After catcher Sydney Stewart entered the transfer portal on Wednesday morning, seven members of the Washington Huskies will be looking for new homes before the 2025 season. Stewart looked like she was coming into her own during her sophomore season and would be a building block for coach Heather Tarr’s lineup next year.
Stewart impressed at the plate with her .321 batting average and 1.006 OPS, adding 5 home runs and 18 runs batted in while assuming the majority of the defensive duties behind the plate, appearing in 45 and starting 44 of the team’s 47 games.
She made just 3 errors on 248 chances this season, good for a .988 fielding percentage, and combined with her strong year at the plate, earned her a spot on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association’s All-Pacific Region Third Team.
Stewart’s best game of the year came at the end of the season against the Utah Utes, where she tied a program record with three doubles in the same game. Her departure also means that between the transfer portal and graduation, Tarr will have to replace the top 7 run producers from last year’s team.
