Tennessee football history: 1892

The University of Tennessee has fielded a football team since 1891. Vols Wire takes a look at each Tennessee football team through its history that includes, six national championships, 13 Southeastern Conference championships, two Southern Conference championships and one Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship.

1892 record: 2-5

Tennessee recorded its first win in program history on Oct. 15, 1892 with a 25-0* victory at Maryville.

The Vols would be victorious one other time in 1892 with a 16-6 win over the Chattanooga Athletic Club on Nov. 12.

Tennessee began its football series with Vanderbilt, playing and losing to the Commodores twice: Oct. 21 in Nashville, 22-4, and Nov. 17 in Knoxville, 12-0.

Tennessee also played Sewanee twice and were defeated both times: Oct. 24 at Sewanee, 54-0, and Nov. 2 in Knoxville, 10-0.

The Vols concluded the 1892 campaign with a 10-6 home loss to Wake Forest on Nov. 24.

Tennessee played home games at Waite Field in 1892 and did not have a head coach.
