The opening round is here.

The 2020 Mountain West basketball tournament is set and the first day of competition at the Thomas & Mack features the six through 11 seeds.

These games are a formality as the odds of any of these teams making a tournament run is unlikely, however, New Mexico is in good position to make some noise as they are likely to defeat San Jose State in the opening round game and then get a rematch vs. Utah State who they beat in the season finale.

However, prior to that upset win, the Lobos lost five in a row and had just one win over nine games. Perhaps New Mexico has turned things around and can make it to the semifinals.

Colorado State is the other team that could win one, maybe two games in the tournament as star players can make a difference. The Rams have one of the best players in the league in Nico Carvacho who averaged a double-double this year.
