Cowboys open as underdogs to 49ers, again play final game of weekend

A look at the referee assignment, opening lines and history behind all of it. Interesting Prescott and over/under tidbit await. | From @KDDrummondNFL

The Dallas Cowboys don’t have long to savor their emphatic, 31-14 defeat of the greatest quarterback of all time. No, after slaying their road playoff demons, their grass field demons, and their voodoo QB demons, there is no rest for the weary. The team celebrated their wild-card round victory but almost to a man spoke of the turning of the page.

That’s key, because Dallas was slotted in the final wild-card window, a Monday night game, and now are going to face off against a team that played on Saturday afternoon, just shy of 60 hours of extra rest. Now they’ll look to slay the “longest winning streak in the NFL demon” while avenging their early 2021 playoff exit. Here’s the scoop.

NFL sets Divisional Round schedule: Times, days, and networks

The NFL Divisional Round schedule is set for January 21 and 22

All eight teams are set for the divisional round of the NFL playoffs with the Dallas Cowboys drubbing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday to settle the final spot.

The schedule is known for next weekend.

On Saturday, the Jacksonville Jaguars will play the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead. The kickoff is set for 4:30 p.m. ET and the game will be on NBC.

The Jaguars lost to the Chiefs in the regular season, 27-17.

That evening, NFC East rivals meet on FOX Sports as the New York Giants travel down the New Jersey Turnpike to face the NFC’s top seed, the Philadelphia Eagles. Kickoff is 8:15 p.m. ET.

This will be the third meeting for these teams and Philly won both in the regular season.

On Sunday, CBS will have the first game.

The Cincinnati Bengals will face the Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium in Western New York.

The Bengals and Bills had their game canceled in the regular season when Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest in the first quarter and was rushed to UC Medical Center.

Kickoff for this contest is at 3 p.m. ET.

The final game will take place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Ca, on FOX Sports, with the Cowboys facing the San Francisco 49ers.

That game starts at 6:30 p.m. ET.

Here’s how Derrick Henry plans to play vs. Bengals 11 weeks after foot surgery

He had surgery HOW many weeks ago??

Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry was well on his way to a third consecutive rushing title when disaster struck in Week 8. Unbeknownst to him at the time, Henry suffered a broken foot in an overtime win over Indianapolis. He quickly underwent surgery, and he was sidelined for the rest of the season with many expecting we wouldn’t see him again until the 2022 season.

Just 11 weeks later, Henry plans to suit up on Saturday as the Titans, the AFC’s No. 1 seed, preparer to make their postseason debut against a Cincinnati Bengals team coming off a win in the wild-card round over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Henry has modern medicine to thank for such a rapid turnaround, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Henry’s quick return to the field will be made possible by an elaborate set-up of metal screws and plates both inside his shoe and inside his actual foot. Here’s the medical explanation for the plates, per Rapoport.

The metal plate is a modified orthotic to protect the foot from stress and stop it from flexing. It takes pressure off the repaired area to keep it safe while he’s running and cutting. He can run without any reservations.

As for the plate, it’s considered more secure and stable than simply inserting a screw into the repaired metatarsal. Henry actually has one plate and five screws in his foot.

The thought of playing a football game 11 weeks after fracture-repairing surgery with a foot filled with metal makes me a bit woozy, to be honest, but I guess not all of us can be Derrick Henry.

Though it would be reasonable to assume Henry will not be 100 percent for Saturday’s Divisional Round matchup, he is not on a set snap count and will not be limited against the Bengals unless he suffers a mid-game setback, according to ESPN NFL reporter Dianna Russini.

However, even if Henry is at 100 percent, this Kansas City Chiefs fan has an outside-the-box strategy for slowing down the league’s best running back.

It might just be crazy enough to work.

X-Men notwithstanding, Henry’s return should provide a major boost for Tennessee, whose offense was never quite the same without the reigning First-Team All-Pro despite ultimately finishing with the best record in the conference.

NFL Playoffs Divisional Round: Prop bets, DFS bargains, and deciphering the Bengals

Let’s find some betting value in the NFL Playoffs.

The NFL’s Super Wild Card Weekend, replete with the first-ever Monday Night Football playoff game, was a bust.

The 2022 playoff debut was a smorgasbord of sloppy play and blowout wins. The Cincinnati Bengals won their first playoff game in three decades because the Las Vegas Raiders spent much of the first half finding new and creative ways to shoot themselves in the foot. The Dallas Cowboys lost for several reasons, chief among them a quarterback draw play called with 14 seconds left and zero timeouts in a six-point game. Two-thirds of the games in the opening round of the playoffs were decided by 16 points or more.

The landscape is much more appealing in the Divisional Round. The Tennessee Titans and Green Bay Packers join the fray after earning byes through the regrettable three-day appetizer of bean curd and expired string cheese the Wild Card round cooked up. Matthew Stafford’s prove-it tour takes a detour though Tampa against a quarterback with 34 more playoff wins than he has. The Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs may be the truest Super Bowl of 2022.

This weekend isn’t just about compelling matchups; it’s also an opportunity to find some value in the betting and daily fantasy landscape. Wild Card Weekend was a fairly predictable slog for the chalky teams out there, but it threw some curveballs our way when it came to prop bets and unheralded players rising to the top (Jerick McKinnon!).

Let’s see if we can’t hammer down a few solid predictions for the Divisional Round. All odds via Tipico.
