The Honey Badger wants to lock down the borders

The Honey Badger has a few ideas about recruiting The Boot.

We’re not in *Missouri* anymore.

Kansas City Chiefs All-Pro safety Tyrann Mathieu took to Twitter to voice his opinion about national signing day.

Brian Kelly signed the No. 6 class in the country for his first season as the head coach of the Tigers according to overall class rankings that include transfers.

The class was headlined by five-star linebacker Harold Perkins and quarterback Walker Howard. Although the Tigers signed a great class, they missed out on a few players in their own backyard.

Alabama signed the top three wide receivers in the state of Louisiana with Aaron Anderson, Shazz Preston, and Kendrick Law. The top three running backs left the state as well. Le’Veon Moss went to Texas A&M, TreVonte’ Citizen opted for Miami and Trevor Etienne chose Florida. The top safety in the state Jacoby Mathews decided to join Moss with the Aggies.

Louisiana is a state that is rich with football talent and produces many top athletes every year. In Mathieu’s opinion, when he presumably comes back to coach at LSU, he will make sure that every player from “the great state of Louisiana” puts on for the boot. Brian Kelly is already a talented recruiter, but having Tyrann Mathieu as a part of his coaching staff would only boost his ability to recruit players from Louisiana.

The Honey Badger played at LSU for two seasons while totaling 133 tackles, four interceptions, and eight fumble recoveries. Mathieu may reside in Kansas City, Missouri, for now, but he wants to return to LSU to let top recruits know that “there’s no place like home.”

What Jaelyn Davis-Robinson brings to the LSU football team

LSU adds speeds to the team in Jaelyn Davis-Robinson.

The LSU Tigers added four-star cornerback Jaelyn Davis-Robinson; he chose LSU over Oregon. Davis-Robinson ranks as the No.47 cornerback and No.71 in this year’s class according to the 247Sports composite.

Davis-Robinson ran track in high school, and he ran a 10.6 in the 100 meters. As a result, he will be able to run with just about every receiver on the college level. Another plus is Davis-Robinson is not scared to get physical at the line of scrimmage. As a result, he could be an outstanding press-man corner on the college level.

With his speed, even if he missed the jam at the line, Davis-Robinson would be able to recover quickly. But to play press-man at the college level, Davis-Robinson will need to get bigger. He is currently 175 pounds. So he must get in the weight room and get stronger. Also, Davis-Robinson must work on his off-man coverage to be a complete corner. To improve off-man, he will need to quickly get out of his breaks and learn how to read the quarterback.

Davis-Robinson could develop into a high-level corner if he comes in and works hard on his skills. He already is a physical player, so everything else should fall into place if he is coachable.

LSU Football: What Harold Perkins Brings to LSU

LSU added one of the best players in the country in linebacker Harold Perkins

[mm-video type=video id=01fv118mprh5481gaqnn playlist_id=01eqbz5s7cf4w69e0n player_id=none image=https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/upload/video/thumbnail/mmplus/01fv118mprh5481gaqnn/01fv118mprh5481gaqnn-bb6ac9c49c9849d423f92bbd2919f2df.jpg]

The LSU Tigers football team added five-star linebacker Harold Perkins; he is the No. 5 prospect, No. 1 linebacker, and No. 1 in Texas according to the 247Sports composite. Perkins is from New Orleans, Louisiana but moved to Texas after Hurricane Katrina.

In high school, Perkins played on both sides of the ball. He is a very athletic linebacker that plays on the outside. Perkins is fast coming off the edge when pursuing the quarterback and can make a lot of chase-down tackles on the other side of the field.

Perkins is a good tackler, and he looks for the big hits. However, the linebacker will need to add weight to compete on the next level. With Perkins’s athleticism, added size could make him an unstoppable linebacker. Also, Perkins will have to improve his technique. Players will be bigger and just as fast as Perkins on the college level, so technique will be crucial, especially in pass coverage.

Perkins will be a great addition to the Tigers; he could develop into a dynamic player on defense that could take LSU to the next level. Perkins will join Micah Baskerville, Mike Jones Jr., Greg Penn III and Josh White at the linebacker this season.

What time are LSU targets announcing their commitments?

Who to watch for and when on National Signing Day.

A look at the top remaining targets ahead of signing day on Wednesday. We start with five-star safety Jacoby Mathews.

DB Jacoby Mathews

Mathews is scheduled to announce his commitment at 11 a.m. CT on Wednesday.

Matthews was committed to LSU for a few months last year. Now, this is a three-horse race with LSU, Florida and Texas A&M.

It seems Mathews is a slight lean to LSU with Florida just behind. However, Corey Raymond now being in Gainesville can’t be discounted. Raymond is the position coach Mathews committed to at LSU last spring.

247Sports lists Tommie Robison, another former LSU staffer, as Matthews’ primary recruiter for A&M.

Matthews is rated as a five-star by Rivals and a four-star by 247 Sports.

What Quency Wiggins could bring to LSU

A look at the newest LSU defensive lineman Quency Wiggins

The LSU Tigers landed four-star defensive lineman Quency Wiggins from Madison Prep. Wiggins is the No. 7 ranked prospect in Louisiana, ranked 15th of all defensive linemen, and 92nd overall prospect.

Wiggins finished his second year of high school football, and he helped lead Madison Prep to a 3A football and basketball championships in 2020-21. The 6’6″ 275 lb defensive lineman compiled 56 tackles, 26 TFLs, 13 sacks, four pass deflections, and three forced fumbles in his senior year.

Wiggins has good size and reach that should translate on the college level. However, the defensive lineman often saw double and triple teams all season. Wiggins is well equipped to handle double and triple teams with his size and strength. At his size, you would not think Wiggins is very athletic, but that is not the case; he can mobe an outstanding athlete.

The new recruit has shown a good football IQ; Wiggins can diagnose plays as they develop. At Madison Prep, Wiggins played both ends and tackle on the defensive line. At LSU, he probably will play end but could slide down to tackle if needed.

The Tigers will be getting a defensive lineman with a tremendous upside that someday could be a high draft pick. It will be up to Wiggins to take the teachings from the LSU defensive staff and apply it on the field.

Max Johnson and Deion Smith transferring from LSU, Jake Johnson decommitts

Rough stretch for LSU.

LSU Football lost a couple of key names to the transfer portal on Tuesday afternoon.

Sophomore quarterback Max Johnson tweeted that he would be playing elsewhere in 2022. It was also reported that sophomore WR and former blue-chip recruit Deion Smith would be joining him.

Johnson entered this season in an open competition with Myles Brennan. Before camp was even underway, Brennan got hurt and Johnson assumed the starting role.

Now a few months later, both Johnson and Brennan are in the transfer portal.

In his career at LSU, Johnson played in 18 games. He threw for 3,883 yards and 35 touchdowns. He was able to lead LSU to a couple of big wins, leading game-winning drives against Florida in 2020 and Texas A&M in 2021.

Smith did not see much time as a freshman in 2021. He had a big game against Central Michigan but dealt with an injury down the stretch. There is certainly talent there, and he should be a heavily coveted transfer.

In recruiting news, Max Johnson’s little brother, Jake announced he would be reopening his recruitment and decomitting from LSU. It makes sense given Max’s transfer. Jake was one of the top components of the 2022 recruiting class. They have one other tight end commit with Mason Taylor. It remains to be seen if he will stick with LSU.
