.
