NFC playoff races tighten after Washington’s Week 14 loss

The NFC playoff picture is tight. And there are several huge games on the horizon in Week 15.

With so many teams still alive for division titles and wild card births, the NFL Playoff picture understandably needs to be updated every week, so that fans are aware where their team actually stands.

Washington falling to Dallas 27-20, fell from the number six seed to number seven. Even more significant is Washington, Minnesota, Philadelphia, Atlanta and New Orleans all currently have identical 6-7 records through the Week 14 games.

Both the Eagles and Washington do have one game remaining with Dallas (9-4). Yet, with Dallas leading the division by three games with four to play, it would take a Cowboy collapse for the WFT or the Eagles to have a chance at the division.

Consequently, the Washington games against Philadelphia are of much greater import, and in the next three weeks, the two teams face each other twice.

There will be quite interesting match ups of other teams both competing for playoff spots:

The Falcons will battle the 49ers, Bills and Saints.

The Saints will face the Bucs, Dolphins and Falcons.

The Vikings will face the Rams and Packers.

The 49ers (7-6) and the current number six seed still have the Falcons, Titans and Rams on their schedule.

Might the playoff picture perhaps be even tighter following the Week 15 games?

PFT talks NFC Wild Cards and Washington

Pro Football Talk discussed Washington’s Wild Card chances.

“Which two teams are we most confident in to earn the final two NFC Wild Card spots?”

Mike Florio and Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk discussed this very aspect of NFC Wild Card teams, Tuesday.

Charean Williams did not hesitate, stating confidently, “Well, I am going with Washington.”

I have set the video to go directly to the discussion regarding the NFC Wild Cards (earlier, they had also discussed who would have the AFC home field in the playoffs. Florio took New England, and Williams selected Kansas City).

Both Florio and Williams praised WFT head coach Ron Rivera’s job this 2021 season for maintaining his leadership voice in the locker room, despite Washington having experienced their horrendous 2-6 start.

With wins over Tampa Bay, Carolina, Seattle, and now Las Vegas, Washington has won two at home and two on the road, thus raising awareness around the NFL and NFL media groups.

Washington Wire is certainly growing in confidence as well regarding the WFT’s ability to stay together and fight together down the final five-game NFC East stretch of the schedule.
