Best moments of the Boston Celtics’ 223-24 NBA season

The Celtics had a 2023-24 NBA regular season for the record books.

The Boston Celtics had a 2023-24 NBA regular season for the record books, winning not only the Eastern Conference standings handily but the entire league’s, assuring themselves of home court advantage throughout the looming 2024 postseason as a result.

With four players earning Eastern Conference Player of the Month, a new franchise (and league) record was set. And from point differentials to blowout wins, new achievements seemed to be setting records with every passing week of the regular season. Now the Celtics are poised to start their journey to (hopefully) hanging Banner 18 with the start of the 2024 NBA Playoffs.

But before we dive in head-first, let’s take a look at some of the best moments from the Celtics’ 2023-24 campaign, courtesy of our friends at NBC Sports Boston.

The sixth annual Boston Celtics award show

It’s time to hand out some of the industry’s most prestigious awards.

The Boston Celtics’ 2023-24 NBA regular season has finally come to an end after a season for the record books, and it’s time to hand out some of the industry’s most prestigious awards.

Who will win the Blake Griffin Award for “Most Vibiest Player” on the Celtics’ roster this season? What about the coveted Marcus Smart “No, No, Yes!” Award? These awards can absolutely cement a player’s future Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame eligibility, so there’s a lot on the line! The hosts of the CLNS Media “First to the Floor” podcast, Jake Issenberg, Ben Vallis, and Wayne Spooney, broke it all down on a recent episode.

Take a look at the clip embedded below to hear what they had to say.

San Antonio Spurs report card for the 2023-24 NBA regular season

What can we say about the San Antonio Spurs’ 2023-24 NBA season that can be expressed succinctly in a letter grade?

What can we say about the San Antonio Spurs‘ 2023-24 NBA season that can be expressed succinctly in a letter grade, report card-style? On one hand, they nailed the easiest draft pick maybe in the history of the league in the 2023 offseason by selecting rookie star forward Victor Wembanyama.

On the other hand, how do we grade the player development-oriented approach to the subsequent season itself? It ultimately led to a lot of losses for the Spurs, but also perhaps boosted the ceiling of a few prospects while getting a look at who fits for the future? Was this a worthy price to pay for a better (draft) future, or a mistake that might irk the team’s future superstar forward?

The host of the “TSR Sports” podcast took a close look at all the context and offered up his report card on a recent episode.

Check it out above to hear his assessment for yourself.

Boston bench players getting more chances to shine

Could Boston’s bench mob power the Celtics to a win in the postseason?

The Boston Celtics have been able to play their reserves a lot more than usual since the team won its 60th game of the NBA’s 2023-24 regular season. Having sewed up the best record in the league with that victory, winning every game for the rest of the team’s remaining slate of regular season games became much less important.

But once the Celtics started closing contests with the so-called ‘Stay Ready Crew,‘ the wins kept coming, leading to increased trust from coach Joe Mazzulla and increased floor time with it. Could Boston’s bench mob power the Celtics to a win in the postseason?

The hosts of the CLNS Media “How Bout Them Celtics!” and “Talkin’ Cs” podcasts, Jack Simone, Sam LaFrance, and Bobby Krivitsky, dug into this emergent phenomenon on a recent episode. Check it out below!

San Antonio’s Victor Wembanyama named one of NBA’s biggest winners of ’23-24 season

The 7-foot-4 forward has indeed had one of the best rookie seasons in league history.

San Antonio Spurs rookie big man Victor Wembanyama has been named one of the NBA’s biggest winners of the 2023-24 NBA season by Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey. The 7-foot-4 forward has indeed had one of the best rookie seasons in league history, so it’s no surprise to see him cast so — as Bailey acknowledges.

“Wembanyama adjusted to the speed and athleticism of the NBA game faster than just about anyone could’ve predicted, and now the rest of the league has to be concerned about the future,” writes the B/R analyst of the French wunderkind. “Wemby can shoot from seemingly anywhere.”

“He drilled a dribble pull-up 3 from several feet behind the line during the comeback against the (Denver) Nuggets. He’s already perhaps the game’s most feared rim protector.”

