Report: Steve Kerr said Team USA coaches still planning for Olympics

An IOC official is confident the Tokyo Olympics will go as scheduled this summer.

The NBA could possibly return from its suspension by July, but the coronavirus has still put the league and the rest of the world in a realm of uncertainty.

With it being an Olympic year, an IOC leader said this week he is confident the games will go on as planned this summer, per ABC News.

Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr, who is on the Team USA coaching staff, told reporters in a Tuesday conference call that the staff is still preparing as if the Olympics are regularly scheduled.

The Tokyo Olympics are slated to run from July 24-Aug. 9.

“Pop and I have spoken a couple of times over the last week or so,” Kerr said, per ESPN’s Nick Friedell. “And everything’s just up in the air. There’s no sense of whether things are going to be delayed or anything. We’re all kind of sitting here wondering what’s going to happen, and so is the rest of the world. We’re just going to plan as if this is going to happen, and we’re going to try and put together a roster, and that’s all we can do.”

Depending on how long the NBA suspension lasts, player participation could be affected in this year’s games. Right now, a wait-and-see approach is really the only one available.
