Following a wild and extended week at TPC Sawgrass for the rain-soaked Players Championship, the next stop on the schedule is the Valspar Championship. It’s yet another big test on the Florida swing as players take on the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, Fla. Below, we look at the 2022 Valspar Championship odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions to win.
There’s plenty of star power in the field this week despite Valspar coming after such a marquee event such as The Players Championship. Justin Thomas and Viktor Hovland are tied for the best odds to win this week, coming in at +1000, followed by Collin Morikawa (+1200) and Dustin Johnson, (+1500).
All four and Xander Schauffele (+2000) are the five World Golf Ranking top-10 players in the field this week. With the Players Championship spilling into Monday, some golfers might withdraw after this publication.
The Copperhead Course at Innisbrook plays to 7,340 yards and is a par 71. It features a difficult closing stretch, similar to the Bear Trap at PGA National, only this span of holes is dubbed the “Snake Pit.” The winner typically finishes with a score between 7-under and 14-under, with last year’s champion Sam Burns winning by three shots at 17-under.

Louis Oosthuizen (+2000)
Somehow, Oosthuizen – No. 3 in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings – only has one PGA Tour victory. But this week could be his second. In his last four starts at the Valspar Championship, he’s finished no worse than T-16 and has three top-10’s – including a tie for second in 2019. He comes into this week in decent form, too, despite not having a top-10 this season. He ranks 30th on tour in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-green and is 82nd in Strokes Gained: Putting, so he has the all-around game to win this week.

2022 Valspar Championship picks – Contender
Bubba Watson (+5000)
Watson was in great shape at The Players until difficult conditions caused higher scores on the weekend. He was 3-under after two rounds, helped by a phenomenal 68 in the windy second round. But in the final two rounds, he shot 78 and 76 to fall way back to 68th. He finished in the top 15 in each of his last two trips to the Valspar, playing well at Innisbrook recently.
2022 Valspar Championship picks – Long shot
Jhonattan Vegas (+10000)
Vegas has shown some signs of breaking through, with two top-15’s this season, but he’s faded down the stretch a bit. He finished tied for 48th here last year, which was just his third start at this championship, but he’s worth a shot this week. He’s 39th in SG: Tee-to-green and if he can get his putting to improve, he could find himself in contention this weekend.
