Newest LSU WR commit Shelton Sampson Jr. inks NIL deal

Recent LSU commit inks NIL deal.

After an April vote by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association, Louisiana high school athletes can now profit off their NIL deals. According to on3.com, Sampson has a NIL evaluation of $254K, which ranks No. 26 in on3’s high school NIL rankings.

When Sampson committed to LSU on The Jordy Culotta Show, he was asked why he chose to stay home in Baton Rouge to play for LSU. His response? “Why not?” That quote sparked the idea for a logo on his first merch drop with Elete Sports.

The clothing line goes by the tag “SS6” which stands for “Shelton Sampson 6” six is his high school number at Catholic. Sampson is rated as a five-star wide receiver by the 247sports composite rankings. I am not certain if he will wear No. 6 during his time at LSU, but it would certainly help his brand if he could.

I am sure Brian Kelly could make something happen for the highest-ranked wide receiver recruit for the Tigers since Kayshon Boutte in 2020.

Five-star wide receiver Jalen Hale has LSU in the mix

Five-star WR from Longview has LSU in the mix.

Some good news to report on the recruiting front. Five-star wide receiver Jalen Hale from Longview, Texas, has released his top 12 schools. Hale has the LSU Tigers along with Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M of the SEC among his top schools. Future SEC team Texas was also mentioned to be in contention.

Prior to Lincoln Riley’s departure to USC, Hale was believed to be a lock to head to Oklahoma. The Sooners have been replaced by the Trojans on his list. What could be the turning point for Hale to the Bayou likely depends on who Brian Kelly names as the offensive coordinator.

Hale would be a major get for the Tigers if they are able to secure his commitment. Likely putting him as one of the next LSU WRs to become a household name. To do so, they might have a fight on their hands.

2023 Commit DeAndre Moore flashes “OU” after touchdown pass from Malachi Nelson

In Los Alamitos Thursday night matchup with Corona Del Mar, 2023 wide receiver commit DeAndre Moore flashed OU after scoring a touchdown.

Los Alamitos High School in California has become quite the feeder program for the Oklahoma Sooners this Summer. Over the last few months, the Sooners have received commitments from three players that play for the Griffins in Makai Lemon, Malachi Nelson, and DeAndre Moore.

All three players are among the best at their position and all three have that five-star attribute listed next to their name.

In a rare Thursday night game, Los Alamitos took on Corona Del Mar and two of the Sooners’ Los Alamitos commits are already providing some highlights.

After Malachi Nelson hit DeAndre Moore on a slant route for a touchdown, Moore jumped up and fashioned the O and U over his head.

Moore committed to the Sooners just six days ago, adding to an already incredible recruiting class for 2023 that features four five-star players, two four-stars, and one three-star player on the rise.

DeAndre Moore is already having fun repping his future home. Much like Caleb Williams did for the 2021 cycle, Malachi Nelson picked up the recruiting efforts for the 2023 recruiting class. After joining Nelson at Los Alamitos this Summer, it looks like Moore will be joining Nelson in his efforts to land top-flight recruits to join them.

Flashing OU after a touchdown during a high-profile high school game will certainly catch the attention of others and provide the Sooners with some positive PR as the team struggles to find consistency offensively.

What are the Sooners getting in DeAndre Moore Jr?

What are the Oklahoma Sooners getting from 2023 five-star commit DeAndre Moore Jr?

The Oklahoma Sooners don’t have any plans to slow down in recruiting for the 2023 class. They started strong and have remained strong through the summer into the fall. The start was strong enough that they lay claim to the nation’s number one recruiting class as it currently stands on 247Sports.

The latest member to join the class is DeAndre Moore Jr. He’s really a five-star athlete with the ability to play wide receiver or safety at the Power 5 level. Currently, the Sooners have plans to use him as a wide receiver when he gets on campus. Here’s what Oklahoma is getting in DeAndre Moore Jr:

Moore’s film showcases why he’s going to be a dangerous weapon for the Sooners’ offense. Moore routinely wins out of the slot and lined up outside.

He’s listed at 5’11 190 pounds and could conceivably grow another inch or so before he even laces up his cleats to play for Oklahoma. Moore’s ability to run and threaten defensive backs vertically opens up underneath and intermediate routes for himself. He looks comfortable catching passes in awkward spots like falling backward or adjusting mid-air over defenders.

His ability to stack receivers and get them out of their backpedal due to his speed will help him push for early playing time as the Sooners are always looking for guys to help open up the vertical passing game. He has strong hands and a wide catch radius as well. Moore missed an entire year of high school due to COVID which was a reason for his transfer to Los Alamitos High School.

As with many high school receivers that look to make the transition from high school to college, the biggest thing Moore will have to compete with is himself in the weight room. Defensive backs in college are stronger and more like to put hands on him coming out of his releases. More strength will allow him to play through and let his legs and feet do what they do best.

Personally, I love the way he attacks the ball in the air. It never feels like he’s waiting for it to come to him. He looks like he’s going to get it. Take a look below as he is catching a touchdown pass from his current and future teammate at Oklahoma, Malachi Nelsonn.

Moore is confident and has good lateral quickness in short routes as well. He’s not afraid to go and get a ball despite being listed at just 5’11.

