Lakers’ LeBron James named 2022 All-Star captain, starter

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is an All-Star captain yet again.

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James will be a captain for the 2022 NBA All-Star game in Cleveland.

NBA on TNT revealed the starters for each time prior to the game between the Lakers and Philadelphia 76ers, and James is also a starter for the Western Conference.

James got the nod for captain because he had the most fan votes. The last batch tallied last week revealed James had taken Stephen Curry’s No. 1 spot with 6.8 million votes. This marks 18 straight All-Star appearances for LeBron.

Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant is the other captain, though he’s not expected to play in the game due to an MCL sprain.

The other Western Conference starters: Curry, Ja Morant, Andrew Wiggins and Nikola Jokic.

Along with Durant in the East: Trae Young, DeMar DeRozan, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Joel Embiid.

The All-Star game is slated for Sunday, Feb. 20.

Celtics’ Tatum and Brown hold steady in NBA All-Star fan voting update

The Celtics’ Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown still feature in their respective positional top-10’s in the East’s All-Star fan voting update.

Boston Celtics wings Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown have held their places in the NBA’s All-Star fan voting for the Eastern Conference. Tatum held firm as the No. 4 frontcourt player and Brown as the No. 10 backcourt player in Thursday’s update. Tatum is currently sitting at just over 1.58 million votes and Brown has over 330,000 to this point.

Tatum and Brown have been the focal points of the Celtics this season, with the two combining to average 49.3 points per game. The two of them alone account for nearly 40% of the team’s total scoring, despite missing a combined 18 of a possible 92 games thus far.

Since the last update, Tatum has added around 430,000 votes and Brown has picked up about 113,000. They are the only two Celtics currently in the two positional top-10’s in the East and both are well-deserving of another selection to the league’s All-Star team.

Boston legend Robert Parish talks Celtics All-Stars, Robert Williams, coaching and more in new interview

Cheif sat down with the Celtics Wire to share his thoughts on the historic season, the All-Star game, and the team he won three titles with.

Robert Parish is among the greatest big men to ever play the game, and he did it longer than anyone else due to his extraordinary longevity. The bulk of his 21-season career was spent with the Boston Celtics, where he won three of his four titles among countless other honors.

Chief, as Parish was dubbed by teammate Cedric Maxwell for his stoic demeanor on the court, sat down with the Celtics Wire to share his thoughts on the contemporary NBA in the year of the league’s diamond jubilee, making the 75th-anniversary team, the 2022 All-Star game, and the state of the team he spent 14 seasons playing for.

He even offers up some excellent advice for fellow Louisianan center Robert Williams III in the wide-ranging interview below (edited lightly for clarity and brevity).

Lakers’ LeBron James now leads the NBA in All-Star game fan voting

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is back on top in fan voting for the 2022 NBA All-Star Game.

The NBA released the third and final batch of fan voting results for the 2022 All-Star game, and Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is back on top.

After trailing Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry the last few weeks for the top spot in the Western Conference, James has taken over by a solid margin.

James now has 6,827,449 votes, about 800,000 more than Curry. That means James should maintain his spot as a captain in the All-Star game, a title he’s held for the last four years since the NBA revamped the game’s format. James also leads the NBA in fan voting.

Elsewhere for the Lakers, Anthony Davis is No. 5 on the list with 2,071,920 votes, and Carmelo Anthony (No.7) has 1,449,475 votes to round out the frontcourt. In the backcourt, Russell Westbrook is No. 6 with 855,990 votes.

Fans account for 50% of the vote to determine the starters for the game, while current NBA players and a media panel each have a 25% stake. Head coaches select the reserves.

The 2022 All-Star game is slated for Sunday, Feb. 20 in Cleveland.

Two Boston Celtics feature in NBA Eastern Conference All-Star fan voting

Boston’s Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are in the Eastern Conference’s top-10 in fan voting.

The Boston Celtics now have two players in the top-10 vote-getters for the Eastern Conference in the NBA’s All-Star fan vote, as Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum are featured.

Tatum, a two-time All-Star, has the fourth-most votes among frontcourt players with over 1.15 million. Tatum is one of 17 players to garner over a million votes and one of eight in the East. Brown, who earned his first All-Star nod last season, has cracked the top-10 with over 217,000 votes. Brown had not previously been in the first iteration of the top-10, but Celtics fans helped boost him after noticing his initial omission.

Both Tatum and Brown have been producing at a high level this season. Tatum is tied with Donovan Mitchell for the fourth-most total points scored at 976, good for 25.7 per game. Brown is averaging 24.5, which would be 13th in the league if he had the game time to qualify.

Should they continue to produce and stay healthy, at least one, if not both, should make the All-Star team for Feb. 20.

LeBron James stays No. 2 in Western Conference in second round of NBA All-Star fan voting

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James now has 4.3 million fan votes for the 2022 NBA All-Star Game, which is good for No. 2 in the West.

The second round of fan voting for the 2022 NBA All-Star game is now live, and Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James retains the top spot in the Western Conference frontcourt.

James now has 4,386,392 votes, which trails only Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry, who has accumulated 4,463,426 votes to lead the conference.

If Curry holds the No. 1 spot for another week, he will be named as one of two captains for the revamped format the NBA introduced four years ago. James has been a captain for every single season, but his reign could soon come to an end if he can’t lap Curry in fan votes.

