Which team has the advantage going into the East semis series between the Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks?

Whichever it is, this is a closely-matched series.

Who has the advantage in the 2022 Eastern Conference semifinals series about to take place between the Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks? The Bucks are the reigning NBA champions with a perennial Most Valuable Player (MVP) candidate in superstar forward Giannis Antetokokounmpo, but the Celtics were by far the best team in the league in 2022 in large part due to their own superstar forward Jayson Tatum making the leap to MVP-level play.

Boston has been keeping an eye on star forward Jaylen Brown’s tight hamstring, but Milwaukee will be without bonafide Celtics killer Khris Middleton for the series with an MCL sprain. Coach Mike Budenholzer has a title under his belt, but got his start with the San Antonio Spurs alongside Boston head coach Ime Udoka, with his former assistant Ben Sullivan now toting a Celtics clipboard in this series.

It’s a close matchup as things currently stand, and the hosts of the ESPN “NBA Today” show recently debated this topic.

Celtics Udoka says Jaylen Brown ‘doing well’ with hamstring; Brown says he should be ‘ready to roll’ vs. Milwaukee Bucks

So far, the Georgia native’s hamstring prognosis has been good.

One of the more important subplots heading into the East semifinals series between the Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks has been the status of star Celtics forward Jaylen Brown’s hamstring, which has been showing signs of tightness since Boston’s Game 4 win over the Brooklyn Nets.

Hamstring tightness isn’t in itself necessarily cause for great alarm, but it signals the likelihood of reinjury to that vital muscle group is high, so the Celtics have been proceeding with appropriate caution. Speaking to the media after practice on Saturday, Boston head coach Ime Udoka gave a brief update on Brown’s hamstring going into Game 1 of the second-round series.

“Jaylen is doing well the last few days,” related Udoka. “He looked good the last few days, felt good.”

Best of Boston Celtics – Milwaukee Bucks in the 2021-22 NBA regular season

Get a glimpse of how these teams might play each other in the East semis with this clip.

During the 2021-22 NBA regular season, the Boston Celtics and Milwaukee Bucks split their four games 2-2, with the Celtics’ two wins against the defending NBA champions coming in the first half of the season that saw Boston struggle considerably more than they did in the second half of the season in which the Bucks got both of their wins against the Celtics.

Now, in the 2022 Eastern Conference semifinals series the two are about to begin against each other, the two clubs are close to evenly matched with Milwaukee star forward Khris Middleton out for the series with a grade two MCL sprain to heal up.

With attention among fans and analysts turning to how each team might play the other, a look back at how things went the last four times the two teams played is not the worst place to start, and fan YouTuber Tomasz Kordylewski has put together a 2021-22 season highlight clip of the four times Boston and Milwaukee met on the court.

Check out the clip embedded above to see what this series might look like as it kicks off on Sunday afternoon.

What are the Boston Celtics’ keys to winning the Eastern Conference semifinals vs. the Milwaukee Bucks?

Can Boston survive and advance?

What is it going to take for the Boston Celtics to beat the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2022 NBA Eastern Conference playoffs? What are the Celtics’ and Bucks’ respective strengths and weaknesses? With both teams’ second-leading scorers either out injured or monitoring health to prevent injury, this second-round series is one of this year’s most anticipated.

To break down the above and more, NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Forsberg and Brian Scalabrine got together on a recent episode of the “Celtics Talk” podcast to talk about the looming Boston-Milwaukee series — and what would need to happen for the Celtics to advance.

The duo covers everything from why the Bucks tend to stink it up in Game 1 to just how big of a blow losing All-Star forward Khris Middleton is for Milwaukee.

Celtics Lab 107: Talking Celtics – Bucks tactical shifts in the East Semifinals with Jared Weiss

How will Boston need to change how they play in the second round if they want to beat the Bucks?

The Boston Celtics are soon to take on the reigning NBA champions in the 2022 Eastern Conference Semifinals after beating up on the Brooklyn Nets to get the sweep in the first round. But unlike the Nets, the Milwaukee Bucks are no slouch on the defensive end of the court, and could be just as dangerous or even more so putting points on the board as well.

How are the Celtics going to have to adapt their play if they want to have a shot at making the Eastern Conference Finals? What will the Bucks be looking to do against Boston? Perhaps even more importantly, how will the absence of All-Star Bucks forward Khris Middleton affect the series — and how much should we worry about star Celtics wing Jaylen Brown’s hamstring tightness?

To answer all these questions and more, we invited on The Athletic’s Jared Weiss to talk all things tactics between these two East juggernauts on the latest episode of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast.

