2022 Waste Management Phoenix Open odds, picks and PGA Tour predictions

Analyzing the golf odds to win the 2022 Waste Management Phoenix Open, with PGA Tour picks, predictions and best bets.

The Super Bowl isn’t the only party taking place in the sports world this weekend. The “Greatest Show on Grass” is also on the docket as the PGA Tour heads to TPC Scottsdale for the Waste Management Phoenix Open – the biggest party in golf. It’s a loaded field in Arizona this week as the top pros take on the Stadium Course, which will be packed with fans. Below, we look at the 2022 Waste Management Phoenix Open odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions to win.

The WM Phoenix Open will be loaded with stars just one week after the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am featured a slightly weaker field. Jon Rahm, the No. 1 player in the world and the top player in this week’s Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, headlines the field. Brooks Koepka will also be in Phoenix to defend his title from last year, while Rickie Fowler is trying to get back on track at a course where he’s won before. Louis Oosthuizen will tee it up this week, having not finished an event since October.

After playing multiple courses in each of the last three tournaments, the WM Phoenix Open will keep things to one track: The Stadium Course at TPC Scottsdale. It plays at 7,261 yards and is a par-71 course, with the winning score typically being in the high-teens; each of the last five winners has shot 17-under or better. Distance and accuracy off the tee certainly give players an advantage here, which hasn’t necessarily been the case in recent weeks at Pebble Beach and Torrey Pines.

Viktor Hovland (+2000)

Hovland won two of his last three starts on the PGA Tour and is coming off a victory two weeks ago at the Dubai Desert Classic on the European Tour. He’s arguably the hottest golfer on the planet and there isn’t a course that doesn’t suit his game — even though he’s only played this event once.

Hovland should contend once again this week in Phoenix with his short game improving (even if only slightly) and his accuracy off the tee (71.9%, seventh on tour). He’s a terrific value at +2000 and should probably have shorter odds with the way he’s been playing.

2022 Waste Management Phoenix Open picks – Contender

Andrew Putnam (+10000)

Putnam missed the cut here in 2019 and 2020, but he tied for 7th last year and is steadily improving this season. He went T-27 at the Sony Open, T-14 at The American Express and followed that up with a T-6 last week at Pebble Beach. He’s not a great driver of the golf ball (148th in SG: Off the Tee), but he makes it up for it with good putting and ball striking.

2022 Waste Management Phoenix Open picks – Long shot

Nate Lashley (+20000)

Lashley is unquestionably comfortable at TPC Scottsdale. He tied for 3rd in 2020 and finished T-17 last year, finding that his game fits well for the Phoenix Open. Though he’s not the longest or most accurate off the tee — he ranks outside the top 100 in both categories this season — but he’s 28th in SG: putting, which will keep him in the hunt this week.
