2021 St. Louis Cardinals World Series, win total, pennant and division odds

Looking at the 2021 MLB futures for the St. Louis Cardinals, including odds for the World Series, pennant, division and their projected win total.

In last year’s shortened season, the St. Louis Cardinals finished 30-28. They placed second in the NL Central Division and qualified for a second-consecutive postseason. Below, we look at the St. Louis Cardinals’ MLB futures odds, including their projected 2021 win total and World Series odds at BetMGM.

The Cardinals were one of four NL Central teams to make the 2020 playoffs, joined by the first-place Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds and Milwaukee Brewers. Unfortunately, all four were eliminated in the first round with the Cardinals getting shut out 4-0 in a deciding Game 3 vs. the San Diego Padres.

St. Louis made the biggest MLB news in the offseason by trading for 3B Nolan Arenado. The five-time All-Star and eight-time Gold Glove winner hit .300 and averaged 39.8 homers and 124.2 RBIs for the Colorado Rockies between 2015-19. With the unique short season last year, he struggled to get into a groove, hitting a career-low .253 with 8 homers and 26 RBIs in 48 games.

The Cardinals’ other big offseason news was re-signing C Yadier Molina and RHP Adam Wainwright.

They did lose two-time Gold Glove 2B Kolten Wong, who signed a free-agent deal with the rival Brewers and traded OF Dexter Fowler to the Los Angeles Angels.

The rotation, which ranked fifth in the NL with a 3.86 ERA, remains mostly intact with Wainwright, RHP Jack Flaherty and LHP Kwang Hyun Kim. RHP Miles Mikolas is expected back after missing last season due to surgery on his right arm, while the Cards look to replace RHP Dakota Hudson, who had Tommy John surgery last September.

St. Louis Cardinals’ 2021 World Series odds

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Thursday, March 11 at 1:12 a.m. ET.

Odds: +2200 (bet $100 to win $2,200)

The Los Angeles Dodgers (+350) are the favorites, followed by the New York Yankees (+550), Chicago White Sox (+900) and Padres (+900).

At +2200, the Cardinals have the shortest odds out of the NL Central. Their implied probability of winning the World Series is 4.35% or 22/1 fractional odds. With Arenado added to the mix and a decent pitching staff, a World Series futures bet on ST. LOUIS (+2200) is a decent value play.

The biggest long shots are the Pittsburgh Pirates (+20000) with an implied probability of 0.50% or 200/1.

St. Louis Cardinals’ 2021 win total

Over/Under: 86.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

Not counting last year’s shortened season, the Cardinals have won at least 87 games seven out of the past nine 162-game campaigns. St. Louis always seems to be in the hunt, and it should be there again. Bet OVER 86.5 (-110).

Odds to win the NL Central Division

  • Cardinals: +105 (bet $100 to win $105)
  • Reds +333 (bet $100 to win $333)
  • Brewers: +375 (bet $100 to win $375)
  • Cubs: +500 (bet $100 to win $500)
  • Pirates: +6600 (bet $100 to win $6,600)

St. Louis’ implied probability of winning the division is 48.78% or 21/20 fractional odds. The risk isn’t worth the reward. AVOID.

Odds to win the National League

Odds: +1300 (bet $100 to win $1,300)

While the Cards have the shortest odds among all NL Central teams, they’re fifth on the board when it comes to the NL.

The Dodgers (+180) are the favorites, followed by the Padres (+425), Atlanta Braves (+600) and New York Mets (+600). At the other end, the Pirates (+10000) are the longest shots.

At +1300, the Cardinals’ implied probability of representing the NL in the World Series is 7.14% or 13/1 fractional odds. I don’t feel it’s a big enough payoff, so I’m going to PASS.

2021 Chicago Cubs World Series, win total, pennant and division odds

Looking at the 2021 MLB futures for the Chicago Cubs, including odds for the World Series, pennant, division and their projected win total.

The Chicago Cubs enter the upcoming season as defending NL Central champions. They finished 34-26 last year and made the postseason for the fifth time in the last six seasons. Below, we look at the Chicago Cubs’ MLB futures odds, including their projected 2021 win total and World Series odds at BetMGM.

Unfortunately, Chicago was swept out of an NL Wild Card Series last season by the Miami Marlins, scoring just one run in two games.

The rotation will look very different. RHP Kyle Hendricks (6-5, 2.88 ERA last season) likely will be the Opening Day starter, but gone are RHP Yu Darvish (now with the San Diego Padres), LHP Jon Lester (Washington Nationals) and RHP Tyler Chatwood (Toronto Blue Jays).

RHP Jake Arrieta, who won two World Series games for the Cubs in 2016 following his 2015 NL Cy Young campaign, returns to the North Side after three seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Also new are RHP Zach Davies (7-4, 2.73 ERA with the Padres last season), acquired as part of the Darvish trade, and RHP Trevor Williams (2-8, 6.18 ERA with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2020).

Offensively, the Cubs added former Los Angeles Dodgers OF Joc Pederson, who hit 36 homers in 2019 but will need to improve on last season’s .190 batting average. The World Series champ replaces Cubs fan favorite LF Kyle Schwarber, who signed with the Nationals.