‘Losing Middleton is a huge loss against a team like Boston’: JJ Redick on Celtics – Bucks

No matter how you slice it, it’s a tough loss.

The Boston Celtics are closely monitoring the tight hamstring of star forward Jaylen Brown ahead of their 2022 NBA Eastern Conference Semifinals series with the Milwaukee Bucks kicking off on Sunday afternoon, but at least for now find themselves in a better position healthwise than the reigning NBA champs. The Bucks recently got word they will be without their second-leading scorer — All-Star forward Khris Middleton — for the entirety of the series with a grade two MCL sprain.

This is of course a massive hit to Milwaukee’s depth in what could prove to be the toughest series either team plays in this postseason.

Can the Bucks beat Boston without their Celtics killer on the court? In a recent podcast, former NBAer and co-host of the “Old Man and the 3” pod JJ Redick breaks down how he sees the series going in the absence of Middleton on the parquet.

Check out the clip embedded above to hear what the Duke product has to say about Boston’s odds of making the Eastern Conference Finals this season in light of Milwaukee’s misfortune.

Will the Boston Celtics beat the Milwaukee Bucks in the Eastern Conference Semifinals?

As the series inches closer to a start, this is the question on everyone’s mind.

The Boston Celtics are facing off with the defending NBA champs, set to play the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2022 Eastern Conference Semifinals after beating the Brooklyn Nets 4 – 0 in the first round of the East postseason. And while the Nets may have had two of the greatest offensive players in the modern game in Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, Brooklyn also had a lot of obvious faults Boston could pick on to get the win.

Not so much with the Bucks, whose biggest issue at the moment is the likely series-long absence of their second-leading scorer, All-Star forward Khris Middleton, due to a sprained MCL. And with the Celtics closely monitoring star forward Jaylen Brown’s hamstring tightness not to lose their own second-leading scorer, this series is a lot closer on both ends than the last.

Who will win the East Semifinals given all of this context?

Celtics president Brad Stevens, coach Ime Udoka share status of Jaylen Brown’s hamstring tightness ahead of Bucks series

The Georgia native felt tightness in game 4 vs. the Nets that has lingered.

A subtle but important wrinkle lingering from the Boston Celtics’ Game 4 win over the Brooklyn Nets is the status of star Celtics forward Jaylen Brown’s hamstring, which the Georgia native let slip had been tight in that game in a postgame sideline interview.

At present, it seems that Boston has the clear advantage in the team’s Eastern Conference Semifinals series with the Milwaukee Bucks with Milwaukee’s second-leading scorer — forward Khris Middleton — out for the entirety of the series. But that could shift to a dead heat if Brown ends up needing to sit out as well. In his usual weekly appearance on WEEI’s “Toucher and Rich” show, Boston team president Brad Stevens shared some information on the status of the Cal-Berkeley product’s hamstring.

“There’s some concern,” said Stevens. “He was definitely tight, even the next day.”

Milwaukee Bucks beat Chicago Bulls 4-1; second-round series schedule with Boston Celtics set

These are the dates the games will take place on.

We finally know for certain who the Boston Celtics will face in the 2022 NBA Eastern Conference semifinals a few days after the Celtics swept the Brooklyn Nets in the East’s first round. There had been a shot for the Chicago Bulls to come from behind in their series with the reigning NBA champs in the Milwaukee Bucks, but on Wednesday night, the Bucks sent the Bulls out to pasture for the season.

Now, Boston will take on Milwaukee in a best-of-seven series with home-court advantage and a healthier roster on their side. The Bucks dodged the Nets in the first round by resting players at the end of the season, only to lose forward Khris Middleton to injury for at least part of the second round.

Even without the sharpshooting swingman, the Celtics will have their work cut out for them with Giannis Antetokounmpo looming large on Boston’s playoff radar.

Let’s take a look at the dates the series will be played on, courtesy of The Athletic’s John Hollinger.

Can the Boston Celtics get by the Milwaukee Bucks in the East semifinals?

And if so, what is going to have to happen in the next round?

The Boston Celtics are staring down a collision with the defending NBA champions in the 2022 NBA Eastern Conference semifinals after sweeping the preseason title favorites, Brooklyn Nets, in the first round.

Superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo looms large on the Celtics’ postseason horizon.

Boston will face its first elite defense of the 2022 playoffs, though it is increasingly likely the Bucks will not have marksman Khris Middleton for the Celtics series due to a sprained MCL. Despite that, the series still shapes up as perhaps the most intense of the playoffs.

Can Boston get past the Bucks? How will they have to change how they play in this series? What will be crucial to a Celtics series win?

The hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast dug into Boston’s second-round opponent in their most recent episode — check out the clip embedded above to hear all things Celtics-Bucks.
