Cowboys RB Tony Pollard nearing 1,000-yard season; why it may not matter

From @ToddBrock24f7: Pollard needs 73 yards to set a new personal best, but rushing stats have changed and may not be enough to keep him in in Dallas.

Tony Pollard is 65 rushing yards away from his second straight 1,000-yard season. Another eight yards on top of that, and he’ll have a new career high. Both numbers are very much attainable in the team’s regular-season finale versus Washington, where the starters will be playing for a win so as to clinch the No. 2 seed and at least one home date in the playoffs.

But to hear much of Cowboys Nation tell it, the 26-year-old Pollard is as washed as an old pair of dad jeans. It’s why there’s been so much speculation about whether the front office should try to land Dalvin Cook after his surprise release from the Jets. Current Dallas backup Rico Dowdle has been serviceable when healthy, but the team hasn’t gotten much from fullback Hunter Luepke and even less from draft-weekend darling Deuce Vaughn and practice squad fixture Malik Davis.

Seahawks WR DK Metcalf leads league in receiving yards at 1039

The Seattle Seahawks earned themselves a 23-17 win Monday night over the Philadelphia Eagles and second-year wide receiver DK Metcalf was a big part of the victory equation.

During his impressive performance in Week 12, Metcalf set a number of personal bests. First, he became just the ninth player in franchise history to log a 1000-yard season.

Finally, through 12 weeks of the NFL regular season, Metcalf now leads the league in receiving yards at 1039 on the year . . . and his best is likely yet to come.

VOTE: Seahawks RB Chris Carson for FedEx Ground Player of the Week

For his efforts against the Panthers, Seattle Seahawks running back Chris Carson has been nominated for the FedEx Ground Player of Week 15.

For his efforts on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, Seattle Seahawks running back Chris Carson has been nominated for the FedEx Ground Player of Week 15.

In the Seahawks win over the Panthers, Carson logged 24 carries for 133 yards and two touchdowns on the day.

“The way Chris ran – I thought Chris ran as well as he’s ever run,” coach Pete Carroll said Monday. “Just consistently attacking with big finishes to his runs, which is really his highlight aspect. The touchdown one on fourth and one. The first touchdown he had, the finish there. Couple short yard shots, too, and all that. Gets us to demonstrate the style that we love to play in. It really accentuates the guys up front doing a good job. That’s really positive.”

Carson now has 270 touches for 1,190 yards on the year, his second consecutive season rushing for over 1000 yards.

You can vote Carson the FedEx Ground Player of the Week by clicking on the above tweet or visiting the NFL’s website.