Lincoln Riley, DeMarco Murray, and Dennis Simmons are doing major work right now surrounding Caleb Williams and Malachi Nelson with the players to be successful. The work on the recruiting trail can and will pay massive dividends on the field when the time comes.

Social Media Reactions to the commitment of 5-star WR DeAndre Moore

Social Media Reactions to the commitment of DeAndre Moore Jr. to the Oklahoma Sooners no.1 2023 recruiting class.

At some point we’re going to run out of words to describe just how special the 2023 recruiting class is. What Lincoln Riley and the Oklahoma Sooners’ are building in the 2023 recruiting cycle is going to be huge when these guys get to Norman in a couple of years.

DeAndre Moore Jr. joins fellow five-star wide receivers Brandon Inniss and Makai Lemon in a class that was the no. 1 recruiting class in the cycle according to 247Sports, and could be one of the best ever if this trend continues.

In the early stages of the 2023 recruiting cycle, Notre Dame and Penn State are the only other schools with a five-star commitment. They each have one. The Sooners now have four.

With Moore’s commitment, the Sooners now have seven players pledged to join the university in 2023. That includes Inniss and Lemon, the cycle’s no. 2 quarterback Malachi Nelson, Treyaun Webb (four-star), Luke Hasz (four-star), and rising three-star center Josh Bates.

Certainly, things could still change as we’ve seen with the 2022 class, however, with all of the departures from that group, 2023’s group of five-star wide receivers will have a clear path to contributing perhaps as early as their true freshmen seasons.

2023 5-star wide receiver narrows top 5, sets commitment date

Another five-star wide receiver has the Oklahoma Sooners in his top five as he sets his commitment date. Can the Sooners add another star to their already stellar 2023 recruiting class?

Stop us if you’ve heard this before but the Oklahoma Sooners have yet another 5-star wide receiver recruit within their sights.

As frequent as it’s been over the years, it’s probably not ever something the Oklahoma staff will take for granted. Listed as a 5-star wide receiver on 247Sports, DeAndre Moore Jr will announce his commitment on September 24th.

As seen in the graphic above, Oklahoma joins Florida State, Oregon, Alabama, and USC in the final five for Moore’s talents.

Oklahoma is in an excellent spot to land Moore. Moore transferred from Las Vegas Desert Pines after missing an entire season after COVID-19 forced his school to cancel an entire season. He transferred this summer to Los Alamitos High School in California. If you’re wondering where you’ve seen that school’s name, it’s because it’s become a bit of a pipeline for the Oklahoma Sooners.

The Sooners secured commitments from Los Alamitos stars Malachi Nelson and Makai Lemon this summer as part of the 2023 recruiting cycle.

Both have been recruiting Moore and he would only add to the Sooners top-ranked 2023 class. He would also give Oklahoma three commitments from the top five players in the state of California.

Moore’s a speed and agility merchant from the slot with the ability to line up outside the numbers and make plays. He would all but solidify Oklahoma’s wide receiver quota for 2023 barring a commitment from one or two other high-ranking receivers also in play.

As it stands, Oklahoma is playing the waiting game but it’s hard to ignore where Oklahoma stands in this race and not like their chances to land DeAndre Moore to an already stellar 2023 recruiting class.

What are the Oklahoma Sooners getting in 5-star wide receiver Brandon Inniss?

The Oklahoma Sooners landed another big-time commitment for the 2023 recruiting cycle, but what are they getting in 5-star WR Brandon Inniss

After a relatively tumultuous few months with wide receiver recruiting for the 2022 class, Lincoln Riley and the Oklahoma staff have not let it affect their efforts in recruiting receivers for the 2023 class.

Brandon Inniss, a wide receiver out of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, announced Sunday he would be joining the Sooners 2023 recruiting class as he verbally committed with friends and family looking on.

Rated as the number one wide receiver in the country on 247Sports and a top 20 prospect per ESPN, Inniss is a major get for the Sooners.

What exactly are the Sooners getting in their newest commit?

When looking at Inniss’ high school performance, the first thing that stands out is his physicality. He’s hard to bring down on first contact and is constantly fighting for the extra yards. Multiple three to five-yard hitches became 15-yard gains because of how physical and shifty Inniss is after the catch.

He shows the ability to get behind the defense with ease and has sure hands at such a young age. The young receiver will go up and over defenders in traffic to make a play.

In Riley’s offense, that’s a plus as Riley loves calling goal-line and slot fades to smaller but still athletic guys.

Inniss will get better at blocking the older and more physically mature he gets. He wants to block, and he puts effort into it, which is a coach’s dream.

The rest will come with more repetitions and more physical maturity. He catches screens and slants from the slot and can take the top off of a defense from the outside via vertical routes and deep crossing patterns.

Lincoln Riley covets versatility from his receivers, and Inniss’ ability to play inside and outside should serve him well as he looks to get on the field early for playing time.  Inniss can threaten teams vertically, attack the ball in the air, and is a threat to take a slant or screen and turn it into big yards after the catch. He’s a threat to score from anywhere on the field.

Simply put, he’s a dynamic wide receiver, and he knows it.
