If you’re reading this right now, it might be the middle of Super Bowl 55 and you’ve suddenly realized: there’s no ad from Budweiser or Coca-Cola or Pepsi, or a few other notable companies that usually have commercials during the big game.
Why is that?
The answer sort of depends on what each of those companies and brands has said. In the case of Budweiser — per USA TODAY — the brand announced it won’t have an ad this year last month, and it said “in a news release that instead of paying to air a Super Bowl ad, it will instead be ‘reallocating the media investment’ to raise awareness about the COVID-19 vaccine throughout the year, in partnership with the Ad Council.”
Coca-Cola announced (via Variety) “it would not run ads in CBS’ broadcast of Super Bowl LV, citing a ‘difficult choice’ made to ‘ensure we are investing in the right resources during these unprecedented times.'”
Pepsi is still the sponsor of the halftime show, but there will be no ad as PepsiCo concentrates on that.
Other brands you won’t see include Hyundai, Little Caesars and Olay.
