New mock draft from FTW has the San Anonio Spurs taking Cholet’s Tidjane Salaun

A 6-foot-9 forward who is a frequent mock to the Spurs in range of their No. 8 pick, Salaun is just under 19 years old.

A new mock draft from our sister site For The Win that was put together by Bryan Kalbrosky has the San Antonio Spurs taking Cholet’s Tidjane Salaun in the 2024 NBA draft. A 6-foot-9 forward who is a frequent mock to the Spurs in range of their No. 8 pick, Salaun is just under 19 years old. But it might not just be his considerable potential as a player that has him on San Antonio’s radar as a potential lottery pick.

According to Kalbrosky, Salaun and star Spurs forward Victor Wembanyama “are represented by the same agency and the two have reportedly known each other since 2017.”

“Salaun has called Wembanyama an “inspiration” and … (reportedly) will work out for the Spurs,” adds Kalbrosky.

“He makes sense for San Antonio as a young and versatile forward with tremendous upside,” suggests the FTW analyst, and we can’t say that we disagree.

New FTW mock draft has San Antonio Spurs taking Stephon Castle

A popular pick in recent mocks to go in the range of the Spurs’ two lottery picks at Nos. 4 and 8, the former Husky wing is one of the best defenders in his class

A new mock draft from our sister site For The Win! put together by Bryan Kalbrosky has the San Antonio Spurs taking champion University of Connecticut combo guard Stephon Castle. A popular pick in recent mocks to go in the range of the Spurs’ two lottery picks at Nos. 4 and 8, the former Husky wing is one of the best defenders in his class, but also a bit of a project on the other end of the court when it comes to his jump shot.

Still, he can finish well at the cup, has solid floor vision, and reportedly prefers to play at the point, but it’s his defense that is the main attraction. “For a team that has an exciting future with Victor Wembanyama as a defensive anchor, they can solidify that identity by selecting Castle,” writes Kalbrosky.

“The NCAA champion and Big East Freshman of the Year allowed 0.69 points per defensive chance … which was the second-best of any player included on the latest consensus big board.”

“He also contested 75.8% of opposing jumpers,” adds the FTW analyst, which, taken together, is a fairly solid endorsement for the Spurs to take Castle.

If Zaccarie Risacher falls to No. 4, should the San Antonio Spurs draft him?

Should San Antonio’s front office take the prized prospect if he is still on the board?

The San Antonio Spurs have two picks in the 2024 NBA draft lottery at Nos. 4 and 8 overall, and rumor has it they are up to use them in any way that will put the best possible fits next to star Spurs forward Victor Wembanyama.

That of course could include one or two of the picks being used to trade for an established player, but it seems pretty likely that the Spurs will use at least one of those two picks to select a player in this year’s cohort of prospects. Among them is prized French forward Zaccharie Risacher, who is rumored to potentially fall to the Spurs range at No. 4 overall.

Should San Antonio’s front office take the prized prospect if he is still on the board?

The folks behind the “TSR Sports” YouTube channel recently did a deep dive on the possibility. Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what they had to say.

How would Reed Sheppard fit next to San Antonio Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama?

Sheppard can hit the 3-ball, and maybe better than anyone else in this draft.

How would University of Kentucky guard Reed Sheppard fit next to San Antonio Spurs star forward Victor Wembanyama? The 20-year-old former Wildcat has been mocked in range of the Spurs pair of lottery picks in the 2024 NBA draft (at Nos. 4 and 8 overall), and has trended more towards 4 than 8.

While his shorter stature at just 6-foot-2 might make him a bit of a defensive liability on most teams, with Wemby playing with him, he could thrive knowing he has a safety new behind him. One thing Sheppard can do is hit the 3-ball, and maybe better than anyone else in this draft.

Is that enough to say he’d be a good fit with Wembanyama?

San Antonio Spurs 2024 NBA draft prospect spotlight: Is Ron Holland a good fit?

Holland is projected to go closer to the end of the lottery, and San Antonio could safely gamble that he would be there at No. 8.