Elsewhere for the Lakers, Anthony Davis went up to No. 5 with 1,342,294 votes. Carmelo Anthony also climbed the standings, going to No. 7 with 886,014 votes.

In the backcourt, Russell Westbrook jumped to No. 6 with 576,512 votes.

The next round of voting will be revealed on Jan. 20, one week from now. Voting ends on Jan. 22 at midnight EST.

The Athletic picks Anthony Davis as last man in for Western Conference in 2022 NBA All-Star Game

Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis just barely made the cut in The Athletic’s picks for the 2022 NBA All-Star Game.

The 2022 NBA All-Star game is about a month away as the league assembles the best stars from each conference to play it out in a fun affair. The Los Angeles Lakers should have representation this year with the way LeBron James is playing, but it’s not quite clear how Anthony Davis stands.

Davis has played in 27 out of 41 games so far this season because of an MCL sprain that occurred in mid-December. In those games, Davis averaged 23.3 points, 9.9 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.2 steals while shooting 52.1% from the field.

Though Davis has faced criticism for his play, his numbers are still strong — despite what his expectations are. But is it enough to warrant an All-Star spot this season?

According to The Athletic’s latest article on All-Star picks from each conference, Davis just makes it in as the last man in the Western Conference:

Anthony Davis, Lakers: The first 11 spots on the West team are pretty clear-cut; the last one is not. We are basically left with two classes of players: those who are normally fixtures on the All-Star team but have been injured or ineffective this year and those who’ve been in lineups all year and played fairly well but, if we’re being honest, don’t really belong in an All-Star Game.

Of the first group, Davis has played both the most games (27 games before suffering an MCL sprain) and the most effectively, and he seems likely to be back in action before the All-Star Game.

In this sorting, Davis just edged Damian Lillard, Paul George and Dejounte Murray for the final spot. But Davis will also need to get some games under his belt before the decisions are made.

The Athletic picked LeBron to be a starter for the West, though the game is now based on captains from each conference to select their respective teams. Davis was also in the top 10 for the Western Conference frontcourt in fan voting.

Only time will tell if Davis will be healthy in time to make a strong push for an All-Star spot, which would be the ninth nod of his career.

The Athletic picks LeBron James to be a starter in the 2022 NBA All-Star game

The Athletic chose Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James to represent the West as a starter in the 2022 NBA All-Star Game.

The 2022 NBA All-Star game is about a month away, and if players want to have a strong shot to get named to their respective teams, now is the time to go all out. That’s been the case for Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James.

James, who turned 37 in late December, is having an extraordinary season, especially with his offensive production.

The 19-year veteran is averaging 28.9 points per game, trailing only Brooklyn Nets star Kevin Durant in that category. But James’ efficiency is arguably more impressive, as he is knocking down 52.8% of his shots overall and 37.2% from downtown.

Though the Lakers are currently 21-20, James is the reason the team is staying afloat in the playoff race as Anthony Davis nurses an MCL sprain. That is one reason The Athletic picked James to be a starter in the Western Conference frontcourt:

LeBron James, Lakers: Is the Lakers’ 21-20 record a disappointment? Yes. But don’t blame James. He’s second in the league in scoring (28.9 points per game), and he’s done it with his trademark efficiency. After a slow start, he’s averaging more than 30 points per game in December and January while shifting to the center position during Anthony Davis’ injury.

James led the Western Conference frontcourt in fan voting when the first round of votes were revealed last week. He garnered over 2,000,000 votes, which ranked second behind Stephen Curry to be an All-Star captain, a title James has held for four consecutive years. If he maintains this level of play and helps L.A. secure more wins, he could make a push for the top spot and solidify himself as a starter.

The other picks in the starting lineup by The Athletic: Stephen Curry, Chris Paul, Nikola Jokic and Rudy Gobert.

The All-Star game is slated for Feb. 20 in Cleveland, so it’d be fitting for James to be a starter.

Boston’s Jayson Tatum comes in 4th in 1st 2022 fan All-Star voting returns; Jaylen Brown yet to register in top-10

So far, only one of Boston’s two most recent All-Stars is registering in fan voting for this coming All-Star game.

The first round of returns for the 2022 NBA All-Star Game voting has come back, and the Boston Celtics have a player near the top of the returns in one of the two categories with a conspicuous absence in the other. Voting is again split between back and frontcourt players, and All-Star forward Jayson Tatum finds himself coming in fourth overall in the frontcourt returns.

Listed behind Kevin Durant (2,360,435 votes), Giannis Antetokounmpo (2,145, 835), and Joel Embiid (1,236,060) with 643,970 votes and is just ahead of Jimmy Butler (522,513), the Duke product is probably out of range of a starting slot, but at least technically could still make up the ground.

At present there is a conspicuous absence for the Celtics in the backcourt voting, however, with All-Star forward Jaylen Brown not even registering in the first round of returns despite arguably being the better player in recent games for Boston.

There’s still plenty of time for fans to get the Georgia native on the board with the 10th-place spot currently held down by Fred VanVleet of the Toronto Raptors with 108,529 votes.

The next round of NBA All-Star fan voting returns will be revealed on Thursday, Jan. 13.
