Cotton Eye Joe song randomly interrupted tense match between Jessica Pegula, Iga Świątek

Where did this song come from and where did it go?

Jessica Pegula and Iga Świątek were just charging along as normal during their Canadian Open semi-final match on Saturday. And there came a point during the second set where they found themselves seeking a pivotal tie-breaking point at six-all.

But towards the end of a solid sequence of volleys, the 1995 hit song “Cotton Eye Joe” randomly started blasting over what appeared to be some loudspeakers by the court. Both players stopped, the watching crowd audibly gasped, and even the judge on the side couldn’t quite believe a song like that — from out of nowhere — interrupted the match.

What a profoundly weird moment:

After deliberation, Pegula and Świątek simply replayed the point and moved on. Pegula would eventually prevail in three sets. No harm, no foul.

But still: no one knows where this came from or where did it go?

Adam Hadwin was mistakenly tackled by Canadian Open security in an attempt to celebrate with Nick Taylor

Ouch…

Talk about an unfortunate case of mistaken identity here for Adam Hadwin.

After Nick Taylor’s stunning 72-foot putt went in as he walked off the 2023 Canadian Open, Hadwin attempted to celebrate with his fellow Canadian. Alas, before Hadwin could get to Taylor — with champaign in hand, no less! — security from the Canadian Open mistakenly tackled the PGA golfer instead.

Seriously, the Canadian Open security got to Hadwin like Myles Garrett going after a quarterback. It was quite impressive, all things considered! Here’s hoping everything got sorted out in the end after this tackle, because it’s clear security thought Hadwin was a fan and not a fellow golfer.

Nick Taylor sank an unreal 72-foot putt to win the Canadian Open

WHAT A PUTT!

Nick Taylor just made the putt of his life and is now the winner of the RBC Canadian Open because of it.

On the fourth playoff hole of the 2023 Canadian Open, Taylor managed to sink a 72-foot putt to put the game away. Taylor was locked in a dead heat with Tommy Fleetwood, but was able to put home this long putt to win the tournament. The win is the first by a Canadian since since 1954.

Not only that, this putt was the longest putt of Taylor’s career. Quite a time to sink a long ball! Here’s how Taylor’s final putt went down, celebrations and all.
