BREAKING: Five-star defensive back commits to LSU

The Tigers’ 2023 class just keeps getting better.

[autotag]Javien Toviano[/autotag] is a five-star, 6-foot, 185-pound safety from Arlington, Texas, where he plays for Martin High School. On Thursday, the Tigers got some big news as he announced his commitment to LSU.

Coach Brian Kelly’s team arrived on the scene late for Toviano but made a huge difference for him, and in the end, he chose LSU. It had received two Crystal Ball predictions and the Tigers were the 93% favorite to land him per On3.

Toviano becomes the seventh defensive back that has committed to LSU for the 2023 class, a class that ranked as the No. 8 class in the country coming into today. This commitment could catapult LSU into the top five. LSU is likely not done with commitments either as five-star cornerback [autotag]Desmond Ricks[/autotag] is set to commit on Dec. 22. LSU has been the favorite for Ricks for a while.

Talk about reloading your secondary, Kelly could sign eight defensive backs in this year’s recruiting class. The future looks bright on the Bayou.

BREAKING: 2023 tight end Jackson McGohan commits to LSU

McGohan becomes the second tight end commit in LSU’s class and 24th player overall.

LSU entered the game late for three-star tight end [autotag]Jackson McGohan[/autotag] from Miamisburg, Ohio, but they came on very strong. On Tuesday, McGohan announced his commitment to the Tigers.

McGohan plays for Miamisburg High School. The Vikings finished the 2022 season 4-6. After offering McGohan on Nov. 29, LSU brought him in for a visit on Dec. 10 to show him a day in the life of an LSU Tiger.

The Tigers have been trending as the favorite for McGohan ever since they offered him. They received two crystal ball projections (one on Dec. 5 and one on Dec. 11) and they were the favorite to land him at 97% per On3.

McGohan becomes the 24th commit of the 2023 class and the second tight end of the class, joining Mac Markway from St. Louis, Missouri. The early signing period begins on Dec. 21, so we could see a lot of these guys sign their names on the dotted line very soon.

It could be a December to remember for LSU recruiting.

BREAKING: LSU flips 2023 edge rusher from Ragin’ Cajuns

Dylan Carpenter flipped his commitment from Louisiana after spending the weekend in Baton Rouge for the win over Alabama.

Even with a top-four class in 2023, coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] is not done yet.

On Sunday night, [autotag]Dylan Carpenter[/autotag] flipped his commitment from Louisiana to LSU after spending Saturday night in Baton Rouge and watching the Tigers beat Alabama in overtime.

Carpenter — a three-star prospect who is ranked as the No. 562 player in the country, per the 247Sports Composite — becomes the 25th commitment as early signing day approaches next month. He is a six-foot-four, 245-pound edge rusher from Saint Amant, Louisiana, where he plays for St. Amant High School. The Gators had a rough season this fall as they went 4-6 overall and 0-4 in district play.

Kelly has done nothing but wins this weekend as his team defeated Alabama, resulting in two commitments, and may get another shortly in [autotag]Javien Toviano[/autotag]. LSU has a chance to lock themselves into the SEC title game with a win over Arkansas this weekend and an Alabama win over Ole Miss.

Four-star offensive tackle DJ Chester commits to LSU, bumps 2023 class into top five

The top-150 prospect’s pledge moved the Tigers’ recruiting class up to No. 4 in the nation.

The Tigers aren’t done yet when it comes to adding players to their 2023 recruiting class, and now they boast a group of players that ranks in the top five nationally.

On Thursday morning, LSU picked up an absolutely massive commitment from four-star Eagles Landing Christian Academy (McDonough, Ga.) offensive tackle [autotag]DJ Chester[/autotag]. He becomes the fourth offensive line commitment in the class, joining [autotag]Zalance Heard[/autotag], [autotag]Tyree Adams[/autotag] and [autotag]Paul Mubenga[/autotag].

The Tigers had long been seen as the favorite for Chester, who ranks as the No. 13 offensive tackle and No. 138 overall player in the 2023 recruiting class. He’s also a top-10 prospect in the state of Georgia.

Chester’s addition bumps LSU’s 24-man 2023 recruiting class into the No. 4 spot on the 247Sports Composite Rankings behind just Alabama, Georgia and Notre Dame and just ahead of Ohio State and Texas. On3, meanwhile, kept the Tigers at No. 5 following Chester’s pledge.

LSU could see its class rise in the rankings even more as it remains in the running for a couple of five stars in [autotag]Desmond Ricks[/autotag] and [autotag]Nyckoles Harbor[/autotag]. It is also the favorite for [autotag]Javien Toviano[/autotag], a top-100 cornerback from Texas.

LSU flips 2023 linebacker from Baylor

LSU picked up its 23rd commitment in 2023 on Wednesday from recently offered linebacker Christian Brathwaite.

It’s been a bit of a quiet month on the recruiting trail, but coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] is closing things off by completing a flip.

On Wednesday, the Tigers secured a commitment from Cy Ranch (Cypress, Texas) linebacker [autotag]Christian Brathwaite[/autotag]. The three-star prospect was previously committed to Baylor, pledging to the Bears back in January and taking an official visit to Waco in June.

However, Brathwaite picked up an offer from the Tigers on Tuesday, and LSU received several Crystal Ball projections from 247Sports to land him the same day. On Wednesday morning, he made the flip official and committed to the Tigers.

