Who should the San Antonio Spurs select at No. 4 overall in the 2024 NBA draft?

Whoever San Antonio takes, the hope is that it is an ideal fit with rising San Antonio star forward Victor Wembanyama

Who should the San Antonio Spurs select at No. 4 overall in the 2024 NBA draft? The better of the Spurs’ two lottery picks in this summer’s big event might end up being traded away for an established player. Or it could be packaged with another pick or player to move up in the draft if there is an ideal target San Antonio’s front office has in mind.

But if the Spurs do take a player with the pick, it could be either of UConn alumni Donovan Clingan and Stephon Castle, JL Bourg’s Zaccharie Risacher, University of Kentucky’s Reed Sheppard, Perth’s Alexandre Sarr, or maybe even Red Star’s Nikola Topic.

Whoever San Antonio takes, the hope is that it is an ideal fit with rising San Antonio star forward Victor Wembanyama.

What would a successful season for the San Antonio Spurs look like in 2024-25?

Do the Spurs need to make the play-in tournament? Or even the playoffs?

After one of the longest stretches in decades of the San Antonio Spurs missing the postseason, fans of the team expect a movement toward making the playoffs if not a postseason berth outright in the coming season.

But when one gets down to the proverbial brass tacks of what a successful season for the Spurs could end up looking like, it gets harder to say exactly what success looks like at this stage of a rebuild with a generational talent on the roster in Victor Wembanyama. Does a successful season mean adding a handful of wins to the regular season total while adding to and developing the young roster? Do the Spurs need to make the play-in tournament? Or even the playoffs?

To talk it over, the host of the “Locked On Spurs” podcast, Jeff Garcia, sat down with “Sweep The League” host Rudy Campos.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear what they had to say.

Can San Antonio Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama be the NBA’s best player in year two?

We have seen such rapid growth from Wemby that it is not an absurd question to ask.

Can the San Antonio Spurs’ star French forward Victor Wembanyama be the NBA’s best player in year two of his career in the league? On one hand, this is a tall order for the San Antonio big man to live up to if ever there was one. On the other, we have seen such rapid growth from Wemby that it is not an absurd question to ask, either.

After entering the Association a bit sloppy on defense, Wembanyama quickly got up to speed on the defensive end of the court, picking up All-Defensive First Team honors on the way to earning second place in the Defensive Player of the Year vote.

Did we mention he won Rookie of the Year as well? So you can see why a similar leap might actually have him in the best-player debate.

Celtics assistant coach Charles Lee hired as next Charlotte Hornets head coach: Woj

The Celtics assistant “will complete the Celtics’ playoff run before moving over to join the Hornets on a full-time basis.”

Boston Celtics assistant coach Charles Lee will soon be the head coach of his own team, according to recent reporting from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Per Woj, Lee has been hired by the Charlotte Hornets to be their next head coach, replacing their current coach, Steve Clifford, as the latter moves into a front office role.

The Celtics assistant will get a four-year contract, but “will complete the Celtics’ playoff run before moving over to join the Hornets on a full-time basis” according to the ESPN reporter. “Lee started his coaching career in 2012 at Bucknell, where he had been the Patriot League Player of the Year in his senior season of 2006.”

“After playing two years of international professional basketball, Lee joined (Mike) Budenholzer’s staff with the (Atlanta) Hawks in 2014 before moving to the (Milwaukee) Bucks in 2018 and the Celtics last summer,” adds Woj.
