The Phoenix Suns have assigned rookie guard Ty Jerome to the Northern Arizona Suns of the G League, the team announced on Monday afternoon.
Jerome has not yet appeared in a game for the Suns after suffering a sprained right ankle in practice on Oct. 21. He was seen in the days following the injury in a walking boot but has since returned to doing some light work on the court.
Suns head coach Monty Williams said last week that Jerome is progressing every day in his recovery but was still unsure of a return date. The move to send Jerome to the G League was likely designed to be a rehab assignment to get practice and some playing time with Northern Arizona.
With Jerome set to spend some time in the G League, he could be nearing a return to the court. The 24th overall selection hinted on Instagram a few days ago that he would be returning soon so his NBA debut may be coming sooner than later after his stint in the G League.

Jerome did not play with the Suns in Summer League after he was involved in a draft-night trade. In four preseason games, Jerome averaged 6.8 points, 3.8 assists and one steal while shooting 45.8% from the field.
The NAZ Suns play next on Wednesday though it is unclear if Jerome will suit up in that contest.
