NFL free agency opens on March 17 at 4 p.m. eastern time. Pittsburgh’s salary cap space seems to be changing by the hour, but it currently stands at $5.055 million without calculating the tender figure on outside linebacker Robert Spillane or the signing of offensive lineman B.J. Finney.
The Steelers could create more cap room in the days leading up to free agency by restructuring contracts of (at least) kicker Chris Boswell, safety Joe Haden and defensive end Stephon Tuitt. Reworking Tuitt’s contract could free up $4 million in cap room.
Pittsburgh has already restructured contracts of Ben Roethlisberger, defensive end Cam Heyward and fullback Derek Watt.
Will the team cut, re-sign, restructure any more contracts between now and Wednesday? Steelers Wire is your source to track the comings and goings. Be sure to check back for updates!
