NBA’s ‘Top 50 assists of the 2021-22 season’ clip features Boston Celtics

The creativity and effectiveness of Boston’s ball movement caught the attention of the folks in the league office.

At the end of the 2020-21 NBA season, the Boston Celtics were the 25th-worst team in the NBA in assists per game.

On the court, that led to the team underachieving, given the level of talent on the team. But after head coach Brad Stevens yielded the reins to his successor, Ime Udoka, and make the leap to team president, the Celtics’ assists rate jumped to 14th by the end of the 2021-22 Celtics season.

The creativity and effectiveness of Boston’s ball movement caught the attention of the folks in the league office as well. They included the Celtics in the NBA’s “Top 50 assists of the 2021-22 NBA season” clip they recently released to keep us occupied in the dog days of summer.

Take a look at the clip embedded below to see which dimes from Boston’s players were worthy of the honor while we wait for preseason basketball to arrive in October.

Boston Celtics rank 5th in NBA for hours lost in COVID-19 protocols, 10th in WARP lost in new ESPN report

For the second season in a row, Boston is among league leaders in this unenviable statistic.

The Boston Celtics were among the NBA’s hardest-hit teams by COVID-19 in their 2020-21 season in the league, and if it feels like they are again in 2021-22, you would not be wrong according to a new report released by ESPN senior writer Kevin Pelton.

Pelton recently published an article detailing the impact of players going into the league’s health and safety protocols this season, and for the second campaign in a row, Boston finds itself in the NBA’s top five teams which have been impacted by COVID-19. They happen to check in at fifth overall, in fact, just behind the Chicago Bulls, Philadelphia 76ers, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Atlanta Hawks, in that order.

Pelton also tracked the Wins above replacement player lost (WARP lost), which is calculated via each players’ per-game rating multiplied by games missed, according to Pelton, in which the Celtics rank 10th in the league.

This, in effect, means that while Boston has been hit pretty hard recently, it has also fared considerably better than many teams in terms of the importance of the players it has lost.

A small consolation that, but for a team already so familiar with the impact of this pandemic on their play, any silver lining is better than none.

21 moments to remember for the Boston Celtics in 2021

21 moments to remember for the Boston Celtics in 2021

Every year is filled with memorable moments, even the bad ones. And for most of us, 2021 was by no means a good year for the most part with a pandemic churning and hosts of other issues tied to it and otherwise generally making life harder for all of us, the Boston Celtics included.

But like us, there were plenty of moments worth remembering as the old year passes into the new one, with much of it a potential foundation for greater things for the Celtics and hopefully for the rest of us as well. And while this is by no means an exhaustive or even definitive list of such moments Boston’s fans will look back on kindly, it is our list of the top 21 moments for the Celtics in 2021.

Let’s take a look at them all, in no particular order.

WATCH: What were the best moments of the Boston Celtics in 2021?

In a tough year for every NBA team, what stood out about the Celtics?

What were the Boston Celtics’ top moments from 2021? It has been a most eventful year in many ways both on the court and off — and not always for the right reasons, either.

In a year marked out by the ongoing pandemic, teams struggling to adapt to it, and the Celtics in particular being among the most affected by it, achievements for the team need to be recognized in the context in which they occurred. And while not everything went Boston’s way by a country mile, there were certainly things to recall from the last 364 days of the year worth remembering.

The hosts of the NBC Sports Boston’s regular television segment “Forsberg’s Four” Chris Forsberg and Amina Smith laid out the four best moments for the Celtics in the last year in the clip embedded below.