Is Ron Holland II a good fit for the San Antonio Spurs to use one of their two lottery picks on in the 2024 NBA draft set to kick off this coming Wednesday (June 26) night? Armed with not only the No. 4 overall pick of the draft, but No. 8 as well, the Spurs would have two likely passes to nab the G League Ignite wing given where he is projected to be taken.

And given Holland is projected to go closer to the end of the lottery, San Antonio could safely gamble that he would be there at No. 8 should they have their eye on another prospect earlier in the draft. They might even be able to trade down to get him should another team want to move up in the standings to get a prospect sliding unexpectedly.

The host of the “Locked On Spurs” podcast, Jeff Garcia, sat down with guest Jack Thompson to talk it over on a recent episode. Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what they had to say.

How would Tennessee wing Dalton Knecht fit next to the San Antonio Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama?

Knecht, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard and small forward who can shoot the lights out on volume, is a fairly safe bet.

How would University of Tennessee wing Dalton Knecht fit next to the San Antonio Spurs‘ star forward, Victor Wembanyama? The question of fit next to Wemby is the defining issue for the ball club trying to build the right supporting cast around a truly generational talent.

Knecht, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard and small forward who can shoot the lights out on volume, is a fairly safe bet in that regard, given players of his archetype can fit in pretty much anywhere. And seeing as the Spurs were among the worst 3-point shooting teams in the league last season, it is safe to say that the Spurs could use his kind of help.

The folks behind the “SSPN: A San Antonio Spurs Podcast” YouTube channel recently took some time to weigh in on his fit with the Spurs.

Which of the paths available to San Antonio’s front office makes the most sense?

Scouting Stephon Castle’s fit with the San Antonio Spurs

Is the fit for San Antonio a good one?

The San Antonio Spurs have reportedly been interested in using one of their 2024 NBA draft lottery picks on champion University of Connecticut combo guard Stephon Castle. The former Husky reportedly wants to play more point guard in the NBA, and the Spurs have a need at that position.

So which of the two draft picks make more sense to actually land Castle if they do believe in his game, and is the fit for San Antonio a good one? Or might the Spurs find a better option in this draft or via trade to surround star San Antonio forward Victor Wembanyama?

The host of the “Locked On Spurs” podcast, Jeff Garcia, recently took a closer look at Castle as a Spurs draft prospect with guest Jack Thompson, formerly with San Antonio Sports Star, on a recent episode.

What should the San Antonio Spurs do with their second round picks?

The Spurs are drafting a pair of picks in the second round of the draft at Nos. 35 and 48 overall.

So far, ahead of the 2024 NBA draft, the lion’s share of media attention on what the San Antonio Spurs are going to do with their two lottery picks at Nos. 4 and 8 has rightfully been focused on those high-value selections.

But the Spurs are also drafting a pair of picks in the second round of the draft at Nos. 35 and 48 overall. What sort of help can the Spurs front office find to surround star Spurs forward Victor Wembanyama with at those deeper points in the draft? Should they be using those picks as sweeteners for trades? And if not, what specific players of interest ought San Antonio fans be looking for in this cohort?

The folks behind the “SSPN: A San Antonio Spurs Podcast” YouTube channel recently put together a deep dive into the Spurs’ second round options for this summer’s draft.

Stephon Castle’s fit with the San Antonio Spurs at point guard

Is this a potential match for the Spurs and Castle?

The rap on University of Connecticut combo guard Stephon Castle ahead of the 2024 NBA draft is that he wants to play point guard at the NBA level. The San Antonio Spurs are also reportedly on the hunt for one, but is this a potential match for the Spurs and Castle?

On one hand, Castle is still fairly raw offensively with an unproven jumper and little experience playing as a floor general. But on the other hand, he also defends as well as any backcourt player in this draft, and has the size and length to play up to small forward.

To take stock of his fit with San Antonio ahead of the big day coming up in a little less than a week now, the folks behind the “SSPN: A San Antonio Spurs Podcast” YouTube channel took a closer look at Castle.

Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what they had to say.
