What are the most anticipated Boston Celtics games of the 2024-25 NBA season?

There are a lot of games one could choose to hold up as the most anticipated contests of the season.

What are the most anticipated Boston Celtics games of the 2024-25 NBA season? Opening night against the new-look New York Knicks? Their Christmas Day tilt vs. a stronger Philadelphia 76ers roster? Or maybe it is their Martin Luther King Day game, or one of their tilts in the newly-renamed NBA Cup.

There are a lot of games one could choose to hold up as the most anticipated contests of the season, even excluding the usual rematch with their finals opponent in the Dallas Mavericks. Old rivalries with the Los Angeles Lakers, and newer ones against the Miami Heat and Golden State Warriors are also options to pick from.

The hosts of the CLNS Media “Cedric Maxwell” podcast, the eponymous Cedric Maxwell and his co-host Josue Pavon, took a closer look on a recent episode. Check it out below!

Reacting to the San Antonio Spurs getting 21 national TV games for the 2024-25 season

It’s not hard to get why interest is piqued in the Spurs.

There is something afoot in the state of Texas, with the San Antonio Spurs making some significant changes to their roster to boost the level of help rising star forward Victor Wembanyama has around him for the 2024-25 NBA season ahead.

And after watching Wemby not only win the league’s Rookie of the Year award but to make All-Defensive First Team and then come in second in Defensive Player of the Year voting, it’s not hard to get why interest is piqued in the Spurs. And that interest has been reflected in the league electing to give San Antonio a total of 21 games that will be broadcast on national television for the 2024-25 regular season.

The folks behind the “TSR Sports” YouTube channel recently put together a clip looking into the Spurs’ schedule for the 2024-25 season ahead, the national TV game boost and more.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear what they had to say about all things schedules and San Antonio.

Are the Boston Celtics still being overlooked by the NBA and opposing teams?

There’s a case to be made the Celtics are STILL being overlooked.

Are the Boston Celtics still being overlooked by the NBA and opposing teams? As the reigning NBA champions (it feels so good to write that), the Celtics are the team to beat heading into the 2024-25 regular season. So when it comes to why other ball clubs should not overlook Boston, it ought to go without saying.

But with plenty of Olympic snubs still fresh in their memory, critics decrying the quality of teams on the way to that title, and even the league granting clubs like the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors more national TV games, there’s a case to be made the Celtics are STILL being overlooked.

And if you ask Bleacher Report league analyst Dan Favale, he would likely tell you that makes no sense at all. “Relative to the rest of the field, (sportsbooks) have the Boston Celtics billed as heavy favorites to repeat as champions,” he reminds us in a recent article. “Because, well, duh.”

“It would be far more challenging to come up with reasons we should overlook the Celtics,” he adds. “They don’t exist.”

“(…) Unless you think Jayson Tatum’s body will be irreparably fatigued from barely playing on Team USA, the Celtics should be considered the team to beat—and, by extension, cannot be one you even think about ignoring.”

Why teams should not overlook the San Antonio Spurs next season

Competent point guard play and real NBA depth — there may be plenty of good reasons for opponents to stay en garde.

Recently, we asked our readers to explore whether other ball clubs in the NBA might overlook the San Antonio Spurs on the court next season. But Bleacher Report league analyst Dan Favale recently made the case as to why other teams should not make that mistake.

In a recent survey of the Association, Favale highlighted some of the reasons why overlooking a respective team might come back to bite an opposing squad. And when it comes to the Spurs next season, the growth of star French forward Victor Wembanyama in his second year in the league is just one part of the equation.

Add in competent point guard play and real NBA depth, and there may be plenty of good reasons for opponents to stay en garde in the coming 2024-25 season.

Noting the Spurs “now have 48 minutes or so of strong point guard play following the addition of Chris Paul,” the B/R expert writes that putting “so much value to the arrival of a 39-year-old verges on bonkers in most cases,” and that this is clearly an exception to that dictum.

“Wemby entered the All-NBA periphery as a rookie,” he adds. “There’s no telling how high he will rise in Year 2. Wrong answers seemingly don’t exist.(…) Forecasting a playoff chase for the Spurs feels a touch premature. Then again, is it really?

