Boston star Jaylen Brown credits coach Ime Udoka for setting the tone of Celtics’ postseason success vs. Nets

The Celtics star believes his coach’s approach on the sidelines is a major reason why Boston has excelled in the playoffs so far.

After the Boston Celtics swept the Brooklyn Nets on Monday night with their 116 – 112 road win over their Atlantic Division rivals, plenty of praise was rightly focused on what the team had accomplished together and as individual players since starting the season 17 – 19 to many a Celtics fans’ consternation.

But after the unlikely sweep was on the books, star forward Jaylen Brown wanted to be sure that the architect behind Boston’s second-half success and early playoff excellence got his flowers as well when speaking to the media — namely first-year head coach Ime Udoka.

“Ime set the tone from the jump,” related Brown.

‘Uno or Spades?’: NBA All-Stars had big bills on this locker room card game

What else is there to do before an exhibition game?

What does a locker room full of star NBA players do as they wait to play an exhibition game? Gamble, of course.

Or, at least, that was one of probably a few options.

Prior to the All-Star Game on Sunday, TNT cameras in the Team Durant locker room caught a little card action going on. Tonk, maybe?

Whatever it was, Joel Embiid was dealing for what looked like a game between himself, Jayson Tatum, Devin Booker and Trae Young. And there didn’t appear to be a bill smaller than $100 on the table.

With Rudy Gobert, Andrew Wiggins and Zach Lavine looking on, Charles Barkley joked about how stressed the players looked. But the All-Stars certainly could afford to lose a few bucks.

Now if Michael Jordan — who was there for the 75th anniversary ceremony — popped his head (and very deep pockets) into the locker room, that’s when the real stress would’ve began. Knowing Jordan’s penchant for gambling, Twitter had jokes.

LeBron James reacts to making game-winning shot in Cleveland

LeBron James reacts to his game-winning shot in the 2022 All-Star game in Cleveland.

LeBron James is going home with an All-Star game win for the fifth straight season as Team LeBron topped Team Durant, 163-160.

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry took home the All-Star MVP award after dropping a 50-piece that included 16 made 3-pointers, an All-Star game record. Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo had a strong two-way game with 30 points, 12 rebounds, six assists, three steals and a block.

But LeBron had the final say as he hit the game-winning shot to reach the target score of 163. Zach LaVine and Joel Embiid tried to defend it, but James’ one-legged fadeaway that had a rainbow release went in, capping off his stat line of 24 points, eight assists, six rebounds, three steals and a block.

James reacted to making the shot in Cleveland on his Instagram, and the caption included his infamous phrase from 2016:

“CLEVELAND!!!!!!! This is for you. AGAIN”

WATCH: LeBron James hits game winner in 2022 NBA All-Star game

Watch LeBron James hit the game-winning fadeaway to top Team Durant.

It just had to be him. LeBron James hit the game-winning fadeaway in his home state to defeat Team Durant, 163-160.

There is no game clock in the fourth quarter with the new format. After three quarters, there is a target score. Whichever team reaches that first wins. Tonight that was 163.

LeBron called for the ball while Chicago Bulls guard Zach LaVine guarded him in the post on an empty set. James sized him up while Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid rushed over to provide LaVine help defense.

The help didn’t matter.

James turned around and shot a rainbow one-legged fadeaway over both defenders and nailed it to secure the win. Team LeBron is now 5-0 since the NBA revamped the format five seasons ago.

Team LeBron player grades: LeBron James hits the game-winning shot in 2022 All-Star game

See how Team LeBron graded after defeating Team Durant in a thrilling All-Star game.

A fitting end to the 2022 NBA All-Star game in Cleveland. LeBron James drilled the game-winning shot to help Team LeBron defeat Team Durant, 163-160.

Of course, defense was optional all throughout the game. The first three quarters were played for fun moments and vying to win for money to go to charity, but the stakes increased in the fourth quarter.

Both teams picked up the intensity, with Joel Embiid trying to attack the paint for Team Durant and Stephen Curry trying to break the record for most points scored in one All-Star game.

In the end, James and Team LeBron are now 5-0 since the league switched to the captain format.

Here is how Team LeBron graded individually from the win:

The NBA on Sunday celebrated the 75 best players in league history during the 2022 All-Star game in Cleveland, and it gave two legends of the sport an opportunity to chop it up.

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James and Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan were both in attendance — with James being the captain of Team LeBron — during the halftime celebration when every player got their moment on the court.

That led to a unique moment between the two when both players embraced after the ceremony.

Jarrett Allen to replace James Harden for Team LeBron’s All-Star team

Jarrett Allen of the Cleveland Cavaliers will join Team LeBron for the 2022 NBA All-Star game.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver selected Cleveland Cavaliers center Jarrett Allen as James Harden’s injury replacement for Team LeBron at the 2022 All-Star game.

Harden won’t be able to play due to a hamstring injury, so Team LeBron needed a replacement from the Eastern Conference to take his spot.

Allen joins teammate Darius Garland as the two members of the Cavaliers to make the All-Star game, and they’ll join LeBron to play in Cleveland.

The 23-year-old center is having an extremely productive season with the emerging Cavaliers. He’s averaging 16.2 points, 11.1 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game while shooting 66.5% from the field.

Allen is the only center in the reserves for Team LeBron.

With James Harden skipping the 2022 All-Star Game, could Jaylen Brown get the nod to replace him?

There are several competitors for the honor, even still.

Could the Boston Celtics find themselves with two 2022 NBA All-Stars after all? ESPN’s Tim Bontemps reports that new Philadelphia 76ers star James Harden will not only miss all his new squad’s games ahead of the 2022 All-Star Game but the exhibition tilt itself, which means that the league will need to select a replacement to play in his stead.

Brown is not the only such player who cold be in the mix for such an honor with the likes of Jarrett Allen of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Pascal Siakam of the Toronto Raptors and several other prospective injury replacements available to fill in for Harden as well. That didn’t stop teammates Grant Williams and Jayson Tatum from advocating for Brown on Twitter, however.

Such an honor could theoretically also have financial ramifications for the Celtics, who would owe Brown $1.4 million more should he end up an All-Star.

Boston would likely still be under the tax with most estimates placing the team over a million dollars under the tax to a few thousand dollars beneath it.

Team LeBron will need injury replacement for James Harden at All-Star game

A new player will need to join Team LeBron since James Harden (hamstring) will not be able to play.

Newly acquired Philadelphia 76ers star James Harden will not be able to play in the 2022 NBA All-Star game with a left hamstring injury, so Team LeBron will need a replacement.

Harden was the last pick in the draft because LeBron James intentionally tried to get Kevin Durant, Harden’s former teammate, to pick him the day the blockbuster trade went down.

But with Harden out, NBA commissioner Adam Silver will pick an injury replacement, which he’s done twice already with LaMelo Ball and Dejounte Murray becoming first-time All-Stars.

Possible names from the Eastern Conference that would make sense: Jarrett Allen of the Cleveland Cavaliers, Pascal Siakam of the Toronto Raptors or Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics.