“Beyond leading the NBA in blocks per game, he forced tons of about-faces from would-be drivers,” adds Bailey. “He’s an underrated playmaker and cheat code around the rim too.”

“The hype surrounding Wembanyama coming into this season was unreal. That he’s already exceeding it is even harder to believe. As a rookie, he’s made it clear he’ll be a perennial MVP candidate, and that could start as early as next season.”

What do French NBA fans think of Victor Wembanyama’s rookie season with the San Antonio Spurs?

What are Wemby’s fellow French fans of the sport thinking about his debut season in the league?

The San Antonio Spurs’ 2023-24 NBA season was really only about one thing: getting to know French rookie forward Phenom Victor Wembanyama and getting familiar with what brings out the best of the 7-foot-4 wunderkind.

Now, after the conclusion of the Spurs’ regular season campaign, it is safe to say that the world has come to know just how good Wemby already is — and it has us all drooling for what the San Antonio big man will soon be able to do in the NBA. But what about his countrymen? What are Wemby’s fellow French fans of the sport thinking about his debut season in the league?

To answer that question, the host of the “Locked On Spurs” podcast, Jeff Garcia, linked up with French Spurs reporter Vincent Pialat of Le Parisien to give the pulse of the French fan base on Victor Wembanyama’s rookie season.

Take a look at the clip embedded above to hear what they had to say.

Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama’s end of season media availability

Will San Antonio’s 2024-25 season be the campaign that sees the French big man put it all together?

The San Antonio Spurs have completed all 82 games of their 2023-24 NBA season, their first with French rookie forward Victor Wembanyama. And while it did not end in a run at the play-in tournament or even playoffs as some had hoped they would, it did see the meteoric rise of Wemby in terms of a defensive player.

Now, the gangly forward is a legitimate Defensive Player of the Year candidate in the same season he started out shaky on that end of the court. Will San Antonio’s 2024-25 season be the campaign that sees the French big man put it all together?

The big question in front of the Spurs’ front office is which players on the roster make sense to bring back with Wembanyama — and which players not on the roster should they be targeting.

San Antonio put together a clip of Wemby’s words at the end of the season and ahead of all the incoming changes. Check it out for yourself above!

Maine Celtics set to take on Oklahoma City Blue in 2024 G League Playoffs Finals

Maine will face off with the Oklahoma City Blue in a best-of-three-series.

It is not just the Boston Celtics who are gearing up for a run at a title this month, with the Boston-based ball club’s G League affiliate up in Portland having advanced to the G League Finals. The Maine Celtics just finished beating the Long Island Nets (the G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets) to earn a spot in their league’s finals for the 2023-24 season.

In it, Maine will face off with the Oklahoma City Blue, the developmental affiliates of the Oklahoma City Thunder in the G League. It has rarely been the case that the ball clubs with such good records at the NBA level have met in the G league postseason. So, this new wrinkle will add a bit of extra sauce to an already intriguing matchup.

The folks behind the “News Center Maine” YouTube channel recently ran a short on the looming three-game series. Check it out in the clip embedded below for details.

Celtics Lab 249: Sizing up the Boston Celtics’ path to the 2024 NBA Finals with Steve Bulpett

Is Boston truly comparable to other champion Celtics squads?

The Boston Celtics own the best record in the NBA for the 2023-24 season and have an absurd 15-game lead over the next-closest team in the East, the Milwaukee Bucks. Records seem to be breaking on a regular basis, and we keep hearing about how this iteration of the Celtics are an all-time ball club.

But do they have what it takes to win it all? And are these records and this history we keep hearing about Boston making truly comparable to other champion Celtics squads? Or are we getting the Boston hype machine keyed up ahead of another disappointment on the league’s biggest stage?

To get the necessary context for what this version of the ball club looks like vs. earlier title teams, the hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast sat down with Heavy’s Steve Bulpett. On the beat since Larry Bird was lacing them up, he helps us put this Boston ball club in the proper context ahead of the 2024 NBA Playoffs.
