WATCH: How can the Boston Celtics take the next step towards winning a title?

What tools do they have to work with, and where might they look to use them?

The Boston Celtics need to get better, but find themselves in a bit of a cash crunch when it comes to the salary cap, and traded away this season’s first-round draft pick. So how in the world are they going to do it?

The team actually has a fairly impressive array of salary cap and traded player exceptions, controls all their future draft picks, and have a more varied array of salaries on their books with some potentially intriguing prospects, for starters. But if you want to hear some more concrete proposals, NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Forsberg and Chris Mannix have some specific ideas on what the Celtics ought to be considering in a new edition of the “Early Edition” show.

Watch the video embedded below to hear their takes on how Boston can team build with the assets and exceptions they have under their control, and see which options sound best to you.

What veteran players might the Boston Celtics target with the taxpayer MLE?

Boston may elect to use this team-building tool on a veteran for 2021-22.

The Boston Celtics have a limited range of tools at their disposal to build a team for their upcoming 2021-22 campaign given their rising payroll and lack of cap space it will create as they almost certainly end up a taxpaying team. But one tool they can use to add talent in free agency despite such a likely status is the taxpayer or mini mid-level exception (MLE), which will come in at about $5.9 million next season.

We previously outlined how the Celtics might choose to use that tool to bring on youth that will fit the age curve of a young, rising team. But there’s at least as good of an argument for bringing on some veteran voices to help keep the locker room on an even keel after a tough season in 2020-21 led to some disappointing outcomes for Boston.

Let’s review some of the players who might fit such a description.

With some significant constraints, Boston needs to build a compelling roster – but how?

The Boston Celtics may have their work cut out for them when it comes to putting the finishing touches on getting the 2021-22 roster together, with a surging payroll due to All-Star forward Jayson Tatum‘s contract structure kicking in and (hopefully) re-signing veteran shooting guard Evan Fournier.

What are their options for making the team better? They will have no available cap space to sign free agents outright but have an array of cap exceptions they can use to navigate that issue. And the trade market is of course always an option — but who should they target? NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Forsberg is joined by Boston Sports Journal’s John Karalis to talk how the Celtics can get better this offseason in the latest edition of the “Celtics Talk” podcast.

Watch it for yourself in the video linked below to get their takes on who the Celtics ought to be looking into bringing on the team, and see if their ideas mesh with your own,

Key dates for the Boston Celtics up until the start of the 2021-22 NBA season

All the important dates you should keep an eye on until Game 1 of next season tips off.

The Boston Celtics have already radically reshaped their front office and coaching staffs, traded away a starter who was the last big free agent signing of the team and their first-round draft pick for 2021 while they did it, and the offseason ahead of the 2021-22 NBA season has hardly even started, with two teams still duking it out in the NBA Finals.

But there’s still plenty of work to do and key dates it needs to happen by for the Celtics and new President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens. There’s enough it can be a little dizzying to the casual fan trying to keep tabs on what their favorite team still needs to do — and when.

To that end, we put together a list of all the key dates of major decision points remaining in the offseason, as well as other key events that will shape the team’s offseason. Let’s take a look at what still could be on the horizon and the dates on which it would need to occur.

Celtics announce partnership with fan engagement experts Socios

The blockchain trailblazing, fan engagement specialists will be taking on a considerable front-facing role with the franchise.

The Boston Celtics announced their new partnership with the leading blockchain provider for the global sports and entertainment industry, Socios.com on Wednesday via a press release, who they plan on having as the presenting partner of the Celtics’ website.

This partnership will place it at the nexus of relevant news, updates, video highlights, and information pertaining to the team, coordinating with various Socios.com international marketing activities. Socios is perhaps best known for their “Fan Tokens”, which, while not yet part of the partnership agreement, represent a novel form of fan engagement that allow fans to vote for and otherwise influence team decisions.

“A large part of the Celtics brand is made up of the great fans that support the organization across local, national, and global levels, and we’re excited to find a partner that values fan engagement as much as we do,” shared Socios Senior Vice President Ted Dalton.