Brathwaite ranks as the No. 464 overall player and No. 40 safety in the country, per the 247Sports Composite. His addition puts LSU’s 2023 class at 23 overall commitments, though it still ranks No. 7 in the country.

LSU deemed a recruiting winner in September

The Tigers only landed one pledge in September, but it was quality over quantity.

LSU coach [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] had a bit of a slow start in the 2023 recruiting class, but things really started to heat up toward the end of the summer. After fantastic strides in July and August, the Tigers’ class ranked in the top 10.

September wasn’t as flashy on the recruiting trail, as LSU only landed one commitment. But it was quality over quantity, as it secured a commitment from in-state offensive tackle [autotag]Zalance Heard[/autotag], who is rated as a five-star recruit by On3, on Sept. 1.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise, then, that On3’s Keegan Pope deemed LSU one of its winners from the month of September when it comes to recruiting.

On3 Consensus Team Ranking: No. 6
August Commitments: 1
Avg. Rating Per Commit: 95.43

After massive months in July and August, which featured a combined 15 commitments, LSU slowed down a bit in September. But few pledges will be bigger — literally or figuratively — than On3 five-star offensive tackle Zalance Heard. The Tigers were long considered the favorites, but did have to hold off overtures from some other programs. After landing top-40 offensive lineman Will Campbell last cycle, the team’s current starting tackle, Brian Kelly and Co. have added another cornerstone offensive lineman with Heard.

Kelly already has a phenomenal class in his first full recruiting cycle, thanks to commitments like Heard’s. But the Tigers are still vying for several players who are uncommitted or pledged elsewhere. If they can land a few of them, this class could be an elite one.

LSU running back commit breaks Louisiana All-Time rushing record

Trey Holly is the new all-time high school leading rusher in the Pelican State.

Heading into the Union Parish Farmers’ fourth game of the 2022 season, 2023 Tigers commit [autotag]Trey Holly[/autotag] was 247 yards shy of Nick Brossette’s state career record of 8,704 yards that he set at University Lab from 2010-14.

In the Farmers’ 62-12 win over the Bastrop Rams, Holly ran for over 250 yards to break the record. His journey to breaking the record started in the eighth grade as he ran for 849 yards in his first varsity season. He followed that up with a 1,638-yard season as a freshman and a combined 5,342 yards and 77 touchdowns in his sophomore and junior seasons.

To celebrate the record, Holly rushed over to his family in the endzone to give them the ball he carried to break the record and to celebrate the huge accomplishment.

With at least six more games in his senior campaign, how many yards will Holly finish with? Will his record ever be broken? That remains to be seen, as for now, he will celebrate holding the record.

WATCH: Tigers QB commit Rickie Collins shows off his athleticism

The Tigers’ potential quarterback of the future can create plays with his mobility.

[autotag]Rickie Collins[/autotag] is a four-star, 6-foot-2 quarterback from Woodlawn High School in Baton Rouge. He is the Tigers’ only quarterback commit of the 2023 class, and he could be the next great signal-caller for LSU.

In this play, he shows off his athleticism as he evades a would-be sack to deliver a dart on the run to his receiver down the sideline for a big gain. Woodlawn would still fall to Lafayette Christian Academy 33-12.

Next season, LSU will probably have a huge competition at the quarterback position as [autotag]Jayden Daniels[/autotag] will have on more year eligibility, and he’ll be joined in the quarterback room by [autotag]Garrett Nussmeier[/autotag], Walker Howard, and Collins.

So, we could be looking at the quarterback of the future for LSU, but only time will tell.

WATCH: LSU commit Trey Holly takes off on another long touchdown run

Holly has been a human highlight reel to start his senior season.

This is how you finish a run with authority.

[autotag]Trey Holly[/autotag] takes off on a long touchdown run for the Union Parish Farmers and absolutely obliterates a defender as he crosses the goal line. This clip fully displays his speed, vision, and strength.

This run helped lead Union Parish to a 26-22 win over the Airline Vikings. That makes the Farmers 2-0 so far this season. Holly is a five-foot-seven, 177-pound running back that is currently ranked as a four-star recruit by multiple recruiting sites.

He chose to commit to LSU over Auburn, Arkansas, Florida State, Oregon, and USC. [autotag]Brian Kelly[/autotag] and the LSU Tigers are getting ready to host the Southern Jaguars on Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. CT from Death Valley as the Tigers look to bounce back after a season-opening loss to the Florida State Seminoles.

LSU will continue to try and iron out some of the challenges that come with bringing in a brand new coaching staff.

WATCH: LSU running back commit is a one-man wrecking ball

Good luck bringing down Kaleb Jackson.

[autotag]Kaleb Jackson[/autotag] is a four-star running back commit from the 2023 class for LSU. He measures 5-foot-10 and 200 pounds. As a junior, he helped Liberty Magnet to a 9-2 record and a Louisiana Division II second-round playoff appearance.

He gained more than 2,400 yards from scrimmage and scored 33 total touchdowns, eclipsing 2,000 rushing yards on 14.7 yards per carry. Fast forward to his senior year, and this is how he is playing now.

In the words of Lebron James, “Not one, not two, not three, not four, not five.” Equate that to the number of defenders it takes to bring Jackson down on this play. The big man rumbles through five defenders before a sixth guy finally brings him down just short of the goal line.

Even with this tremendous effort, Liberty Magnet still lost the game 18-13 to Southern Lab. The future looks bright for this running back when he comes to LSU next season. He and [autotag]Trey Holly[/autotag] will make a formidable duo.
