These Bears players aren’t guaranteed a roster spot heading into training camp.

The Bears are gearing up for the start of training camp, and we’re taking an early look at their 90-man roster this summer.

We previously examined those players who are considered locks and those who are safe bets to make the final roster. Now, we’re taking a look at the rest of the roster, who will face tough competition to earn a coveted spot on the 53-man roster.

Here’s a look at those players who aren’t guaranteed a roster spot heading into training camp:

Raiders send IDL Vernon Butler to Non-Football Injury list

Another Raiders interior defensive lineman lost to injury

Training camp has just started for the Raiders and things are without several interior defensive linemen. First it was projected starters Johnathan Hankins and Bilal Nichols who began camp on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. And today they were joined by Vernon Butler who was placed on the Non-Football Injury list.

The seventh-year veteran DT Butler was added this offseason to compete for a spot in the rotation.

With Hankins, Nichols, and Butler down, this is what the group looks like:

Neil Farrell Jr (D-4)
Tyler Lancaster
Andrew Billings
Matthew Butler (D-5)
Kyle Peko
Kendal Vickers

So, as you can see, they still have plenty of bodies to fill out their first, second, and third teams. Two of whom are drafted rookies. Only Vickers is a returning player. All others enter their first training camp with the Raiders.

It’s actually a pretty sizable group, which makes you wonder if a return by any of the three currently out would lead to one of the other getting cut.

5 sleepers to watch on defense in Bears training camp

As the Bears head into training camp, let’s take a look at some sleepers on defense you should keep an eye out for this summer.

The Chicago Bears are gearing up for the start of training camp next week, which will feature no shortage of storylines. There will be plenty of competition for starting jobs and roster spots.

All eyes will be on some of Chicago’s big-name stars, including Justin Fields and Roquan Smith. But each year, there are a few players for the Bears who fly under the radar and can become household names in training camp.

As the Bears head into training camp, let’s take a look at some sleepers on the defensive side of the ball you may want to keep an eye out for this summer.

20 players likely to make Bears’ 53-man roster

It would be a surprise if these Bears players were cut.

The Bears are gearing up for the start of training camp, and we’re taking an early look at their 90-man roster this summer.

Earlier, we identified 27 players who are considered locks to make the 53-man roster. Now, we’re taking a look at the players who aren’t exactly locks but should certainly make the 53-man roster.

The first round of roster cuts will happen after the first preseason game on Aug. 16. It’s a safe bet that these 20 players aren’t going anywhere.

Raiders sign CB Isiah Brown, announce two other moves

Raiders makes three more roster moves on eve of training camp

For a second consecutive day the Raiders signed a former USFL player. Today they announced they have added Isiah “Ike” Brown ahead of the start to camp. This after adding WR Isaiah Zuber on Tuesday.

Brown recently played with the New Orleans Breakers where he had two interceptions, one returned for a touchdown.

The former undrafted free agent out of Florida International originally signed with the Buffalo Bills in 2020 before being placed on the reserve/retired list during training camp.

Along with the addition of Brown, the Raiders announced the release of veteran safety Dallin Leavitt and the waiving of guard Jordan Meredith.

Leavitt had announced his release earlier in the day on this instagram page, thanking the team with which he spent the past four seasons.

Raiders veterans report to camp with ‘first day of school’ excitement

‘First day of school’ excitement as Raiders veterans report to camp.

The day has arrived. And with it the Raiders veterans at their facility in Henderson to begin training camp. The offseason is officially over for the Raiders, which means the level of preparation for the 2022 season kicks into another gear.

“It’s like the first day of school,” said linebacker Denzel Perryman. “You see everybody, getting around everybody again, starting all over again. I wouldn’t say I’m nervous, but like I said first day of school all over again.”

First day of school is a feeling most everyone can relate to. You loved summer, but there’s always a feeling of a new beginning with the first day of school. New clothes, new supplies, new hope. Not to mention seeing some friends you hadn’t seen in a while.

The new friends in this case are the teammates and coaches with whom these guys will go into battle with every day for the next six months. Hopefully a bit longer than that, if all goes well.

Those hopes begin anew right now, as these guys shift into camp mode.

“Oh, of course. Of course,” Maxx Crosby said of his anxiousness and excitement on the eve of the first day of camp. “Last night I’m watching ‘Last Dance’ like I did last year before camp and the year before, it’s the same thing. Just trying to get my mind to a different place because to start training camp you got to be in a different place mentally. It’s here now. It’s super exciting every single year. It’s always a new challenge, new goals, new things going on, but it’s football at the end of the day, so there’s nothing more I’d rather be doing on earth, so we’re fired up.”

For those unfamiliar, Last Dance is a documentary miniseries focused around Michael Jordan’s 1997-98 season, his final season with the Chicago Bulls and his run at his sixth and final NBA Championship.

Yeah, hope springs eternal for Crosby and the Raiders. They feel pretty good about the team they have coming into this season, especially with Crosby now bookended by Chandler Jones and with the offense’s addition of the best receiver in football, Davante Adams.

Thursday this newly formed team hits the field for training camp day one.

27 players are locks for Bears’ 53-man roster

There’s no doubt these players will make the Bears roster.

With a new regime in place, there aren’t many Chicago Bears players who are guaranteed roster spots heading into the 2022 season. But we managed to compile a list of those who, for all intents and purposes, will definitely be on the roster.

Barring an unforeseen circumstance, like a trade (looking at you, Robert Quinn), these 27 players are locks to make the team this summer:

Raiders place 3 projected starters on PUP list to start training camp

Three projected starters to start Raiders camp on PUP list

Tomorrow is report day for Raiders veterans, with the first practice taking place on Thursday. Those practices will begin without three players on the field — all of whom are projected starters.

Today the Raiders announced defensive tackles Johnathan Hankins and Bilal Nichols along with cornerback Trayvon Mullen will begin camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Mullen had offseason foot surgery while Hankins and Nichols’s injuries have not been revealed.

The interior defensive line figures to be led by Hankins and Nichols this season. Hankins was re-signed while the former Bears DT Nichols signed as a free agent.

Other defensive tackles vying for playing time in rotation include free agent additions Vernon Butler, Kyle Peko, and Andrew Billings and drafted rookies Matthew Butler and Neil Farrell Jr.

Mullen would appear to have an inside track on one of the starting outside cornerback jobs. Though that job is not guaranteed and missing extended time could give one of the other hopefuls a chance to prove they deserve a shot at unseating him.

The Raiders added several free agent cornerbacks this offseason including Rock Ya-Sin, Anthony Averett, and Darius Phillips. While Nate Hobbs will once again start inside at nickel.