Former Boston point guard Jeff Teague thinks Celtics fans should thank Steve Kerr for benching Jayson Tatum

If it provides the sort of motivation Teague seems to think it will, we probably ought to.

For some fans of the Boston Celtics, the dual benching of star forward Jayson Tatum was nearly a personal affront. For others — including Celtics alumni — such a snub is only going to be fuel for future Boston greatness. And among the latter category, we can count former Celtics floor general Jeff Teague.

Teague opened up about how he saw Tatum’s benching on a recent episode of his “Club 520” podcast, even going so far as to suggest the St. Louis native’s participation with Team USA for the 2028 Olympics might be in jeopardy. “Tatum, bro, he’s done with the Olympics,” said the former Boston point guard via Basketball Network’s Yakshpat Bhargava.

“They just ruined everything for the NBA now, the USA team did,” he added. “Now you tell Jayson Tatum that he is the worst player out of all the elites.”

“The only player to make the All-NBA First team, the rest others were all Europeans, and you all (are) telling me I can’t compete against Serbia?” asked Teague. ” … He couldn’t get him five minutes? I’m never going to be okay with that. But if you’re Boston Celtics fans, you all should be thanking USA basketball.”

If it provides the sort of motivation Teague seems to think it will, we probably ought to.

Will San Antonio Spurs star forward Victor Wembanyama take the biggest leap forward in the NBA after the Olympics?

Who will take the biggest leap forward in the NBA after the Olympics?

The 2024 Paris Olympics are now firmly behind us after the US National Team defeated the French National Team and San Antonio Spurs star forward Victor Wembanyama. But Wemby warned the world he plans on coming back better and more seasoned, hinting at a major leap forward on the court with the Spurs in the Association for the 2024-25 season ahead.

Who will take the biggest leap forward in the NBA after the Olympics? Could the benching of star Boston Celtics forward Jayson Tatum with Team USA be the catalyst to make Tatum take that mantle next season? Or is 2028 Olympic basketball the future domain of Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards?

The hosts of the ESPN “First Take” show, Harry Douglas, Joe Fortenbaugh and Kendrick Perkins, debated who will grow the most next season in the NBA. Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what they had to say.

Shams: Boston Celtics’ opponents for season opener, rematches with Dallas Mavericks revealed

We just learned a little more about the Boston Celtics’ slate of regular season games for the looming 2024-25 season.

There may not be all that much going on in terms of men’s basketball now that the 2024 Paris Olympics are over, but that does not mean that the NBA news cycle is ready to take some time off. To that end, we just learned a little more about the Boston Celtics‘ slate of regular season games for the looming 2024-25 season from the Athletic’s Shams Charania.

Per Charania, we now know who the Celtics will face on opening night as they get their rings for the 2024 NBA title they won at the end of the 2024 NBA Playoffs. That ball club would be the new-look New York Knicks, which Boston will face on opening night on October 22 on TNT, with Boston of course hosting.

The Celtics and their fans also learned when Boston will face their opponent in the 2024 NBA Finals in the league’s 2024-25 regular season.

Boston is slated to face the Dallas Mavericks twice next season. The first tilt will be a road game against the Mavs on January 25, and the second of two will be at TD Garden on February 6.

Will other NBA teams overlook the San Antonio Spurs next season?

Will San Antonio’s new-look roster be discounted by their opponents in 2024-25?

Will other NBA teams overlook the San Antonio Spurs next season? The Spurs front office undoubtedly made the team a better one with the moves they made in the league’s 2024 free agency period, adding former Golden state Warriors vet Chris Paul to the team’s roster.

San Antonio also did well on the trade market, picking up veteran swingman Harrison Ingram for a song from the Sacramento Kings. And they did well in the 2024 NBA draft as well, picking up University of Connecticut guard Stephon Castle, University of North Carolina forward Harrison Ingram, and Ratiopharm Ulm guard Juan Nunez.

But after the Spurs whiffed (along with the Warriors) on trading for star Utah Jazz forward Lauri Markkanen, how this team will play is less clear. Will San Antonio’s new-look roster be discounted by their opponents in 2024-25?

The host of the “Locked On Spurs” podcast, Jeff Garcia, sat down with “Generation Duo” host Brandon Medina to talk it over on an episode of his show. Check it out above!