Chicago Cubs’ 2021 World Series odds

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Thursday, March 11 at 12:57 a.m. ET.

Odds: +4000 (bet $100 to win $4,000)

The Dodgers (+350) are the favorites, followed by the New York Yankees (+550), Chicago White Sox (+900) and Padres (+900). The shortest odds out of the NL Central belong to the St. Louis Cardinals (+2200).

At +4000, the Cubs are in the middle of the field with an implied probability of winning the World Series at 2.44% or 40/1 fractional odds. With a nucleus of 1B Anthony Rizzo, SS Javier Baez and 3B Kris Bryant, a small bet on the CUBS (+4000) is worth the risk.

The Pirates are the biggest long shots at +20000, which is an implied probability of 0.50% or 200/1. The Texas Rangers are next at +15000. That’s an implied probability of 0.66% or 150/1.

Chicago Cubs’ 2021 win total

Over/Under: 78.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

The Cubs finished the last six seasons above .500. I’ll stick with that trend and back OVER 78.5 (-110).

Odds to win the NL Central Division

  • Cardinals: +105 (bet $100 to win $105)
  • Cincinnati Reds +333 (bet $100 to win $333)
  • Milwaukee Brewers: +375 (bet $100 to win $375)
  • Cubs: +500 (bet $100 to win $500)
  • Pirates: +6600 (bet $100 to win $6,600)

The Cubs’ implied probability of winning the division is 16.67% or 5/1 fractional odds. With a 5-to-1 payoff, a small wager on the CUBS (+500) is a decent play – especially in this division.

Odds to win the National League

Odds: +2200 (bet $100 to win $2,200)

Eight teams have shorter odds than the Cubs. The Dodgers (+180) are the favorites, and the Pirates (+10000) are the longest shots.

At +2200, the Cubs’ implied probability of winning the NL pennant is 4.35% or 22/1 fractional odds.

Again, in this division, the CUBS (+2200) are not a bad bet.

2021 Washington Nationals World Series, win total, pennant and division odds

Looking at the 2021 MLB futures for the Washington Nationals, including odds for the World Series, NL, division and their projected win total.

The Washington Nationals won the 2019 World Series and then fell back to the pack in last year’s pandemic-shortened season, going 26-34 over 60 games. We look at the Washington Nationals’ MLB futures odds, including their projected 2021 win total and World Series odds at BetMGM.

The 2020 Nats went a woeful 15-28 from Aug. 5-Sept. 20. Washington logged above-average offensive numbers during that stretch; the Nationals would post an above-average .769 team OPS for the season. Pitching was the culprit. Over its shaky 43-game run in August and September, Washington registered a 5.71 team ERA. For the season, the Nats ranked 25th in MLB with a 5.09 ERA.

LF Juan Soto, who slashed his way to a .351 batting average, .490 on-base percentage and .695 slugging percentage, and SS Trea Turner (.335/.394/.588) led Washington’s offense, finishing fifth and seventh, respectively, in NL MVP voting. RHP Max Scherzer logged a 3.74 ERA in 12 starts to lead the pitching staff. RHP Stephen Strasburg (3.32 ERA in 2019) missed all but two starts due to injury.

In the offseason, Washington added LHP Brad Hand to shore up the bullpen. 1B Josh Bell and OF Kyle Schwarber bolster the batting order. The Nationals will be looking for all three to have bounce-back numbers after lackluster 2020 campaigns.

Washington Nationals’ 2021 World Series odds

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated Wednesday, March 10 at 1:15 p.m. ET.

Odds: +3500 (bet $100 to win $3,500)

The +3500 tag is a midrange price comparative to the league.

At +3500, the Nationals’ implied probability of winning the World Series is 2.78% or 35/1 fractional odds.

Washington Nationals’ 2021 win total

Over/Under: 84.5 (O: -110 | U: -110)

The addition of Hand helps, and so does getting a healthy Strasburg back in the starting rotation. 2B Starlin Castro also returns to the lineup.

Pitching-wise, Washington is constructed for pre-2020 ball. The six-man rotation (six-and-a-half, even?), starter depth and bullpen depth that were such important factors two years ago likely will be again in 2021.

And then there is a talented NL East the Nats find themselves battling in the lion’s share of their schedule. Peg the baseline being about an 80-win team  that improves by three or four games.

The lean isn’t a major one, but IT IS A LEAN ON THE UNDER 84.5 (-110).

Odds to win the NL East Division

  • Atlanta Braves: +130 (bet $100 to win $130)
  • New York Mets: +150 (bet $100 to win $150)
  • Nationals: +650 (bet $100 to win $650)
  • Philadelphia Phillies: +800 (bet $100 to win $800)
  • Marlins: +1600 (bet $100 to win $1,600)

Odds to win the National League

Odds: +2000 (bet $100 to win $2,000)

Again, a price middling the likes of the Los Angeles Dodgers (+175) and San Diego Padres (+400) at one end and the Arizona Diamondbacks (+5000) and Pittsburgh Pirates (+8000) at the other.
